Chapter 400: Giving timely help
The first users to receive the trial version of the software are undoubtedly Beijing Hang University and the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Of course, due to the company's formalized process and legal perfection, an authorization document still needs to be sent out through the postal service.
After all, the postmark is an important basis for judging the period (time limit) and delivery behavior in civil activities, especially in the process of making a contract.
This matter is particularly important in this era before electronic contract signing.
It was just that it was delivered within the same city, and the priority was high, so both parties received the paper authorization license on the second day after the trial version was released.
In fact, they don't even need an installation program—TORCHMultiphysics software itself was born in the computer room of Beijing Airlines and the Institute of Computing Technology.
It's just that the effectiveness of this authorization document means that researchers in these two institutions can use the new software in publicly published results or in the process of completing projects.
Subsequently, a little later, several central enterprises and universities headquartered in the Science and Technology Commission system, including the Aviation Industry Corporation and the Aerospace Corporation, also received the same permission.
According to the plan set by Chang Haonan, users of the upgraded version will receive the installation CD of the software about two to three weeks before users of the professional version. This is mainly because the former are basically confidential units within the system. In case of legal provisions or If there are any flaws in the software design, the impact caused by them being discovered first is relatively controllable.
As a price, the projects in the hands of these units are basically hard work with long cycles and large investment, so generally speaking, complete usage feedback cannot be obtained in a short period of time.
But everything is always special.
At almost the same time that relevant units began to receive the TORCHMultiphysics software installation package in batches, Bingcheng University of Technology.
Professor Li Zhihong's research team has been troubled by the project in their hands for a long time.
Since 1992, they have been collaborating with colleagues from several other universities to conduct research on high-precision spiral bevel gear processing.
This is a very common part in high-end aerospace, equipment manufacturing and other fields. For example, the turbofan 10 engine and heavy-duty die forging press that Chang Haonan is concentrating on preparing to tackle, both require a large number of high-precision spiral bevel gears.
Due to the complex spatial shape and structure, its processing is quite difficult. For a long time, it can only be completed by CNC gear grinding machines imported from Gleason in the United States and Klingenberg in Germany.
However, the functions of imported gear grinding machines are limited, and many products are restricted from being used in manufacturing. If problems are encountered during production, the data must be transmitted to the machine tool manufacturer, and foreign technicians will adjust the parameters. .
It is equivalent to a manufacturer here in China spending a huge sum of 15 to 20 million to buy a machine, but only working as an operator for a foreign supplier. Not only can it not produce the most in-demand parts, but it does not even have access to knowledge in related fields. .
It's just plain bullying!
Hence, it is imperative to obtain your own digital precision machining capabilities.
In the first half of this year, this research, which was originally aimed solely at high-precision spiral bevel gears, was included in the Seiko Project and expanded into a broader "new principle and new method of digital precision machining of high-performance complex curved surfaces."
After obtaining new resources and funding, Professor Li Zhihong finally began to change the last step of the traditional three-step process of "gear milling-heat treatment-grinding" to gear grinding, and trial-produced a gear that met the requirements in a laboratory environment. Finished products, but they have never been able to be transferred to industrial production.
The most difficult part of this process is that the gear grinding process must be coordinated with the heat treatment process to correct the deformation error generated during the latter process. However, the grinding process itself will generate a large amount of grinding heat, affecting the correction accuracy and subsequent stress release. process.
Relevant foreign manufacturers have been deeply involved in this field for decades or even hundreds of years, and each has a set of fairly accurate grinding processing models. Even so, for different specific products, a large number of experiments are still required to determine the processing parameters.
Domestic research has only started less than 20 years ago, so you can imagine how difficult it is to catch up in a short period of time.
“Wang Jie.”
Li Zhihong took off his glasses, rubbed the top of his head that was already losing some hair, and called over a student next to him who was immersed in drawing.
“Send this new process requirement to the processing factory.”
Wang Jie on the other side of the room put down the pencil and compass in his hand, walked over and took a thick stack of documents from the professor's hand, opened it and took a look at it.
“Have you adjusted the empirical parameters in the grinding force calculation formula again?”
Even Wang Jie, who has just joined the research team for about a year, is already familiar with it.
Li Zhihong didn't say anything, just nodded.
"well…"
Wang Jie sighed inaudibly while putting the documents in his hand into his schoolbag.
Engineering technology research and development projects is indeed very high-end. It often costs tens or millions of R&D funds. What we usually come into contact with are highly classified national weapons, which are very difficult to achieve.
But on the other hand, most of the work they usually do can be summed up as parameter adjustment, trial production, sample analysis, parameter readjustment, and trial production again...
Even if it were an ordinary high school student, there would be no problem.
After passing through the initial fresh stage, although Wang Jie will still handle his work diligently, he will inevitably have doubts about his own value.
They have also tried to use numerical calculations to theoretically calculate the heat treatment and grinding processes to repeat the number of iterations. However, since the temperature, stress conditions and calculation boundaries of the workpiece are constantly changing during the entire processing process, In the end, the results they calculated were completely irrelevant to the actual situation.
This is certainly not unexpected—
If the results could be obtained so easily by calculation, then several top companies in the industry must have used it long ago, instead of continuing to rely on the empirical formulas passed down by their ancestors.
But it is really difficult for late-developing countries, especially China, which is not yet a high-level economic country.
“Don't be discouraged. In fact, our progress in the past six months is already very fast, whether compared to the past or compared to our foreign counterparts.”
Li Zhihong put on his glasses again and taught his students.
“Teacher, I know this, I just think this is not the same as the scientific research I expected...”
"Alas... we are engaged in mechanical manufacturing..." Just halfway through speaking, the door of the office room was pushed open.
The person who rushed in was the senior brother and junior boss of the research team, Zheng Shudong.
“Teacher Li, the school computing center said that they received a brand new numerical simulation software today, which may be able to solve our problem.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Li Zhihong and Wang Jie stared directly at him.
Especially the latter.
I just complained about the gap between reality and ideals, and now I have an opportunity to realize my ideals.
“Tell me in detail?”
As a mentor, Li Zhihong is much more stable after all, but his eyes also reveal excitement.
“A few days ago, Beijing University of Science and Technology and the Institute of Computing Technology of the Academy of Sciences jointly launched a software development project, mainly to solve the strong nonlinear problem in the multi-field coincidence simulation process.”
The other two people in the room looked at each other.
Obviously, for them this is just like giving them a pillow when they are drowsy.
“Let's go and have a look.”
The three of them left the laboratory quickly. Professor Li Hongzhi even forgot to fasten the cap of his pen.
When they arrived at the computer room, several acquaintances were already there.
“Lao Li, when this software was delivered to me today, the first thing I thought of was you. Come and take a look at this, the instruction manual and promotional brochure sent by Torch Company.”
Li Zhihong squeezed through the crowd and got in front of the computer.
“TORCHMultiphysics…the name is quite straightforward.”
He pushed up his glasses. Although his tone was calm, his eyes were firmly fixed on the lines of text on the screen.
The previous large paragraph is really basic for professional researchers, but Li Zhihong was a little embarrassed to turn directly to the part that interested him most.
“Teacher, you can directly select the chapter here.”
Wang Jie's stupid speech quickly helped his mentor find the right path.
“Why are you so anxious? Others may still want to see it...”
Although Li Zhihong said this, he followed his instructions very honestly and clicked directly into the "Force and Heat Coupling" section.
“The temperature field is a collection of the distribution of grinding temperature in the spatial domain and time domain caused by various heat sources…”
He quickly became fully involved.
About twenty minutes later, the master and apprentice looked at each other several times.
“Is this a bit close to the scientific research you expected?”
The first person to speak was naturally Li Zhihong.
He adjusted his glasses and asked Wang Jie.
“Close, too close.”
The latter kept nodding.
The director of the supercomputing center next to him finally spoke after seeing this:
“Actually, I originally wanted to ask the development director of this software, who is also the director of Beijing Airlines Supercomputing Center, to give a special lecture, but after calling me, the other person said that he was not in school recently, so it was not possible.”
“It doesn't matter.”
Li Zhihong shook his head:
“The application of this software is not difficult, even for people who are not computer majors. As for the specific effects...of course, we still need to test it to know.”
After speaking, he looked at the other party with questioning eyes.
The director obviously understood what he meant:
“No problem, in the next few months this year, our research group's supercomputing time allocation will be doubled!”
