The next morning, when Wu saw Ling, he handed a jewelry box to her.

'Chi told me to give this to you.'

Ling was rather happy to receive it, but soon her lips pouted.

'There's not a single sincerity in this, why would he tell someone else to hand me my birthday gift? Can't he hand it to me personally?'

Wu looks embarrassed, 'I think...he might be feeling awkward and shy. You think I've been the messenger for the both of you for the past few days, there's still a think piece of paper in between you two, you should give Chi to redeem himself?'

Ling quickly got Wu's hinting, then agreed quickly, 'I'm holding a birthday party tonight, this is a really good chance, you must invite Chi to come.'

Wu rubbed his temples, 'It isn't that good for me to inform him this right?'

Ling thought for a second, 'Right, I'll go to his office, I'll tell him myself.'

Wu thought to himself: if Chi rejected the offer that means he doesn't even have a single interest in Ling, by then Wu will do anything to convince Chi to go to the party, he won't hold any grudges on Chi after everything has been sorted.

But if Chi agreed to go, no matter if it's because of his feelings or because of his position as a superior, all of that means that Chi has Ling in his mind and this will cause disaster in the future if not properly dealt with now. Although it's a bit harsh to blame all those on Chi, for Wu who has found a secret weapon against Chi, this might be the one and only chance for Wu to punish Chi.

'Okay then, you should return this gift to Chi,' Ling said.

Wu was really grateful for Ling's cooperation, this wretch, she has learned a thing or two now.

'Right, if you're going to a birthday party, this gift wouldn't be sufficient for the occasion.'

Ling blushed, 'When you're giving this back to Chi, you must mention that it's not I don't like it, I don't want this at the moment. He should know when to give me this.'

Wu smiled, 'Don't worry, I will let him understand even if he doesn't get it.'

It's five in the afternoon, Wu got a phone call from Chi.

'I'm not eating dinner with you tonight.'

Wu's heart clenched and asked, 'Where are you going?'

'A friend's birthday party.'

After hearing this, Wu didn't ask any further, he just hung up. Even though this is the ideal result, he doesn't even need to waste his energy, he also got the 'evidence' he wanted. But after knowing Chi agreed to that so quickly, Wu felt a little-frustrated inside.

Even so, no matter how frustrated he's feeling, he must hang on as it is already the last war.

When he thought about it, Wu immediately left the company and return home, set up everything in the master's bedroom. Then he quickly left for Ling's birthday party without any delay, he arrived at the hotel and parked his car at a corner, he rented a room at the hotel right opposite to the hotel, he took out a binocular and inspect every inch of movement at the hotel.

Around 7 o'clock, Ling's family and friends arrived at the hotel.

The only elders were Ling's parents, this makes Wu sighed in relief, if there're a lot of elders the scene might be a little embarrassing. The rest of the guests were Ling's best friends, colleagues, old school friends... there are not even 20 people in that room.

The following group who arrived is Chi and his colleagues, the most outstanding part about that group is, besides Chi's in there, the single ladies in Chi's department and the neighboring departments are here as well. The purpose is very clear-cut, Ling wants to announce her authority to let these' peasants' know their standing place, letting those who spread untrue rumors to shut up.

Wu could clearly see that Ling and her bunch of best friends were very excitedly chatting away at the side, even though Wu didn't hear what they're talking about but he could've guessed it accurately too.

'Chi? I think I've heard about this person before.'

'Yeah, he's quite popular here, I heard he really loves snakes, and he always has one with him.'

'Ah! No way? It's so creepy, I get goosebumps whenever I think of that. Ling, you're not afraid of it?'

Ling smiled it off, 'Whenever he meets me, he would always keep the snake in a cage, he won't let it scare me.'

'Wah, Ling, you're something, you can manage to get such a tough one in your hands?'

Ling pouted, 'What? Someone hasn't even admitted it yet, who knows if I'm having one-sided thoughts?'

'What! I thought you said you got a ring from him?'

After this has been revealed, Ling's hand has been snatched over by 10 over people to have a look, then immediately created a commotion, 'Where? Where? I want to see it!'

Ling took a long time before getting her hand back, then said with a blush, 'What are you guys so excited about? He hasn't give me yet!'

Then came a wave of boo.

Ling immediately added, 'But he will give me soon.'

'Wow, will he propose to you in front of us?'

Then another wave of commotion rose.

'Just reveal something, how many karats is that? What kind of design is it?'

Ling recalled, 'It's not diamond, it looks like emerald, there's a snake patterned design around it and my name is carved behind the ring. I can't remember anyway, won't you guys know after he reveals it?'

Just as she said that Chi and his two colleagues walked in.

'Sound silencer' should be the perfect word to describe Chi's charisma, the second he stepped into the ballroom, every second after that were all silent. Almost everyone that saw him will become quiet subconsciously, rather than saying how good looking Chi looks, it's more like he has some kind of aura that makes people speechless.

Chi walked towards Chief Li and greeted him politely, then he found himself a spot and smoked away quietly.

Chi came into Wu's field of sight, he couldn't help but to feel tense, Wu was different from the rest of the people, he was observing Chi from a different perspective. Fuck, he even changed a set of clothes! Look at you acting all cool! You don't even place your cigarette in between your fingers when you smoke, you're really trying to look all macho?

Even if Wu think like this, he didn't really move his eyes away from Chi either.

The crowdier the event, the more Chi stands out.

Chi casually turned his head towards the window, his chilling gaze met the set of binoculars.

Wu and Chi literally had a second of eye contact, Wu felt the chills on his spine and he quickly moved his head back from the binoculars.

After a while, when he then look back into the binoculars, Chi has already changed his position.

He smoothened his breathing out, it was just a coincidence.

Every guest has arrived, the birthday party has officially started.

Actually, it is just like all the other typical birthday bash, at most the dishes there were more classy, their way of celebrating it was more 'bougey'. Even Chief Li who always look ever so strict and serious actually showed his friendly side today, he even was requested by the crowd to sing the birthday song for his daughter, successfully portraying him as a father.

After 2 hours has passed, the bottles are also getting empty, the ambiance is getting intense as well.

No sure who started a chant, the rest of the crowd followed along.

'Confess, confess, confess...'

Because the dishes were served in buffet style, there are no specific seats for everyone, so some of the people looked over at Chi's direction, but this lead character was still picking his dishes like none of this is his business.

'Mr. Chi, stop escaping, where is your gift?'

'Yeah, where is Ling's ring?'

Ling tugged on her friends and said shyly, 'Stop it.'

'Faster, bring out the ring, we can't wait any longer.'

Chi was being surrounded by a crowd but his expression is still so calm, or should I say cold.

'What ring?'

'Are you acting dumb?' A rounded-face woman who was rather drunk said out loud, 'Our Ling has said to us, you even found the ring already, are you trying to let us search your body?'

After saying this, a group of ladies swarming forward but they were stopped by Chi's chilling gaze.

His attitude was rather cold hard.

'I don't know what ring you're talking about.'

If these words were from someone else's mouth, they might persist; in the end, they came out of Chi's mouth, it's unavoidable that the ambiance died down, there's no salvation.

Ling suddenly felt ever so embarrassed, what's happening?

Right at that time, a jewelry box has been passed around from the entrance, the people passing around were whispering, 'Pass this box down to Mr. Chi secretly, let him have a substitute for now, just say it's from him, we mustn't embarrass Ms. Li.'

The first few people who passed down the box were actually the people standing around Chief Li, they were acting all strangely and secretly so to not like Chief Li suspect anything.

Soon enough, the box has been delivered to the crowd, then it reached to the hands of the rounded-face woman, she was super drunk but she gave that box to Zhang who was drunker than she was, his voice was so loud that almost everyone near him could hear.

'Give this box to Mr. Chi secretly, just say that it's from him, don't embarrass Ling in public.'

Then immediately came a roar of laughter, some people who were standing further from him asked, 'What's that? Why is so secretive? Is it the ring from Chi?'

Wasted Zhang raised the box high up in the air, then he shouted, 'Who said that it's from Chi? Someone secretly passed down to me, they told me to give Chi and then let him give it to Ms. Li this is fucking fun hahaha....'

Ling's face immediately heated up, she wanted to explain herself but Chi's colleagues' laughter was louder than her.

Not sure who flipped open he jewelry box, then took out a ring out.

That ring then was immediately caused a ruckus among the crowd, those who knew about their diamonds and gold knew, at most, it only costs $100, but the design was really similar to what Ling has described.

'Isn't this glass? How is this emerald?'

'You see, there's really the snake patterns.'

'Look under it, look, it's Ling's name.'

'Ling, don't tell me this is the ring you have been talking about?"

Ling was so ashamed and angry, she hasn't started unleashing her anger yet but Zhang took the first move and said, 'How is it possible that our Chi bought such a cheap stuff? You guys are ridiculous, can't you guys pass down a real one even if you're trying to act, are you trying to degrade our Chi's image?'

Right then, the group of friends around Ling has begun to whisper among themselves.

'What's happening? Isn't the gift supposedly from Chi himself?'

'Look at his face, does he look like the face of someone who wants to gift? He said he doesn't even know about the ring.'

'Uh, it seems like Ling knows about it the most, don't tell me...'

'Shh, just act as if you didn't know, don't spout nonsense.'

Ling walked towards Chi and lashed out furiously without any control, 'Chi, what do you mean?'

Chi kept a straight face and asked back, 'What do YOU mean?'

'You knew exactly what you did!' Ling's tear flowed down in front of everyone, If you don't like me,  why did you accept the stuff I sent to you? I've never seen such a man before, fake!'

Chi took out two stacks full of money out of his wallet and placed it on the table, then said politely, 'I'll buy the ring, keep the change for the snacks, if it isn't enough I'll pay you someday later.'

Ling stomped her feet angrily, 'Chi, you're playing with me, you're a disgrace, I hate you!'

Chi ignored her then walked through the crowd with a cold expression, he didn't forget to bid Chief Li goodbye before he left.

Just right when everyone thought Chi has gotten trouble to himself, Chief Li grabbed Chi's arm and said apologetically, 'Chi! We have spoilt Ling too much, please don't take this too harsh on yourself.'

Mrs. Li was looking all sorry as well, she has been standing beside Chief Li all along. she has witnessed the people passing down the box all the while, they were all very ashamed that their daughter did something like this.

'Yeah, girls always want things to go along with their own will.'

Chi didn't say anything also, he just walked straight out of the ballroom.

Ling was crying and making a fuss, 'Dad, can't you see he's bullying me?'

Chief Li's expression has gone all green, 'I should teach you a lesson instead!'

'Dad, you think I'm being irrational now?' Ling asked.

'I also want to believe in my own daughter, but do you deserve that?' Now that he has touched on this topic he can't hold back anymore, 'There have been rumours of you following behind Chi all the time in the station, do you know how bad it reflects on our family? I have been keeping to myself, but you are getting more and more out of hand now...'

Ling suddenly went back to reality, she was really speechless at herself.

'I tell you now!' Chief Li warned Ling, 'From now on if you dare you step into the station again, I will punish you severely.'

Ling cried out, 'Don't worry, now I won't go anywhere you said not to, I won't go there even if you tell me to!'
