Chapter 5 Why Waste Time

The door swung open, and the dust whisked away like a somber breeze pushing leaves in the terminal wind, or a child learning how to whistle for the first time. Akil suddenly gained a spike of hope as now someone has just arrived. The masked person froze in place with their hollowed face staring, waiting for the person to walk into the work-out area. The footsteps grew closer, and the tip tapping became booming with each step the person took as if they were a thunderstorm in the mitz of a weighed down cloud. The masked person gripped onto Akil’s shirt and dragged him to a nearby corner still gripping the edged knife. “Better shut it if you wanna make it out alive.” The voice whispered in an abstract tone, with the hollow esk noise in the background. The individual walked near the light switch and flicked it on. The person was a middle aged male who wore a similar mask to the female but it had a smiley face instead of a sad face.


He held someone on his shoulder as he dropped the body so carelessly as the sound echoed across the dark gym. The masked man seemed like a giant compared to most people as his monstrous gaze stabbed Akil as he laid there paralyzed in shock. “Why did you bring him here? I thought I told you to knock out any threats and leave them at bay! . . . Forget it, we are late for the meeting.” The woman said while standing up, while leaving Akil to lay there in pain. The two ran out the door as Akil attempted to chase after them, but to no avail. Akil clawed at the coir mat trying to do something useful but his body was too paralyzed to do anything. A sense of weakness washed over Akil, as the silence of failure started to consume him.


Questions rambled across his corrupting mind as if it were a caterpillar trying its hardest to find an apple in a forest of grass. Why did that woman seem so familiar? Akil had meet his share of strangers he’s seen in public but it was like there was a true connection towards her. Who was that giant, and how was he connected to the woman? To many questions jabbed at his mind as it was interrupted with the sound of coughing coming from the other person beside him.

“ W-what happened?” The man groaned as he laid there in pain, as he turned around to look up. Akil’s curiosity was answered disappointingly as the man turned out to be Cas all along. Akil’s face became annoyed as he rolled over trying not to look at him. “ Akil? Is that you? Where are we? Why can’t I feel my arm?” Cas cried out trying to crawl over to Akil. “Some jumbo dude dragged you here after I got destroyed by some chick.” He lazily responded as they laid next to each other looking up at the dimmed lights. Silence coursed through the air.



The sound of police sirens rumbling appeared nearby by as the siren’s lights flashed into gym.
