Chapter 38.4: Coming Out to Quell the Upheaval

"What's going on? Has something happened in the palace?"

Duanmu Xue knitted up her brows, her face filled with worry.

"We have Phoenix Fifth guarding the palace. Things should be fine." Huangfu Che said, his brows similarly tightly creased up.

Back in the palace, Phoenix Fifth and the others were blinded by the dazzling red light, unable to even open their eyes.

[What in the world is that! ?]

[It's so dazzling bright…..]

The clear cries of a phoenix rose in song, reverberating through the Imperial Palace.

[Good heavens! What is that! ?]

[It is the Vermillion Bird Divine Beast!]

[She had actually witnessed the manifestation of the legendary Divine Beast, the Vermillion Bird! And….. there seems to be a goddess standing upon the back of the Vermillion Bird Divine Beast.]

"Phoenix Fifth."

Duanmu Xi found it a little funny to see Phoenix Fifth standing here in a daze, looking so foolish.

Phoenix Fifth found that she could not speak. "….."

She thought she just heard Her Highness the Crown Princess call her name….. Her Highness the Crown Princess….

[Oh my Heavens! It's Her Highness the Crown Princess standing upon the back of the Vermillion Bird Divine Beast!]

"Your….. Your Highness Crown Princess….." [has finally come out from seclusion in training.]

Phoenix Fifth was so moved that she was stumbling over her words clumsily.

After the initial euphoria passed, Phoenix Fifth quickly gathered herself together.

"I implore for Your Highness the Crown Princess to hurry over to the Southern City Gates. Duke Jing has revolted and the Lady Emperor and Phoenix Empress are both there now."

Duanmu Xi's eyes immediately turned frosty, and her entire body exuded a sinister chill. Fortunately Scarlet was not afraid of the cold

"Scarlet, go to the Southern City Gates."

[Nothing had better happened to Father and Mother. Otherwise, she will make Duanmu Shuang know what it means to be better off dead.]

"Yes, my Mistress."

[Mistress?]

Phoenix Fifth was completely stunned.

[Her Highness the Crown Princess has really managed to contract the Vermillion Bird Divine Beast! ? Can anything be more moving than this?]

Duanmu Xi stood on the back of Scarlet, as they flew towards the Southern City Gates.

Wherever Scarlet passed, night turned into day. The citizens of the Imperial Capital City all came out to see what was causing the phenomenon and were greeted by the captivating sight of a dazzling fiery phoenix flying over their rooftops.

"It's the Vermillion Bird Divine Beast! Heavens! It's really the Vermillion Bird Divine Beast!"

"Am I still dreaming? I am seeing a real live Vermillion Bird Divine Beast right before my eyes!"

"Look! A goddess is standing right on the back of the Vermillion Bird Divine Beast!"

After the initial awe passed, everyone fell right to their knees, in reverent worship of the godly Vermillion Bird.

Over at the Southern City Gates, Duanmu Xue and the others were putting up their final resistance.

The rebel army were doing everything they could to infiltrate into the city, some scaling the walls by climbing, others propping up ladder after ladder, and many more ramming the city gates.

And it was at that very point of imminent peril that the clear cry of a phoenix rang out over the horizon, and a massive flaming Fire Phoenix appeared in the skies over the Southern City Gates.

Everyone paused in whatever they were doing, staring blankly in a daze at the godly fiery bird in the sky.

Moments passed…..

"Good Heavens! What is that! ?"

"There is someone standing on its back….."

Seeing that Duanmu Xue and Huangfu Che were still safe, Duanmu Xi's heart was greatly relieved, before she then turned her icy cold gaze onto the rebel army below her.

"In the presence of this Divine Beast, the Vermillion Bird, aren't all you traitorous rebels and infidels going to submit and surrender?"

Duanmu Xi's words immediately raised a wave of commotion.

"The Vermillion Bird Divine Beast?"

"Heavens! It's really the Vermillion Bird Divine Beast!"

"Her Highness the Crown Princess has returned!"

The faces of the rebel army soldiers immediately filled up with terror.
