The search was still going and so was Zhou Qingfeng’s training….. Butcher was clearly not a good teacher, but he was indeed very experienced. He could come up with different counterattacks for every single movement and action in the war.

“Wars in the cities are the most brutal as the buildings block our view. There are a lot of hidden spots and the routes are all connected to each other. You wouldn’t know where the enemies would come out from, so you have to stay alert all the time.”

“Do you know about the aftermath of war? A normal soldier would get it within a year or two. However, in wars in the cities, a new soldier who survived for a month would have already experienced it.”

“An outstanding soldier shouldn’t leave the battlefield, because teammates are the most reliable. They would share their last piece of rotten bread with you and face the bullets with you. They would turn their backs and trust your cover. Do you know the pain of losing mates?”

As Butcher spoke non-stop, Zhou Qingfeng held his stomach and stood up once again. He was not paying any attention to that mad man. He had thought Katrina Riven was a crazy woman, but, when compared to Butcher, she was a totally gentle and friendly angel!

“Let’s go, time for lesson two - close combat. I hear gunshots, there’s crossfire nearby.”

Butcher carried Zhou Qingfeng up, “Close combat must be swift and violent. Every attack must be done in less than five seconds, the best would do it in two or three.”

“You’re very agile, you should be good at it. But remember, you have to know your enemies very well for close combat. Otherwise, don’t make the first move. If there was trouble, attacking violently would be a better choice than running.”

Butcher led Zhou Qingfeng and showed him the combat action of moving through the streets quickly. Butcher, the big guy, was as agile as a rabbit when he was serious.

Zhou Qingfeng followed Butcher. He turned around and saw Roma and his men still moving resources, “Wait, who would be covering for the search team if we leave?”

“Let the dog stay.”

Butcher bent and started running quickly with short steps. The distance of his steps was not far, but extremely fast.

Seeing Butcher arrive at the next block, Zhou Qingfeng said to DogMeat, “Keep your eyes on Roma. Don’t let them escape and don’t let other people interrupt them.”

The highly intelligent DogMeat went to do its job and Zhou Qingfeng followed Butcher. The ‘Naturally Gifted’ ability gave him the talent to imitate. It only took him a little while and Zhou Qingfeng was already good at it.

However, as Zhou Qingfeng and Butcher arrived, the sound of gunshots had stopped. Zhou Qingfeng saw a few dead bodies lying at a street corner. They were trying to escape but were shot in the back.

“Many of the dead bodies are untouched. The entire city of Manhattan will be a smelly, open cemetery in the matter of days,” Zhou Qingfeng whispered.

“Complain about the cemetery after you’ve been soaked in a smelly pool of dead people,” Butcher said happily. “Pay attention. Tell me what you see.”

Zhou Qingfeng started to be serious. He took a telescope and started to observe the situation. Their distance from the crossfire was around sixty meters. He could see many bullet holes on the walls of the building and dead bodies. He could not see anyone; he could only hear exclamations.

“Judging by the inconsistency of the bullet holes, their aiming skills are as bad as mine. Counting the amount of shell cases on the ground, there were around twelve to thirteen people on each side.”

“The defence is hiding in a jewelry shop, ohhhh…. it’s the world famous brand Tiffany and Co. It seems like they are losing.”

“The whole crossfire lasted less than five minutes and there’s no sentry. I’m guessing the attackers are the gangsters who were trying to rob the jewelry shop. They’re too excited because they won and they don’t even care about their way back.”

Zhou Qingfeng put the telescope down and looked at Butcher, who was beside him. Butcher smiled, tilted his head, and said, “Go and uphold justice! Young and hot-tempered boys like to do that.”

“You’re letting me go like this?”

“I will cover you.”

Zhou Qingfeng frowned and replaced the SCAR rifle in his hand with the Benelli M4 semi-automatic shotgun. He carried the shotgun and ran quickly towards the jewelry shop. Butcher was actually responsible, he followed Zhou Qingfeng with a PKM machine gun to cover his back.

After they ran about fifty meters, Zhou Qingfeng arrived at the dead bodies. Judging by their uniforms, they should be the workers from the jewelry shop. It seemed like they were trying to escape through the side door, but they were chased and killed. The way they died was extremely miserable.

The shop was on the other side of the corner. Zhou Qingfeng probed and took a glance with his rifle. The huge and wide shop was in a big mess. It seemed like the gangsters fired from different directions at the same time and the people in the shop did not have time to react.

The smell of blood from the dead bodies was disgusting and a woman was screaming in the shop. All these things were driving Zhou Qingfeng to take action. But, when he was ready to go, Butcher stopped him and asked, “What do you think is happening inside?”

“What else could it be? It was obviously the sounds of hitting, smashing, robbing, and raping! What you do expect the gangsters in New York to do?” Zhou Qingfeng curled his lips and said.

“Alright, let them use up their energy first,” Butcher, who was the one urging Zhou Qingfeng, now wanted him to wait instead. “Enjoy it, too.”

“You ba*tard!” Zhou Qingfeng realized why Butcher had asked him to come. It was not to uphold justice. It was for him to particularly feel the hatred for and watch the sins of the perpetrators and to feel the pain and helplessness of the victims.

“Am I just going to stay here and watch?”

“Sometimes, you might be able to help but sometimes, you may not. If you lose your mind every time you see someone struggling, you’ll die very soon.”

Butcher shrugged his shoulders and continued, “When you’re facing an act of violence, if your heart rate is at normal speed, you’re not sweating, your mouth isn’t dry, and there’s no anger or feeling of injustice in your heart, then you can save them.”

Zhou Qingfeng thought that it was too difficult. He could attack the enemy without fear and even ignore flying bullets to aim at their brains, but he could not stay calm when he heard the wretched screams.

Zhou Qingfeng turned around and glared at Butcher’s ugly face. He tried very hard to suppress his anger and to not kill him. He growled at Butcher, “Don’t you think it’s too cruel? Listen to that, someone is dying. We’re eventually going to save them, why don’t we move earlier?”

Butcher was still very calm and was not going to move. He only shrugged his shoulders as he listened to Zhou Qingfeng.

Zhou Qingfeng held on for two to three minutes, but he could not hold on any longer. He grabbed his shotgun and ran towards the direction of jewelry shop. Butcher sighed and mumbled, “Ugh… this kid reminds me of me when I was young. We try to stay cool but the sense of justice in our hearts was too strong!”
