Chapter 39 . 1: The Death of Duanmu Shuang

Seeing that the army’s morale was wavering, Duanmu Shuang grew anxious .

“Everyone must not listen to her evil lies that is trying to mislead all of you . How could such a thing like the Vermillion Bird Divine Beast possibly exist? The Vermillion Bird Divine Beast is merely just a legend… . . ”

Duanmu Xi’s violet eyes narrowed, and a cold icy glint flashed .

Without waiting for Duanmu Xi to act, Scarlet breathed out an enormous fireball straight towards Duanmu Shuang below .

“Argh… . . ”

After the pitiful scream faded, there was only a burnt and charred corpse left .

Everyone was too shocked to say a word .

To think that Duke Jing had died just like that . A powerful Mystic Supreme level pugilist was killed in just an instant .

The rebel army immediately fell into hopeless despair .

Duanmu Xi stared at the chaos below and her cold voice rang out once more .

“Are all of you not going to surrender and choose to suffer the Vermillion Bird’s punishment?”

Upon hearing the word punishment, everyone immediately remembered the poor wretched state Duanmu Shuang was in . They all shivered with a chill and quickly dropped the weapons they held in their hands before they lay themselves flat on the ground, begging incessantly for their lives .

“May the Vermillion Bird God be appeased… . . ”

“May the Vermillion Bird God spare our lives… . . ”

Someone among the defending army then shouted: “Her Highness the Crown Princess has come back!”

“Long live Her Highness the Crown Princess, long live Her Highness the Crown Princess… . . ”

Everyone broke out into raucous cheers .  

“Little Xi . ”

Xuanyuan Mo was in a daze as he stared at Duanmu Xi riding atop the back of the Vermillion Bird .

[It’s Little Xi!]

[His Little Xi has come back safely! This is great!]

“Little Xi!”

Duanmu Xue and Huangfu Che could not help but shout out to her excitedly .

Duanmu Xi jumped off from Scarlet’s back and landed just before the two of them in a half kneel .

“Father, Mother, Little Xi has returned . ”

Seeing Duanmu Xi kneeling respectfully right in front of her eyes, Duanmu Xue’s eyes immediately turned red rimmed .

“Little Xi, you’ve finally come back . ”

“Stand up now, it’s good that you’re back . ”

Huangfu Che stepped forward to pull Duanmu Xi to her feet, his face emotional .

Duanmu Xi climbed to her feet and looked at the two of them guiltily as she said: “I’m glad that Father and Mother are safe . I am to be blamed for the entire mess . I should have told you everything earlier that Duanmu Shuang and Duanmu Qing were the ones who tried to kill me back then, so that you will at least have your guard up against them . ”

After Duanmu Qing’s death, she had already wanted to ask them to be wary of Duanmu Shuang, but she had not had the chance to bring it up .

Duanmu Xue then came up to pat Duanmu Xi on her shoulder .

“How can you be blamed for this? I have been aware of Duanmu Shuang’s rapacious ambitions since a long time ago . But with the tiny bit of military strength she had under her control, I did not think that she could be of any threat, never once thinking that she would actually conspire with the Black Tortoise Kingdom to raise a rebellion against our kingdom . ”

Duanmu Xi then turned around to look for Xuanyuan Mo, and saw him looking fixedly at her . The ends of her lips unconsciously lifted slightly, and she then went walking slowly over towards him .

“Snowy, I’m back . ”

Xuanyuan Mo looked at the girl whom he had thought of so much in the past, and thought that it all felt so surreal now .
