Hijacker

Seoul is a nice city when you get to know some Korean friends as well as drinking buddies to chill out on weekend nights. But if you are here for work, you will find this city as a hell of lazy people. City lights, bustling roads, these were the first things Kiera could discover after landing here. She had a reputation of being an introvert with a brain among her colleagues. It was not like she wanted to create this image on her own. But it was actually something that happened naturally. She has had a closed character since she was young. It grew naturally into her. So, without getting involved with others, she tried to solve her problems like that until now. That was easy for her. It was neither a good thing nor a bad thing. And right now, it would be too awkward if she just walks in the middle of them and offers them to have a club night in Seoul after their work is done here as it was totally out of her character.

Sigh. This is so frustrating.

Suddenly she thought of Annabelle. Maybe she is cursing her by now for leaving her with the bratty cousin of hers. Never mind, she deserved it, Kiera thought smiling cheekily. This girl was just one of her clients a few years ago. But now they have become quite close to each other. Annabelle wasn't the only one with whom Kiera worked but she was the very first person Kiera thought of even outside the workplace. She never had a loyal friend before. Actually, she didn't want any before. She thought she could make things work out alone. But after knowing Anna better, she got to know what meant a true friendship. Sitting together, sharing stories of life, watching movies together, all these didn't feel so meaningful before she met Annabelle. Now, it does. She likes it too, the life where Anna's there as her friend.

Kiera's mind was going here and there looking out of the window of the cab. She was heading towards the hotel. She couldn't join with her coworkers though they invited her. They were going to a club before coming back to the hotel.

The cab stopped due to the traffic signal on the road. Kiera could see some cars and motorbikes from the window. She found a couple riding on one of those motorbikes. The girl was driving the bike and the boy was hugging her back lovingly. That scene was so pure that it made Kiera envious. She was never like that before. All of these years, those things she didn't have were actually the things she didn't want. Yes, she did live like this as she believed it. But when Owen came into her life, her rules were changed automatically. She suddenly became weak. Weak to love, weak to care, weak to all those melodramatic feelings. She missed him although she wanted to treat him as her other ex-boyfriends. Maybe if she could share these things with someone, she would be able to forget him.

She herself was a little astounded at her present self. There was a time when she didn't need anyone. And now she is thinking about sharing her sorrows with others. Looks like she is becoming more like a human day by day. Anna knew Kiera was dating someone but Kiera never told her further. Annabelle is a wise girl. She didn't force her to tell her stories. It's not as if Kiera didn't want to share. It's just she was scared to open up suddenly. Though she didn't know what she was scared about. Maybe suddenly starting a new journey from a closed person to an open person is not that easy. But before overcoming her anxiety, things got already wrong.

Now she just doesn't wanna believe in dating again let alone love. She doesn't wanna carry those burdens of feelings anymore. She is also fed up with being a robot. She wants to live her life like Anna.

Anna was her idol. She admired her for being able to live her life as her own. Her life wasn't like a straight line, too. Even it was curvier than hers. But still, she is smiling whenever she sees her and her radiant smile makes her smile too.

Suddenly there was a knock at the window which broke Kiera's daze. A guy wearing a motorbike helmet continuously knocked on the window. Kiera was a bit irritated by the interruption. She opened the window.

"What is it?"

"Hey, Miss. My bike suddenly gave out its engine. I have to rush somewhere. It's urgent. Can I share a ride with you?"

Kiera twitched her brows a bit. There was already the green signal. That guy looked like he was really in a hurry. She was irritated but after thinking something she decided to help the guy.

"Okay, hop in."

Both the driver and the stranger looked at her with shock. That's it? She didn't even ask where he wants to go.

After realizing their thoughts, Kiera said to the driver, "I will pay you more. Just drive the car where this gentleman wants to go. After that, drop me at the hotel."

The driver was very convinced by the offer. The stranger also didn't waste his time. He hopped in and pulled out his helmet showing his overly handsome face. He told the driver to drive to a hospital that was exactly in the opposite direction of the hotel where Kiera is staying.

The taxi started to move again. There was a pin drop silence inside the car. Suddenly the stranger broke the silence with his deep clear voice.

"Miss? Can I ask you a question?"

There was a silence from the other side. A painful minute passed and then Kiera spoke without turning her face from the window glass.

"Ask if it is not unnecessary."

"Why did you let me hop in this car? As I am someone you don't know, I could be a hijacker you know...."

"Are you?"

"What?"

"I asked, are you?" Kiera said, turning her face to him.

"No! Of course not!" the young man said, crossing his fingers.

"Hmm, good."

There was silence again. But the guy didn't feel it right.

"But still, it doesn't make sense. I am not but I could be right?"

"I am a black belt in martial arts."

"But if I had weapons with me?"

He was surprised but still placed another fact. Suddenly Kiera's eyes met his. She stared intensely at him as if she was going to boil him with her eyes. Then he realized he was sitting beside a gorgeous woman not caring about her murderous gaze.

"Then I would let him hijack me because I don't have that much money with me right now. And I don't think a mere hijacker could do more than hijacking with his shitty weapon. I didn't learn martial arts for nothing," she said slowly but intensely.
