Chapter 151 Yun-8's wings are frozen, causing a big problem
In 1996, our country spent a huge amount of US$66 million to purchase 8 sets of Soushui-2000MS radars from the United Kingdom. It was planned to be installed on the Y-8 platform and handed over to the naval aviation for use in searching for surface targets to guide fighter-bomber attacks. 7 launches anti-ship missiles to attack.
In the end, a total of 4 Y8J maritime surveillance aircraft were produced.
These four aircraft were also our country's only space-based long-range detection capabilities at the turn of the century.
Performance...can only be said to be unsatisfactory.
But at least the problem of availability has been solved, and this kind of aircraft also has certain command capabilities, allowing our army to accumulate a lot of experience in the tactical arrangement and use support of real early warning aircraft in advance.
Because the radar purchased from the UK has not yet arrived, the Y-8Y in front of Chang Haonan is actually just a platform model waiting to be modified. The main task at this stage is to conduct test flights in various environments to obtain sufficient flight data.
At this time, the aircraft parked in the hangar had already suffered obvious damage. The improved nose radome and nose landing gear were almost in disfigurement due to the impact during landing.
Fortunately, the cockpit and wing parts were relatively intact, so the crew members only suffered some injuries, and there is still the possibility of subsequent repairs.
There are already many staff from Factory 182 inspecting the aircraft here.
Seeing Du Yishan and Chang Haonan walk into the hangar, a burly middle-aged man walked up and said in Mandarin with a slight Hunan accent:
“Academician Du, we have restored and simulated the flight data during the landing process according to your analysis, and found that it is completely consistent with the actual situation.”
"In addition, we have just temporarily transferred a Y-8F from the assembly workshop, which can be used to cooperate with you in testing. The data on An-12 surveying and imitation and the design drawings of several subsequent improved models have also been prepared. Our 182 Factory has obtained it from us. From now on, no, everyone from General Manager Wang on down will obey your orders!”
Originally, Chang Haonan had no impression of the person in front of him, but he immediately reacted after hearing his accent.
This is the chief designer of a series of future improved models of the Y8 platform, Liang Shaoxiu.
Since Chief Engineer Xu Peilin, who was originally responsible for the Yun-8 prototype to Yun-8C, retired last year, the 182 Factory, which has relatively weak technical strength, can only take the lead at this time.
Just when I was at my most desperate, I encountered such a fatal accident.
“At my age, I'm almost the same as your Commander Xu. I can analyze problems well, but I can't keep up with young people in other aspects.”
Du Yishan waved his hand, and then gestured to Chang Haonan beside him:
“This is my student, Chang Haonan. I think the main work of this improvement should be completed by him.”
"this…"
Liang Shaoxiu looked at Chang Haonan, who was younger than himself, and hesitated for a moment.
But soon he remembered that he had seen this name before:
“Oh…the one from 606 Institute that applied this year…”
The design of the J-8C has not yet been finalized. After all, it is a confidential project and will not be promoted in a particularly public form. Therefore, Chang Haonan is now more well-known as the first person to complete advanced technological achievements.
This kind of title has almost no influence outside, but it can be used as hard currency within the aviation system.
“Hello, Mr. Liang, it's a pleasure to work with you and the comrades of Factory 182.”
After the experience of the August 3rd Project, Chang Haonan's [management ability] has improved, and he has gradually become accustomed to dealing with similar scenes. He is no longer the small character in his previous life who was a little nervous even attending seminars.
“Hello, Comrade Chang Haonan, it's great to have Academician Du and your help, thank you.”
"The time pressure we are facing now is very tight. The Yun-8J is developed on the basis of the fully air-tight Yun-8C. The improvements do not involve the wing part of the aircraft, so this accident is a serious issue for the entire Yun-8 model. A big problem."
"We are about to deliver a batch of new models of Y-8F to Postal Aviation. If the hidden danger of icing on the wings cannot be properly solved, users may refuse to accept them. The export orders we are negotiating with Persia will also be affected. Influence."
"Well... I can't guarantee anything about time, but I will definitely achieve the fastest efficiency." Chang Haonan nodded:
"How about we take a look at the design information first?" "Okay, follow me."
Looking at Chang Haonan's confident look, Liang Shaoxiu, who was originally anxious, also calmed down a lot.
Actually, Chang Haonan knew the crux of the Y-8 wing icing problem.
It's just that he has never come into contact with information related to Yun 8 in this life, so it is too inconsistent to directly confirm his chest...
Simply put, the design of the de-icing system of the An-12/Yun-8 aircraft is not reasonable enough.
Taking the horizontal stabilizer with the most serious ice problem as an example, it only has an electric heating de-icing system that is distributed on the entire horizontal tail surface and is evenly exposed to rain and dew. Moreover, this system only has one highest current mode available.
In the Soviet Union, considering the climate conditions near the Arctic Circle, this design is still barely usable. Anyway, the temperature is low enough, and the current is high.
Even so, the flight safety record of the An-10/An-12 is quite poor.
In China, where the temperature is relatively high, if the heating system is turned on for a long time before it freezes, it will cause the insulating glue layer to heat up rapidly and carbonize, further causing a short circuit and burning through the tail skin.
So the pilot must turn on the electric heating device only after confirming that there is a risk of ice forming on the horizontal tail, or even when ice has already begun to form.
Even so, there are risks.
Because the ice thickness at different parts of the wing is different, but the heating power of the deicing device is average.
It is very likely that the ice has not been removed in some places and the insulation glue layer in some places has begun to be damaged.
Of course, there are some experts who can rely on experience to prevent icing in advance by turning on the heating device for multiple short periods of time, but this obviously should not be a requirement for ordinary pilots.
As for the main wing of the aircraft, as Du Yishan said before, due to the use of a more efficient aerothermal anti-icing system, there is really no need to worry about anti-icing capabilities.
But it is definitely not without problems.
Gas-thermal de-icing requires extracting high-temperature and high-pressure gas from the engine combustion chamber as a heat source, which will inevitably affect the power of the aircraft.
Therefore, on the premise of meeting the de-icing capacity, the total amount of gas used should be reduced as much as possible to maintain engine performance.
However, the design of the Yun 8 system also highlights the idea that great power can produce miracles—
You should know that aircraft are most likely to encounter wing ice during takeoff, landing, and low-altitude and low-speed flight.
The engine also needs to output enough power, or be prepared to output enough power.
At this time, if you pump out 10% of the high-temperature and high-pressure gas at a time to remove ice, how can the power be guaranteed?
Moreover, the environment of low-altitude and low-speed flight is inherently complex, and artificially adding a high-speed airflow blowing on the wing surface will only further increase instability.
All of this makes the Yun8's already poor low-speed performance even worse.
“By the way, Commander Liang.”
After walking out of the hangar, Chang Haonan suddenly stopped Liang Shaoxiu in front of him:
“It would be better to have an expert in meteorology to assist us, which would be much more efficient.”
Thank you brothers for your support. The best-selling selection will be posted tomorrow, with more updates!
