Chapter 16: Life's Message
His eyes locked onto someone that left him stuck in the past within a single glance. In front of him stood a young woman with smooth black hair, eyes as black as obsidian, and skin as clear as a sheet of paper. He never would’ve thought that he would’ve seen her face in a million years. After the incident in high school he didn’t have the guts to ever speak to her again.
The woman glanced at Cas and her eyes widened with excitement, as she began approaching him.
“Cassius is that you?” She asked with a cheerful tone in her voice.
He nodded, and she quickly began hugging him tightly as it was clear that they both enjoyed the hug.
Her body was warm as it felt like a soothing heat calming him down, and almost taking away his worries. A part of him didn’t want it to end, but he knew he was wrong doing this. What would Ren think of him talking to his girlfriend like this?
“Its so good to see you! I haven’t seen you since high school, so how have you been doing all this time?” She asked.
Cas turned his head away from her as he thought about all that has really happened.
Does he tell her about the murders that have been occuring, the disappearances that keep happening,or does he tell her about the conflict between Akil?
“Nothing much, what about you?” He asked while trying to evade any further questions.
She chuckled as she looked up at the sky and her big smile loosened to one of nostalgia.
“Well after Ren was found dead, it shattered me to say the least. I was lost pregnant and didn’t know what to do, but I remembered that Ren always believed that I would show our child a path to greatness, and focused on raising the child. It was rough but with some perseverance I made it.” She said while putting her hands on Cas’s hand.
“He always had faith in you two. . . his words alone described it best.”
“Nobody can kill me, as long as I live inside those who know me I can truly live forever.” She said while attempting to mimic his voice.
Those words ringed in Cas’s head as a realization clicked in his head.
Ren always did talk about carrying his will, as if something was going to happen soon enough.
He had faith in his friends that they could easily surpass him in anything, as long as they put in the work.
A tear shed from his eyes as he looked down at the concrete below him as his depressed frown finally faded away.
And was replaced with a skyrocketing smile, as he ran off with confidence in his heart.
The detective in training is back.
