Counter Attack Chapter 189

Shuai has received two huge blows from Guo, so he went to Wu's to vent out his anger.

'I finally know why Shuo left for 6 years, if it were to be anyone he would've left too. Not just 6 years, 60 years is not even enough, he should never come back forever. You never saw how close they two were; if I say, Chi wasn't mad about Shuo sleeping with someone else but rather Guo sleeping with Shuo.

Wu poured Shuai a glass of water.

'Come, don't be so worked up.'

Shuai gulped down the water, he felt better inside now.

Then he looked at Wu, he was acting as if none of this was his business, Shuai was complaining about everything over here, but Wu was really calm on the other side.

He nudged Wu and asked, 'Hey, aren't you frustrated too?'

'What for?' Wu simply replied, 'We two aren't even together anymore, he can sleep with whoever he likes, that's his freedom. You're different, you're on honeymoon with Guo, of course you'll get mad when you see someone disrupting you two.'

'What honeymoon?' Shuai immediately objected, 'Not when there's a Chi, you didn't see his smugly face, all he says is: Guo is mine, don't continue coming here, just go...'

As he continued talking, Shuai eventually stopped. Because he realized Wu was staring at the form in his hands, he wasn't even listening. Maybe Wu was listening, but he as trying to avoid it, he didn't want to join in the conversation.

When the voice beside him stopped, Wu asked, 'Why did you stop?'

'Nothing, don't feel like continuing anymore,' Shuai said.

Wu put down the form and explained to Shuai, 'I was listening, I just need to examine this form quickly, I'll need to hand this to the manufacturing department later.'

Wu was pretending to study the form, but Shuai could tell his gaze was even fixed or focused on the form.

'Wu, why not let Guo talk to Chi? Just get back together. I was just fooling with you, there isn't anything between them two, Chi only likes you. That day Guo even went to find a woman for Chi, he kicked her out within 5 minutes, he said that the woman's voice is annoying, I feel like he's just finding an excuse, he just wants to...'

Wu interrupted Shuai and changed up the topic.

'You say, why did Yue Yue disappear after she met me one time?'

Shuai's eyes were bulging, 'Don't tell me you're getting back with her?'

'What are you talking?' Wu said, 'I'm just confused, where did she go after meeting me several times? I've been trying to dig her out through my connections for the past few days, I've never gotten any news back.'

'I bet she's afraid,' Shuai commented, 'She appeared now for one purpose - to destroy. In simpler words, she has been used, or she ganged up with someone else.'

'I know what you're saying,' Wu was still frowning, 'But everything has already ended, why is she still hiding?'

'Isn't it obvious? She's clearly afraid of Chi taking revenge.'

Wu then added, 'But where can she hide from? I'm not just lifting up the carpet, I'm really using up all my resources.'

Shuai assumed, 'Maybe someone was scared she might leak any information so he hid her, and this guy isn't any simpleton.'

'Who?' Wu asked.

'Are you asking an obvious question?' Shuai said, 'Who else other than Shuo?'

'Shuo is leaving soon, why is he hiding her?'

Shuai said, 'How do you know he doesn't have the last card? Last time he said he's going back too, suddenly he was admitted into the hospital, it has been over 6 months now, he's still not leaving?'

Wu had nothing to say.

Right after Shuai left, Wu went to check on Jealous.

Jealous was hibernating, it was lying in the glass box, Wu was afraid someone might find out Jealous's presence so he hid the glass box in a cardboard box and used some other things to cover it up.

He would break apart the fort and check on it occasionally, after seeing Jealous was sleeping soundly in there, he then went ahead to do his work.

Today he went to check on it again, but he was shocked.

The cardboard box was empty!

Wu ran out frantically, he was running all over the office looking for the janitor.

His secretary asked, 'Mr. Wu, what's wrong?'

'Did you go into my office? Did you touch that box?'

No, when I went in this morning, I just placed a document on your desk, I didn't touch anything else.'

Wu was sweating all over.

Lin walked over as well, after understanding the situation, he said, 'The janitor went in to clean your office, I think I saw her taking a huge cardboard box out, she even groaned that it was heavy, then I think she dumped all the contents out.'

Wu's expression was horrible.

The secretary asked, 'Is there any important documents in it? That janitor should've asked before throwing it out...'

Before she could finish, Wu ran outside.

He came to the rubbish bin, luckily, the rubbish hasn't been cleared away yet, if it has been cleared he would need to go to the rubbish dump to find his brother, how tiring it must be!

He dived straight into the dump and searched for his brother.

Lin went to the storeroom and found a shovel, by the time he got to the bin he was shocked. Wu normally looked so formal and composed, now his whole body is in the rubbish bin, rummaging through the pile of garbage like a madman.

'Mr. Wu, I've got the shovel, come out please, it's so dirty in there!'

Wu waved his hand, 'Don't, your shovel is too hard, it would be bad if you broke my glass box.' After that, he continued finding it.

Lin's nostrils were filled with the stench of the rubbish, he wasn't sure how precious that item was that made Wu sacrifice like this.

Finally, Wu cried out of joy.

'Found it, found it...'

Then, he hugged the glass box in his arms like a baby, he didn't even care to wipe away the food scraps that were sticking onto the box, he hurriedly opened the box.

Luckily there were some plants in there, if not if he was a little later, Jealous might suffocate in there.

After confirming that Jealous was still breathing, Wu's hanging heart finally was at ease.

When the weather got colder, Wu's mother's visit to the hospital has become more frequent.

She used to go to the hospital once every 2 or 3 weeks, she would then stay in the hospital for a day or two, but now she went there every 2 or 3 days and she would stay for a week for each visit then her condition would stabilize.

Plus, Wu's mother's memory has gotten worse, till the point where she couldn't even recognize Wu.

Sometimes he saw his mother was groaning in pain on the hospital bed, Wu hoped that she would soon be freed from the pain, but once he thought about her leaving this world, he felt like he wouldn't have any family left, there's nothing holding him back in this world anymore, he was really afraid of this thought.

He has been staying in the hospital for days now, listening to Wu's mother's murmuring, he has no idea what she was talking about.

It was Saturday, Chi didn't go to Guo's club and hang around, but rather he drove to the hospital.

He knew he would meet 'the person he will never meet again', but Chi still came, because he has been counting and he knew that her days were numbered, if he doesn't come sooner he might not have the chance anymore.

He didn't bring anything, he didn't go into the ward either, he just stood at the window and looked inside.

The woman was lying on the bed, she was left with nothing else but bones.

He still remembered the first time he went to Wu's house for dinner, the bright and cheerful mother. But just within 2 years time, she has become less than a human. He, as an outside, was feeling excruciating inside, it was incomparable to her family who stayed by her side.

Wu's mother's stagnant gaze looked out at the window to Chi, stared for a while, suddenly her eyes regained some life. She rose her bony arm, pointed at Chi with her trembling hand.

Her mouth was murmuring, looked like she wanted to say something.

Chi felt as if his heart was being torn into pieces.

He knew, Wu's mother recognized him.

If it wasn't for the familiar footsteps coming from the bathroom in the corridor, Chi would've definitely gone in and seen her.

By the time Wu made his way to the door, Chi has already left.

He turned his head towards the staircase exit, what he saw was a blurry shadow.

But the smell of Chi lingered at the door, making Wu's heart clenched.

Soon, Wu's mother finally discharged.

After reaching home, her mood was greatly improved, her back was even straight when she walked, her eyes were gleaming as well. The happiest part about it was Wu's mother finally remembered her son, she even called out his name several times.

'Let me cook a meal for you,' she said.

Wu said, 'You just got better, don't move around too much.'

'I just feel super energized, I have a lot of energy, I would feel uncomfortable if I don't do something.'

Wu could only let her be.

In the evening, the two had a scrumptious dinner.

Wu's mother asked, 'When are you marrying?'

Wu smiled, 'Soon.'

After hearing this, she immediately downed another bowl of rice.

Before sleeping, she held Wu's hands and asked, 'I haven't seen Chi for 47 days already, is he really busy?'

At this moment, Wu really thought that his mom has fully recovered, she even remembered how long Chi hasn't visited.

'Yeah, quite busy.'

She hummed in response, she didn't say anything much and soon fell asleep.

In the middle of the night, Wu woke up, he reached his hands into his mom's blanket, it was cold.

At that point, how he wished that this was just one of his horrible nightmares.

But, he can never go back to sleep again.

He sat right up and folded her blanket neatly.

Then, he went down the bed and kowtowed three times.

'Mom, I'm sorry, I lied to you, I may not marry a wife anymore, please forgive me.'
