Scarlet Rose [ABO] – What Happens When the Villain Dies at the Beginning? (22)
Steven felt like he just went for a walk before death's door and quickly threw the revolver to Payne, breathing deeply and heavily to calm himself.
Payne casually rubbed the handle of the gun and without any hesitation, not giving anyone time to prepare, he put the gun against his head and pulled the trigger.
In this kind of tense situation, everyone felt their scalp go numb, adrenaline rushing through their bodies.
The second round was also empty!
The revolver was returned to Steven. After having done it once, Steven wasn't so scared anymore. He quickly pulled the trigger. It was still empty!
The fourth shot was Payne's, empty!
The ministers watched in fascination as they continuously wiped ] sweat from their brows. They were very afraid of missing any of the exciting action!
It was the last two chances, a fifty-fifty chance! Who would be the lucky winner?!
The answer was soon to be revealed. Neptune calmly returned to his throne, as if everything was in control.
Cassia had not moved from her seat. She seemed as though she was about to faint as she looked down at Payne with sadness.
Neptune patted her hand, comforting, “He chose this path. If he chooses to give up and admits his wrongdoings to me right now, I can let him off. Cassia, it's his choice. No one can help him.”
With that, he picked up his glass from the table and happily emptied it as he looked at the cornered Payne.
Under countless gazes, Steven clenched his teeth and shot the fifth round— empty!
When he heard the expected click, Steven was overjoyed and turned to throw the gun to Payne with a smug and gloating smile.
“Payne, looks like God is on my side today, do you have any last words? Or, you can just admit your defeat and kowtow to his Majesty. Don't you think it's better to live than to die?”
“Payne!” The Empress finally couldn't endure it and stood up. Her exquisite makeup had long been smudged with her tears. At that moment, she wasn't a noble Empress, just a mother who couldn't bear to see her child die. “Stop it!”
But Payne didn't stop. He raised the gun, putting it right against his temple as he looked at Cassia with a sad smile. “Mother, I know your choice.”
Cassia screamed “No!” and wanted to rush down, but was stopped by Neptune.
Payne glanced at Gu Zhong, who was looking back at him. His usual rigid expression actually changed and he winked at Payne.
Payne stopped hesitating and closed his eyes as he pulled the trigger!
Steven was prepared to start laughing, ecstatic that Payne, this thorn by his side, was finally gone. However, he didn't hear the loud gunshot he expected.
What was this?!
“Ah!”
“My God!”
“Why are they all empty?”
A series of exclamations rang out from the crowd.
“Could the former Emperor's spirit be protecting his Highness?”
“What are you saying? How can you still believe in such supernatural things in this era?”
“Then why do you think they were all empty?”
“It was stuck?”
Seeing that nothing happened to Payne, Cassia collapsed onto her seat in relief. Meanwhile, Neptune was shocked and immediately turned to Gu Zhong with an accusatory gaze.
Gu Zhong was likewise shocked, saying. “I don't know what happened either.”
Even if Neptune suspected Gu Zhong, he couldn't do anything at the moment, so he endured his anger and silently watched on.
Payne looked at the revolver in his hand and smiled. “Seems like the gun was stuck, so the bullet didn't come out. Then let's start a second round. This time, I'll go first.” He spun the cylinder again and shot the first round, empty!
“Your turn, cousin.” Payne threw the gun to Steven with a warm smile.
Steven's wide smile was frozen on his face as fear gradually appeared in his eyes.
Payne had the first round. If the gun wasn't stuck this time, then the last round would be his!
Large beads of sweat rolled down his forehead. The cold revolver was now like a hot potato to him. Steven didn't have the strength or willpower to lift the gun.
“What?” Payne deliberately mocked, “Steven, why are you shaking? Your confidence from before, where did it go?”
Steven looked to Neptune for help, but he was given no response.
Payne walked over and helped Steven point the gun at his temple, warmly saying, “You brought up the bet, weren't you so very confident during the first round? Why are you so scared this round? Didn't you say you were willing to bet your life for Neptune's character?” Payne's voice suddenly became fierce and he said loudly, “Then why don't you shoot?!”
Powerful Alpha pheromones were released, immediately making Steven panicked and fearful. His limbs became weak and could no longer remember any bets or promises as he hurriedly threw away the gun and crawled toward Neptune. “Father, save me!”
But he was too slow. Payne picked the gun from the ground and calmly caught up to Steven.
Steven looked back. Upon seeing Payne pointing the gun at him, he ran away with his arms covering his head.
Payne pulled the trigger once, twice, three times, four times, without a single bullet being shot.
At the last round, a loud gunshot rang out in the hall.
As well as Steven's heart-wrenching scream!
