Legacy of Forgotten Times 48 The Prayer

"We should pay them our respects!" Linri looked towards her as if she was crazy. Why the hell should he pay respects to the gods he can talk with in the first place.

"Huh?" Seeing his expression Jaime continued to explain what she meant.

"You know, praying and stuff." Linri still did not buy it. Again, he could talk with them so what's the use praying if he had any requests he could just simply say it to them. Thinking about it he found his situation a little funny. Most people back on his Earth prayed in the hopes that the God would hear their voice but he could directly talk to two of them. If he said that most people would either treat him as a heretic or just simply call him a lunatic so he immediately dispersed these thoughts.

"Wait wait wait you did not even believe in God so what is this about?"

"Well, that was before I knew that they were real. Now that I know I at least want to pay them respects!" He carefully inspected Jaime head to toe as if to see if there was anything wrong with her.

"Before I even get started on your sudden religious choice there is another thing I have to remind you. We do not know how, I mean think about it if we act in an inappropriate way it wouldn't be long before we were smited by the heavens." Jaime was about to protest when Linri heard the voice of Solas in his mind.

"The ritual is simple no need to mind your ignorance. Only thing you have to do is cross your arms in the shape of an X and kowtow twice. Then you have to you have to pray while your head is on the ground." While she was speaking Jaime spoke at the same time as well which made it hard for him to follow either of them.

"It does not matter if we do not know we can still just pray normally"Linri looked at Jaime with annoyance in his eyes. If she had not spoken he could have simply left but she just had to open her mouth. The worst part was now he had to do what Solas told him otherwise that would mean he was defying her. Currently he had no intention to go against the deities. He was still to weak so he had to bow his head.

"Fine, just follow what I am doing." Seeing Linri was a happy occasion for Jaime so she agreed.

Linri walked to the middle of the 9 statues as Solas did not say anything about where he was supposed to stand. He faced against the unknown god in the middle and crossed his arms and followed the process Solas told him.

'Deities of the great Togk civilization, today I bowed my head before your presence. If anyone one of you is listening please show the way to this lost little lamb. I have embarked on a quest to find my parents. They trespassed at your Sacred grounds unintentionally. They are ignorant about your face so please show your magnanimity and forgive them.'

Linri prayed sincerely to the deities. He was a hypocrite maybe more than Solas. He was resistant to the idea of bowing his head to them but now that he had, he was shameless enough to ask for help. He did not find anything wrong with this. After all he was already forced to bow down so why not just take advantage of that. If he could get help that would be wonderful, but if he could not there was nothing to lose. At the end of the day pride was something cheap, but his life and parents, they were irreplaceable.

Now that his prayer was done Linri got up and looked around. Solas and Lozna were silent so Linri knew that his prayer were ignored. It was worth the try and he was not disappointed since he had already expected this.

"We are leaving." Linri said and did not wait for Jaime. He was still pissed at her and he was going to make her pay for this but now was not the time. He could not stop his feelings, he was a petty man so he had to get revenge no matter how small it is.

Jaime quickly caught up to him and seemed to be in a good mood. She was oblivious to his current thoughts. If she knew that this would create trouble for her she might not be as relaxed. Currently her relationship with Linri was like walking on a thin ice, one wrong step and she would fall into the ice cold water. Cracks were already appearing on the ice she was standing but she did her best to mend them. However it was not enough, she could see that. The distance between them was growing and there was nothing she could to do stop that.

Once they exited the hall Linri saw there was another set of stairs spiralling downwards. Just how deep this place go? He did not know and he did not care. He just kept descending.

They made it to then end of stairs and it was pitch black once more. They were so deep underground that there was no natural light. The air felt heavy, suffocating even. Standing before them was a well, it was quite curious to find such a thing inside a temple.

He walked up to it cautiously and shed light into it. The light was not able to reach the end of it. Linri pulled out a flare from his backpack. He had found about 5 such flares at the camp. He lit it up and sent it down the well and watched it fall. He saw the bright reddish white light go down till it was out of his sight. The well was deeper than he thought as he did not even hear it hit the ground.
