Chapter 142        Bad News

Zhou Qingfeng immediately began his imagination. Zhou Qingfeng put Lena Fox down, and he was shocked to see that there was an angry little loli whom he had never seen before standing beside him. The loli wore a floral dress and had her hair tied up in pigtails. She scolded him with her arms akimbo.

Lena Fox too punched Zhou Qingfeng’s chest. It seemed that she felt worried about her elegant image being destroyed in public.

“Hi, Victor.” Jenny Braun appeared from behind as well. She walked toward him and greeted him with a smile. She was a lover whom he already had sex with plenty of times, and her full figure was even more attractive than Lena Fox’s. Zhou Qingfeng too threw himself toward her and gave her a big bear hug.

“Victor Hugo, you’re a big bad guy. Put my mom down now!” The crisp voice was heard once again. The angry little loli stared at him, and it seemed that she was much angrier this time around. She took a step forward, grabbed Zhou Qingfeng’s thigh, and took a big bite of it.

However, the little loli bit the wrong part as she accidentally took a bite of Zhou Qingfeng’s holster, which was strapped on his thigh. She quickly burst into tears, then turned around and hugged her mother to ask for comfort.

Jenny initially wanted to catch up with Zhou Qingfeng, but for now, she could only whisper in his ears, “You’re not allowed to find other women tonight. Come to me instead.” She then tried to comfort the loli after she finished talking.

“So that’s Anna, Jenny’s daughter?” asked Zhou Qingfeng.

“Yes, she’s a good little girl,” Lena Fox replied to him with joy, but she then instantly changed her facial expression when she murmured to Zhou Qingfeng, “You’re not allowed to smash her, she’s only eight years old.”

“Come on, am I really just a guy with no shame in your eyes? Do you really think that I’ll lay my evil hands on such a cute little loli? You’re humiliating me!” Zhou Qingfeng expressed his anger.

“There are just too many shameless people these days.” Lena lifted her head slightly as she spoke to him in a mixture of warning and jest, “It’s all right if you just stretched your hand, as long as you’re not stretching your third leg. Otherwise… hehe!”

“I feel that you’re just overthinking.” Zhou Qingfeng turned his head around and looked at the women who were blocking the main entrance of the clubhouse. He asked in confusion, “Where did you get these women from?”

“They’re members of our Armed Nun Society.”

“I’ve always wanted to ask you about the ‘Armed Nun Society’. What is it?”

“Oh, it’s quite complicated for me to explain it to you lengthily. In short, I wish to form a cohesive society. However, the cost of forming a new society is simply too high, and we can’t afford it. That’s why I’ve thought of collaborating with the few churches around us.

“I’m responsible for building a neighborhood, and anyone can join our neighborhood to receive protection by paying some fees. I set the laws and am responsible for adjudication and law enforcement. We can provide security guarantees, job opportunities, and medical services for the communities. We also sell a variety of daily supplies and allow the communities to run in an orderly manner.

“The society that runs this community is called the ‘Armed Nun Society’. As for why it’s called ‘Nun Society’, it’s mainly because we wanted to project some very strong religious symbolism here. Many nuns in the church are helping me manage this society. The word ‘Armed’ appears to be very powerful, and thus, I specifically added it.”

After he finished listening to Lena Fox’s explanation, Zhou Qingfeng looked at the thousands of women beside her. He was impressed by Miss Fox’s intelligence. She rebuilt a society in the simplest and most effective way, and was exercising the responsibilities of the government. This was the proper way to build a country.

“So are we now considered a tribe which anyone can join?” asked Zhou Qingfeng.

“You’re right. We’re exactly a tribe that is open to the public. Due to the security guarantees and the opportunities to make a living, many people come to us. I initially even planned to establish a bank and provide loans to the outside world, but there are some issues in the collateralization. However, we still have quite a management in our pawnbroker and safe deposit box business.

“Our society is not some place where anyone can actually enter though. For example, armed personnels are not allowed to enter our clubhouse. Manhattan also had a large number of penniless refugees in the past two days, and I’ve rejected them from joining our society. Anyone who dares to join our society by force will be fed to the dogs.”

Lena Fox even purposely blew a special whistle for DogMeat, and the stupid dog immediately wagged his tail at Miss Fox. DogMeat was now infamous in the neighborhood, and so no one dared to break into the clubhouse anymore.

All of the people that got bitten by DogMeat had died horribly. The villains who scampered around may not be afraid of their own kind, but that will definitely not be the case if they were to face a robotic dog. Therefore, the infamous DogMeat had become the greatest security guarantee for the Armed Nun Society.

“All right then, it seems like we’re living pretty well.” Zhou Qingfeng felt that their current situation was pretty good. “But still I don’t understand…. Why are there so many women in our clubhouse?”

Lena Fox explained, “Because most of the people who seek protection are women. Furthermore, they usually don’t have the necessary skills to survive in the outside world, so coming to us was their only choice to make a living.”

“But do we really have that much job opportunities for them?” Zhou Qingfeng was still very skeptical.

Lena Fox suddenly felt embarrassed as she lowered down her voice and said, “Do you know that there’s an ancient job which doesn’t require any capital or skills? For helpless women, this is their only choice in order to survive.”

They’re willing to let those scavengers do whatever they like, as long as they received a tin of canned food."

"Well, now the world is already in a state of collapse. I guess I just can’t bother with these things anymore." Zhou Qingfeng felt that their situation was not that bad as well. At least, they all had the ability to live on their own, and did not need him to worry about them.

However, although one might not have anxious thoughts for the future, he would always have trouble dogging his heels. Lena Fox then tried to get near Zhou Qingfeng. “Actually, we’re in quite a bit of a predicament at the moment.”

“What’s the matter?”

“Have you heard of ‘Brotherhood of Steel’ before?”

“No, but the name of it sure doesn’t sound like a charity society.”

“Recently, some of the guys who look like soldiers are moving around. As far as I know, their presence can be seen not only in Manhattan, but also in Queens and Brooklyn. They are very strong, well-equipped, well-trained, and I feel that they are a group of war veterans.

“I’ve talked to these people before. They said that their organization is extremely powerful. They have tanks, armored vehicles, armed helicopters, and regular military forces. Therefore, we’re really weak in contrast.

“It seems like the ‘Brotherhood of Steel’ wants to rule over the entire New York City. They were doing a thorough investigation and conducting intelligence gathering. I’m not very comfortable with this type of planned, step-by-step action. Also, they’re very unfriendly to the smaller organizations, like ours.”

Lena Fox looked worried, and it seemed that she had put up her guard against the ‘Brotherhood of Steel’. "There are two more organizations that we need to be wary of. One of them is called ‘Skull and Bones’, an association made up of criminals from several prisons in New York.

“After the prison guards disappeared, ‘Skull and Bones’ has occupied a prison and recruited a lot of manpower. They have control over several paths that link New York to the outside world. As a result, they have easy access to daily supplies. Now, the black market trade in New York is all under their control.

“Then there’s another one called ‘The Enclave’, and they’re even more mysterious. Their activities in New York are extremely low-key, but this does not prevent them from showing their ambition of occupying New York. However, there’s too little we know about them. I suspect that the organization’s base is not even in New York.

“Now that the cataclysm has occurred for more than half a month, people with genuine ambition will not show up in a hurry. They’ll only gather their strength in silence and wait for the chance to take control of the overall situation.

“Despite the fact that there are thousands of small organizations and small groups in New York, they’re too weak to resist those truly powerful groups. As for us, the Armed Nun Society is one of those small organizations.”
