The Devoted Second Male Lead Decided to Favor Someone Else Chapter 34.1

Scarlet Rose [ABO] – What Happens When the Villain Dies at the Beginning? (31)

“What did you say? Payne saw through Maupay's identity and captured him?”

When Frenda caught wind of this, she immediately reported it to Blood Owl, knowing how important he was to him.

Lu Shijin was in disbelief. Maupay had been by Payne's side for so long without being suspected, so how did Payne suddenly find out?”

Did Maupay accidentally expose himself or did someone else expose him?

“Have you found out how Maupay was exposed?” Lu Shijin asked.

“There's no way to find out right now, but according to the informant, Payne imprisoned Maupay and is torturing him to find your whereabouts.”

Lu Shijin fell silent, then chuckled. “How can he be sure that Maupay knows my location?”

“Maybe there's a backstabber who not only exposed Maupay, but also the importance you attach to him?”

“Okay, don't tell anyone else about this yet.”

“Understood.” Frenda hesitated, then said, “Boss, I know that Maupay is important to you, but you can't go into this alone. It's clearly a trap.”

“If you can tell, of course I can tell. He's trying to get me to take the bait.” Lu Shijin calmly said, “Rest assured, I'm not that stupid.”

Turning off the video call, 711 asked, “What are you going to do next?”

“Blood Owl” took off his black mask, showing a face that was identical to that of “Lu Shijin”. The only difference was the pair of crafty eyes.

“Of course, I'm going to fulfill my little prince's wish.”

Late night.

Imperial prison 01.

Everyone held here were the worst of the worst. The prison was heavily guarded and fortified. Not even a fly could leave.

Two soldiers patrolled around, returning to the control room after finding nothing out of the ordinary.

It was two in the morning. To make sure they wouldn't accidentally fall asleep, the two began chatting.

“Did you hear? Apparently the new prisoner was the Emperor's attendant, and he's a spy from Scarlet Rose! It's so scary to think of how this organization can even place people by the Emperor's side. Wouldn't they know all the secrets of the Empire?”

“It's all exaggerations and rumors. I know that person. He's been with the Emperor for a long time, and is extremely loyal. You say that he's a spy, where's the evidence? There's none, right? In my opinion, he probably angered his Majesty and is being punished with that excuse as a guise. This new Emperor is cruel and ruthless, even daring to kill his biological family. It would be as easy as crushing an ant for him to deal with an attendant.”

“Accompanying the Emperor is like accompanying a tiger. I wanted to climb up and become a high-ranking official before, but now that I think about it, staying as a prison guard is pretty good. It's easy and safe, don't you agree?”

“Hahaha, who would say it's not safe? I've been here for five years now, and have never seen anything happen here! This could be the job with the least risk!” Looking at the monitor, he proudly said, “There are electric fences and cameras everywhere, not a thing can go by unnoticed.”

“Really?”

A cold, low voice suddenly sounded in the empty monitoring room. The two guards who were busy boasting and talking were startled, slowly turning to look at each other, wondering if they heard wrong.

“You don't even know when I came in, yet you still say that not a single thing can go by unnoticed?” A man in black bowed, looking at the two guards in a friendly way. “Oh right, I forgot. You don't have eyes on the back of your heads.”

The two guards' scalps were numb as they stiffly turned their heads around. When they saw the cape and mask, their eyes showed their extreme fright, subconsciously wanting to take out their guns for self-defense.

But before they could even touch their guns, they were knocked unconscious by Lu Shijin.

Lu Shijin dusted his hands, striding over the fallen guards as he went towards the monitor. “Today's lesson: there is risk in everything, don't take chances.”

Looking at all the buttons in front of the monitor made Lu Shijin dizzy, not knowing which one to press to see where Maupay was.

Lu Shijin could only ask 711 for help. “Convenience store, how do you do this?”

“The third button on the second row from the left.”

Lu Shijin pressed it. As expected, the screen displayed the room Maupay was confined in.

Maupay was tied to an iron frame, his clothes stained with blood, as though he had just been tortured badly.

Lu Shijin confirmed where Maupay was being kept and prepared to go there to rescue him.

“Wait, something's not right.” 711 stopped him. “Don't you think there's something off? From these cameras, it seems like there aren't many guards. Given what kind of place this is, they shouldn't be this sloppy.”

“I know. Deliberately withdrawing the defense is an obvious trick to make me go there.” Lu Shijin said dismissively, “But even if I know, I still need to save the person, or else how could I continue with the act? Just wait, the best part is going to start soon.”

Lu Shijin borrowed an “instant teleport card,” using it to avoid all the checkpoints and cameras as he directly arrived at cell 22, where Muapay was being kept.

The prison was quiet this late at night. All the prisoners were asleep.

Maupay was forced to remain upright as he was tied to the metal frame. His body was wrapped in chains, tightly restraining him to prevent any kind of resistance.

Maupay hung his head, seeming to also be asleep, completely unaware that someone had appeared in his cell.

Lu Shijin tutted and said to 711, “Payne actually went this far. Little Maupay's so loyal to him, but to force me out, he could turn on him so quickly. But I really want to know how he found out Maupay's one of my people. It doesn't make sense.”

“Maybe Maupay loves Payne too much, so he exposed himself?”

Lu Shijin figured that was the case. “That's a possibility, after all, love makes people blind.”

“Maupay, wake up.” Blood Owl patted Maupay's face. Maupay slowly opened his eyes. Seeing that the person in front of him was Blood Owl, his gray eyes filled with disbelief, thinking that he was dreaming.

“It's not a dream, it's really me. I'm taking you away.” Blood Owl said as he unlocked the chains around Maupay's body.

But Maupay started struggling, hoarsely urging, “You shouldn't be here, don't mind me! Leave quickly! This is a trap!”

“I know.” Blood Owl successfully got all of the chains off and supported Maupay, “But you're here. I have to come even if it is a trap.”

“Clap clap clap . . .”

Outside the cell, applause suddenly sounded, as well as the sound of countless neat and orderly steps. The lights on the ceiling turned on, turning the inside of the cell as bright as day.
