Chapter 51        Are You the Terminator?

In the mobile command vehicle, Lena Fox sat beside Zhou Qingfeng, confusion on her face as she looked him over.

“Victor Hugo, I can sense that you’re special,” Lena Fox said with confidence. She picked up her phone, pointed at a news article and said, “Those reporters had investigated your background and it was far different from your current ability.”

Zhou Qingfeng took a glance at the image and thought, It’s just the initial phase of the cataclysm, the situation is still under control, and the smart communication network is still running in normal condition. On the other hand, the speed of social disorder is unbelievably fast; all sorts of robbery or criminal cases will be happening after two or three days.

Lena Fox continued to read his record out as he did not respond. The keywords of his record were simply ‘eighteen years old’, ’uneducated’, ’no criminal record’ and ‘relies on the social welfare program’.

“It’s impossible for an ordinary person to turn into an outstanding fighter, but you survived despite being surrounded by a team of New York special forces, it’s a miracle! I’m sure there’s a special reason behind it.”

Lena Fox put her impassive face in front of Zhou Qingfeng and said, “You always kept your distance from me. You appeared annoyed even when I was the one who insisted on following you. My beauty, wisdom and status have always been attractive to men, but you’re not interested at all.

“Your words after seeing me just now have however cleared all my questions. You asked, ‘Why didn’t you disappear?’ Obviously, I’m meant to disappear in your eyes.

“Did you know what my reaction was when the police suddenly disappeared? I freaked out and couldn’t speak. My body was shaking and I was even trying to touch where the police used to be. I thought something was wrong with my eyes.

“At the end I realized it wasn’t my problem; it’s this world’s. The reporters were shocked too; they screamed in the name of Jesus, cried, then ran away. It’s like the end of the world to them.

“However, you’re the only person I saw who acted normal, if a bit weird at the same time. You weren’t scared at all. Instead, you seemed very excited. From far away, I saw you run out from the memorial and around this car happily. It would be an extremely terrifying situation for other people, but for you, everything was happening within your expectations.

“And even now you still wanna find that robotic dog. Aren’t you too obsessed with it? You rejected my suggestion to fly to the Caribbean Sea, rejected escaping from New York. You took a huge risk to stay, as if you were waiting for the police to disappear.

“Are you aware that you nearly died from the police attack? Even if you were lucky enough to survive it, you were still severely injured. Despite that, you remain obsessed with the dog. It’s very important to you, isn’t it?

“In fact, you already knew that the police will disappear, am I right? Hey… stop acting dumb! We’re partners now, you must tell me the truth.”

Zhou Qingfeng shrugged his shoulders and smiled in response to Miss Fox’s series of questions. There was only one phrase in his mind: ‘A smart woman is truly terrifying.’

Looking at Zhou Qingfeng who kept on ignoring her, Lena Fox became so mad, she growled angrily under her breath, “Bastard.”

However, Miss Fox would not give up that easily. She knew that she would not get the answer from Zhou Qingfeng, so she tried to contact other people.

Lena Fox called 911 and received no response. Then, she called the media. Yet all the media phone lines were busy; she could not make any call. Fortunately, the news spread very quickly through the Internet, and one thing was confirmed—the police have all disappeared.

The media immediately contacted the government, and after just a few minutes, the latest news popped out—all of the government officials have also disappeared. There were even people who showed the empty government building through live broadcasting.

“The government and the police have all disappeared. Who else?” Lena Fox took a glance at Zhou Qingfeng. She even tried to call the uncle who planned to murder her, but the phone call did not get through. After that, she tried to call the authorities within her company. Similarly, there was no response.

She called almost all of the businessmen she knew. At the end, she sighed and said, “Seems like the people from the company have all disappeared. That’s why you thought I should’ve disappeared, too; because I was the CEO of the Fox Foundation.”

Zhou Qingfeng was amazed by the ability of the woman beside him; she was able to deduce things from what little trivial information she had. Finally, he saw Lena Fox find a few numbers from the American Army open to public and continue calling.

There was no response, then no response, and still no response. Eventually, Lena Fox became silent. Then, the expression on her face changed, and she said suddenly, “I remember this very old movie. It was about a robotic man who traveled from the future just to destroy an artificial intelligence while protecting the leader of the human resistance. That movie was called ‘The Terminator’. You must be the terminator, because you’re so good, right?

“Some of my judgements might have been wrong. You were actually protecting me from the beginning. Even though you acted like you didn’t care, it was only a way to get my attention, and you’ve succeeded. It would be suspicious if you forced me to follow you.

“In fact, you know me very well. You even camped at the roadside to stop the kidnappers from killing me at the beginning. So… I’m the leader of the human resistance, am I right?”

“Now the government, army, police, and the companies have all disappeared. A talented, intelligent, charming, elegant woman like me is the only hope to restore humanity. I’m the best indeed!”

Ha ha ha…! Zhou Qingfeng could not help laughing when he heard Lena Fox, who was so confident about herself. What’s that? Miss Fox, you’re really narcissistic!

However, Lena Fox’s face quickly became downcast as she said, “You’ve saved me, but your first priority is to terminate the artificial intelligence threatening the future of mankind.

“You’re not actually looking for the current top-of-the-line DogMeat. Instead, you’re planning to destroy the ultimate central processing unit, ‘Titan’, in the Babylon’s Smartlab, am I right?”

Zhou Qingfeng took her speculations as a joke and started laughing non-stop. His injured chest smarted while he laughed. He then said, “Miss Fox, your reasoning is really interesting. But I think you should think about the situation instead. What should you do in order to survive?”
