Chapter 119        David Lawrence Joins the Team

David Lawrence was speechless. He could only sigh after what Zhou Qingfeng had said to him. He has been searching for his wife and daughter for ten days without sleep and the eagerness to reunite with his family was the only motivation to keep him going. However, his plan did not seem to be very effective. He was fortunate enough to post a search notice on the ‘Cataclysm Journal’, or else he might still be looking for his daughter at the moment.

“Victor, I know what you mean. I’ve read the news from the ‘Cataclysm Journal’ and found out that you’ve founded an ‘Armed Nun Society’. Rumor has it that you’ve gotten recognition from the church and are collaborating with them in order to provide shelter for the helpless people. I believe that you must sincerely be trying to restore the order in society.” David Lawrence seemed to be very impressed by Zhou Qingfeng.

Zhou Qingfeng, however, felt extremely awkward as he thought, Why the hell does everyone mention the ‘Armed Nun Society’ when they meet me? I don’t even know what the hell that organization is. Furthermore, I didn’t even establish it. I’ll ask for an explanation from Lena Fox when I have time to return to the clubhouse.

“Alright then, I’ll join your society. But, I demand the power to act independently. I’ll need to leave immediately if there’s any news about my wife, Rachel.” David Lawrence gave out his word solemnly.

However, Zhou Qingfeng was dumbfounded once again. He thought to himself, Wait a minute, I’ve never asked for you to join us! In fact, I don’t even want to have any relation with you. Why the hell did you want to join my team? Who’ll be the leader of the team then? You’re the protagonist and there’s no way I can make you obey me.

On the contrary, Katrina was greatly cheered by David Lawrence’s arrival as she welcomed him with great passion. She even praised her crush for being talented in commanding the subordinates and indicated that she was willing to obey his command.

“I knew it! She’s going to ditch me.” Zhou Qingfeng felt that he had been betrayed by Katrina. He also felt like he had been asking for trouble as he should not have told David Lawrence his location in the first place.

When he recalled what David Lawrence had said, “Act independently”, “Any news about my wife”, “I’ll need to leave immediately”, Zhou Qingfeng had a feeling that he was transmigrating once again - it felt exactly the same when Chao Chao offered shelter to Guan Yu.

However, the problem was that Chao Chao admired Guan Yu and that was why he tried his best to persuade Guan Yu to join his side, while Zhou Qingfeng did not admire David Lawrence at all. He was only thinking about how to ask him to leave. He felt that everything would be fine as long as he was not bringing Katrina with him as the fierce lady was actually extremely useful, especially when it came to fighting the enemies.

Therefore, Zhou Qingfeng ordered Katrina to arrange accommodation for David Lawrence and to introduce the current situation of Kenny Street and the current plan of the team to him in the meantime.

David Lawrence was confused when he heard that Zhou Qingfeng was planning to occupy the NYPD headquarters just to obtain various equipment and vehicles from it. “I know that the United States Army Camp is far away, but why don't you go to the National Guard Camp of Staten Island? Or even the United States Coast Guard Camp?

Zhou Qingfeng pouted and said, “I’m not even familiar with the United States, let alone knowing where the National Guard of the United States Camp is. Moreover, the NYPD headquarters of Manhattan was nearest to me when the cataclysm happened, and thus I chose the most convenient spot to start my search. I never thought that there would be so many people trying to occupy the NYPD headquarters too.”

David Lawrence stood in the command post as he opened up the map and studied it carefully. He used to serve in the U.S. Army's 75th Ranger Regiment, therefore his understanding about the U.S. Army far exceeded that of anyone else’s.

David Lawrence went silent for a moment before he said, “Perhaps, you were right about not going to Staten Island. The island is too far away from us. Furthermore, Staten Island had been completely closed down after the cataclysm and I suspect that there might be someone already building a team on the island. You will be dead for sure if you were to head over there alone.”

“I think it’s really a good idea for you guys to sneak into the NYPD headquarters from the underground. However, the interference from the outside world might interrupt your operation at any time. So, I think it’s better for us to start exerting pressure on Zetas, the largest gang in Mexico at the moment.”

David Lawrence stroke his beard as he thought about the plan. Zhou Qingfeng then immediately verbalized his thoughts, “Actually, I’m planning to first destroy the Brooklyn Bridge in order to cut off Zetas’ supplies. Otherwise, if we just let them flood into Manhattan, we’re not going to be able to deal with them even if we were to fight with our lives.”

“But, the bridge is too sturdy. There’s no way we can destroy it so easily. Perhaps, we can approach the situation by killing Los Zetas first.”

It was an idea from David Lawrence, “These sort of gangs usually lose themselves when their leader is killed. Killing Los Zetas would also buy us some time to restore order in society.”

Zhou Qingfeng, however, slightly disagreed with David Lawrence. He felt that killing their leader was indeed a fun thing to do, but, it would pose too great of a risk to attempt it without any reinforcements.

In contrast, the plan of destroying a bridge seemed to be much more feasible. Brooklyn Bridge was indeed sturdy, but in the absence of the maintenance personnel, destroying merely a few meters of the bridge would be sufficient enough to stop the thugs from flooding in. It would then be easier to deal with Zetas.

“We don’t even know where the hell Los Zetas is, not to mention what kind of bodyguards he has with him. Furthermore, we’ll need a lot of time to figure out how to attack them and most importantly, how to retreat. What’s worse is that we might not have any time for any of these scenarios.” Zhou Qingfeng tried to persuade him.

However, Katrina interrupted their conversation and said, “Don’t worry about scouting for information. All we need to do is to catch a few captives among them and interrogate them. Leave that to me.”

“Then, let’s get started,” David Lawrence seemed very anxious.

However, Katrina did not agree with him this time around, “David, you must first take a good rest. Come with me, I’ve prepared a room for you.”

In desperation, David Lawrence too knew that he had been searching for his daughter for ten days without sleep and his body was already on the verge of collapse. He was finally relieved when he found out that his daughter was safe. After several sighs, he decided to follow Katrina and walked away from them.

Katrina arranged for her crush to live beside her room. She even tried to follow him when they arrived at the entrance of his room, “David, perhaps I can stay with you for a little bit longer.”

However, David Lawrence shook his head, “Katrina, you’re a good girl. You should consider other guys. My heart only belongs to my wife……”

“Why can’t you just accept me? Do you know how easy it is to kill a person now?" Katrina Riven said to him, heartbroken. "Maybe your wife is already..."

“No!” David Lawrence who was calm in the first place instantly roared like a tiger, “My wife will not be dead. I will definitely find her one day and I’ll never give up until I do.”

Bang… David Lawrence shut the door and Katrina was left alone, crying outside his door. It seemed that even the toughest of ladies bursts into tears.

No one had seen the scene of Katrina crying. Meanwhile, Zhou Qingfeng returned to his mobile command vehicle, only to find out that Jenny hasn’t slept yet. “Baby, it’s time for you to rest.”

Jenny was now assisting Katrina in managing the entire neighborhood as her management skills were actually much stronger than Katrina, who only knew how to fight. At that instant, she was holding a laptop in her hand. She touched a few buttons and projected a virtual screen on a wall.

“Victor, this is our list of supplies. There’s something serious that needs your attention right now.” Jenny looked at Zhou Qingfeng with a serious face. It seemed like the problem had to be solved as soon as possible, or else the consequences would be terrible.

“We’ve run out of food?”

“No, we’re still adequate in terms of food.”

“Then, it must be that we’ve run out of either drinking water or medication.”

“We’re still sufficient there too. Although we do lack medication, we don’t have any patients at the moment.”

“So, what’s the thing that needs my attention then?”

“We’ve run out of toilet paper.”

“What?”

“Yes, we’ve completely run out of toilet paper. You can only use a tree branch to wipe your ass if you were to use the toilet right now.”
