Chapter 42        Pestered

New York’s Society of Divine Word was the top private club in the United States.

It was a private club house with over one hundred and fifty years of history, and was mainly used for confidential gatherings. Initially, a few refugees from the South formed the club in an attempt to settle down after the American Civil War. However, as the years passed, it gradually became a place for low-key engagements for the American upper class.

Influence was the one and only condition for joining the Society of Divine Word. One should hence keep their distance from the society if they lack influence or was just a parvenu, as the Society of Divine Word will only accept the best among the best from the upper class.

Similarly, the club will stop providing you services if you were no longer a member of the upper class.

Zhou Qingfeng was allowed to enter the 100-year old building because of Lena Fox’s identity from the social club. However, their situation became awkward as Lena Fox was no longer the CEO of Fox Foundation.

“Listen up, we’re currently in a bit of a trouble. Mr Patrick won’t drive us out of the club, but he also won’t stop the police from reaching us. However, I still have a lot personal savings, so don’t be depressed. My savings will be more than enough for both of us to abscond overseas. Let’s move on.”

The silver-haired old man’s apologetic expression matched Lena Fox’s anxious one as he bowed and said, “Mr Hugo, I’m afraid that I’m no longer capable of stopping the US judiciary from investigating Miss Fox, and… the warrant issued to arrest you.”

Meanwhile, in the spacious luxury suite, Zhou Qingfeng placed both his guns into his backpack. He stuck a USP45 handgun as well as three magazines in his waistband. Ever since his physical fitness soared, his manipulation ability of large-caliber pistols has increased as well.

“You look inelegant when you’re anxious.” Zhou Qingfeng looked smart after he put on his combat suit. He slung his weapons backpack over his shoulder as he smiled. “Since you’ve lost the authorization on the foundation, what’s your next plan?”

Lena Fox smiled as she mocked herself, “That’s right. The current me who has lost the authorization does not look elegant, but I won’t give up this easily.

“I’ve requested my lawyer to prepare for a lawsuit. Mr Patrick will also provide me with a private jet so that I can take a short break at any country on the Caribbean. However, I currently lack a security guard. Thus, I hope that you’ll….”

“I will not follow you to the Caribbean Sea.” Zhou Qingfeng rejected Lena Fox’s request as he said, “I still need to get my hands on that robotic dog.”

“Why do you still need to acquire that robotic dog?” Lena Fox was convinced that she can persuade Zhou Qingfeng to follow her, as he was one of the few whom she can trust. However, she did not understand Zhou Qingfeng’s decision.

“Do you know that the entire NYPD had sworn to capture you? Not only did you humiliate them, you also shot their chief officer to death in public.

“You’ve killed Chief Bratten on the spot in front of the media around the world, and a clear shot of your shooting scene was taken by them. And so, there’s no way you can get rid of the charge.

“Do you want me turn on the news channel for you? You’ve caused a high degree of hatred from the common society. There’s even someone who compared the death of Chief Bratten to the assassination of President Kennedy. The citizens from the entire New York City are denouncing your crime, and the people around the world are astonished by your craziness.”

Tsk…. It’s his own fault for acting dumb. I wouldn’t have shot him if he wasn’t trying to escape. A few hours later, people around the globe will no longer have the energy to complain anyway. They’ll be busy worrying about their survival instead.

Zhao Qingfeng complained inwardly as he rejected Lena Fox. He lost the ability to control the club through Lena Fox as she was now only a fallen angel.

“Alright then, I know that the police are on their way. I also know that they hate me extremely, so I have to leave now.” Zhou Qingfeng shook hands with Lena Fox who was already in a sluggish state. “It was my pleasure to meet the gorgeous and elegant Lena Fox. Let us bid our farewells for now. Best of luck!”

Zhou Qingfeng turned around as he left confidently. On the other hand, Lena Fox stood in place as she stared at him. After watching him walk away, the lady shouted at him, “Are you sure that you’re not following me to the Caribbean Sea? I can pay you ten million U.S. dollars.”

“I’m not going.”

“Fine, it looks like you don’t even care about the money. There must be a reason for you to go this far. So, I’ve decided to follow you.”

What? Can you say that again!?

Lena Fox followed tightly on his heels. She eagerly walked toward him as if she was a lost kid that found her manny.

Mr Patrick, who stood by the side, was flabbergasted. The silver-haired old man could not help reminding her, “Miss Fox, you’re running out of time since the police might appear anytime soon. If you don’t leave now, you won’t have the chance to do so later.”

However, Lena Fox stared at Zhou Qingfeng as she said with confidence, “I believe in my decision, but I believe even more in my instincts. Mr Hugo is a smart man and there’s no way he’ll put himself in danger.”

I hate smart women!

Zhou Qingfeng pouted and said, “How can you determine if I’ll take you with me? I’m a murder suspect. You’ve seen me killing a great chief officer with ease. It’s even possible for me to have a fetish for torturing pretty ladies.”

“Really? So be it!” Lena Fox did not seem to be frightened, not even rejecting Zhou Qingfeng. Instead, she straightened her back to make her bust stand out and walked a few centimeters closer toward Zhou Qingfeng. “If you really do think it’s necessary and the time allows it, then I wouldn’t really mind.”

A female gangster is extremely terrifying, but what’s even worse is a civilized, smart yet shameless lady!

Lena Fox was not a slut. She was elegant, black-haired, around one point six meters in height, and had at most C-cup-sized breasts. It was in fact unappealing, at least in the eyes of Zhou Qingfeng who preferred busty Westerners.

Hmmm…. Miss Fox is only a little bit lacking in attractiveness. She’s still very charming if she tries to stay elegant.

In that instance, Zhou Qingfeng was too lazy to bother with such niceties, as he sighed, “Whatever then!”

Therefore, Zhou Qingfeng brought Lena Fox along as they prepared to leave the Society of Divine Word under the consternation of Mr Patrick. However, they saw NYPD officers camping outside of the building the moment they reached the exit.

“Look, it’s the murder suspect who killed our chief officer.” There was an observant cop who immediately recognized Zhou Qingfeng. He was standing behind the glass door at that moment.

Dhak dhak dhak…. Without saying anything, Zhou Qingfeng shot the cops through the glass door. He then dragged Lena Fox away from the exit after he emptied a magazine. “Let’s hope the sewer of this building will be clean.”

Lena Fox immediately shouted, “Sewer? No way…. I refuse to escape in such an inelegant way.”
