Chapter 16: Full Moon Night

In the Vermillion Bird's Bonded Hearts Palace, a white robed man with flawless looks was reading through some memorials.

The man looked to be about twenty seven or twenty eight years of age, and looking closely at his countenance, it was about seventy to eighty percent similar to that of Duanmu Xi's, his phoenix like eyes filled with sorrow.

"Your Majesty, her Majesty is awake." The attendant reported in a soft voice.

"Keep all this away. I will go through them later tonight."

Huangfu Che then walked quickly towards the bedchambers further back in the palace.

Upon a replesdent and gorgeous bed, lay a beautiful looking woman. The woman's complexion was pale as snow, her face tired looking.

"Xue Er, you're awake. How do you feel?"

Huangfu Che helped Xue Er up carefully, letting her lean against his body.

"Che, I dreamt of Little Xi again. I dreamt that she was being persecuted by people and she….."

Duanmu Xue's face was a pale white like she still had not awoken from that terrifying dream, her deep violet eyes filled with terror.

"Be good Xue Er, don't let your thoughts run wild. That is just a dream. Little Xi will be fine."

Huangfu Che pushed down the unease in his heart, and wrapped Duanmu Xue in an embrace, to comfort her with a soothing voice.

"Che, I'm really frightened. I'm afraid that Little Xi will….."

"It won't. Little Xi will definitely come back, and she will come back very soon."

"Mother….."

"Xi Er, wake up."

Xuanyuan Mo patted Duanmu Xi lightly on her cheek, trying to wake her.

"Mother….."

Duanmu Xi suddenly sat up, bathed in cold sweat.

"Had a bad dream?"

Xuanyuan Mo asked worriedly as he patted Duanmu Xi softly on her back.

Duanmu Xi shook her head. She could no longer differentiate whether what she saw in the dream was her host body's memory or her very own thoughts.

"Xi Er, I will not be able to remain with you today. You can choose to wait for me here or you can go ahead and leave first, and I will catch up with you tomorrow."

Although he really could not bear to, but Xuanyuan Mo still had to say it to her.

Duanmu Xi was taken aback, surprised that he was going to leave, but she did not probe any further as everyone had their own secrets.

"Alright then. I'll go on ahead."

That night, Duanmu Xi lay sleeplessly upon the broad branch of a big tree, staring up into the round moon in the sky.

It was the Mid Autumn Festival again and she missed Grandfather so much. Even she herself, the only person whom Grandfather could spend the Mid Autumn Festival with was "dead". How lonely Grandfather must be feeling. And there was also Little Shadow. She didn't know when would she be able to save Little Shadow and make her regain consciousness.

In a well hidden cave over on the other side, Xuanyuan Mo's face was deathly pale and cold sweat covered over his forehead. His eyes were closed as he tried to regulate his breathing, seeming like he was struggling to suppress something inside himself.

Just as Duanmu Xi was gazing into the glittering night sky and her eyelids were growing heavier and heavier, Lan Ze's voice suddenly rang out in her head.

"Mistress, someone's here. Don't fall asleep yet."

Duanmu Xi immediately snapped awake and held her breath, gathering her senses about her as she listened carefully.

There was really someone. In fact, there were many people.

"We've searched for so many days and we've still not found anything. That kid really knows how to hide. Could he possibly have left the Wounded Unicorn Forest already?"

[What a familiar voice. That's right, it's that bunch of assassins. From the look of things, they still have not managed to find the person they are looking for.]

"He is definitely still inside the forest. We have to find Xuanyuan Mo tonight. Otherwise after tonight, we might not be able to kill him even if we come to find him."

"Yes."

[Xuanyuan Mo? The person these killers are looking for is actually Xuanyuan Mo?] Duanmu Xi nearly fell out from the tree in surprise.

The voices went further and further away. Duanmu Xi jumped down from the tree and gazed towards the direction the black robed men had disappeared into, her brows furrowed up together.
