Chapter 23.3: Old Father

“Do I know fear?” Lu Hua Nian kicked her husband’s foot. So Gu Qin wouldn’t have a low opinion of her, with her chopsticks, she clipped a big helping of salad into her mouth. However, only a second had passed and she was rooted in her place. The big mouthful of herb grass that had just entered her mouth slipped through her throat, leaving a cool and refreshed feeling.

Noticing how Lu Hua Nian was rooted at her original place, Gu Qin jumped out in fright. No longer thinking of making fun of his wife, he hurriedly sat at her side and nervously asked: “What happened? Is it unpalatable? Quick, vomit it out quickly!”

Seeing how Lu Hua Nian still didn’t say anything, he immediately patted her shoulder, and wrinkled his eyebrows as he said: “I told you not to eat it but you didn’t listen. The Lu and Gu families had already been friends for several years. Gu Qin and Lu Hua Nian could be considered as childhood sweethearts. “I really didn’t lie to you.” Lu Hua Nian leaned against Gu Qin’s body while holding the bowl of salad. Clipping some salad by the corner of his mouth, she sincerely said: “Try it if you don’t believe me.” 

When Gu Qin was studying abroad, he took an optional course related to medicine. He saw the salad clipped between the chopsticks and avoided it, not opening his mouth.

“You try it ah, I’m your wife, would I lie to you?” Lu Hua Nian spoke. Her smile had a dangerous force in it. 

“Have you not lied enough to me?” Gu Qin ridiculed heartlessly. Nevertheless, he was still afraid of his wife and opened his mouth to eat the herb grass at the side. His reluctant expression had not yet dispersed when it slowly turned to astonishment. Only after a moment was he able to speak in wonder: “What is this? It really is delicious.”

Lu Hua Nian displayed a “I know you’d say that” look to Gu Qin. Then while eating she replied : “Yun Rong said this is herb grass.”

Gu Qin had already heard Lu Hua Nian mentioning several good things about Yun Rong. The other day he was abroad on business. Once he heard the news that Yuan Yuan nearly got into an accident, he could no longer stay still. Yuan Yuan was his only daughter, also his most loved little angel. If something happened to Yuan Yuan, he would regret it for his whole life. 

Thinking up to here, Gu Qin felt relief. Fortunately, this young lady called Yun Rong rescued Yuan Yuan. He subconsciously hugged his wife in his embrace. His laughing face disappeared and turned serious.

“You seem to like this young lady.”

“Oh course! I really feel there’s fate with Yun Rong. Otherwise, how could other people so coincidentally rescue Yuan Yuan? When I see her, I feel really comfortable, very happy.” Lu Hua Nian earnestly said: “This really is a fortunate affinity.”

“Naturally we have to properly thank her.” Gu Qin touched Lu Hua Nian’s head and continued: “Look for a good date and invite her to come to our house.”

“I also have the same idea.” Lu Hua Nian finished eating the last herb grass and had a small feeling of wanting more. She had already started planning to ask Yun Rong to buy a few. Chinese herbal medicine, these stuff, no matter how good the quality was, it was not comparable to going for treatment to the beauty salon. The former was to treat from the inside, while the latter was to improve the skin condition from outside. Therefore, Lu Hua Nian also didn’t count on getting a desired effect from the first try. In her heart, she still thought that she must eat a few more times before seeing the effect.

As a result, the next day, Lu Hua Nian woke up groggily and as usual entered the washroom to wash her face and rinse her mouth before sending Gu Yuan Yuan to school. At this time, she raised her head and caught sight of an exquisite and fair face clearly projected from the huge mirror.

Of course Lu Hua Nian recognized her own face. But the skin on that face, looked like the tender and exquisite skin of a teenager. The pores on her face couldn’t be seen at all.

Feeling incredible, she reached out to touch the mirror. Only when her fingertips touched the ice-cold mirror’s surface did she really wake up. Despite her meticulous maintenance, after she passed the age of 30, small problems started to appear on her face. However, at the moment, these small problems seemed to disappear. Her whole person looked radiant, just as if she had become five years younger.

“What is it?” Gu Qin rubbed his eyes and climbed down from the bed. Without any further thought he asked: “Is there a wrinkle or a pimple?”

“WTF!” Lu Hua Nian turned violently and was just about to refute when her sight fell onto her hubby’s face. Once again she was stunned in place and sprouted more profanity in succession due to being startled.

Gu Qin’s face wasn’t that outrageous, but the change was nevertheless still very obvious. Not just his skin that had become better, the white scar on his upper eyebrow that he got as a child had also disappeared. That was an over-30-years-old scar!

“We’ve agreed after Yuan Yuan was born that we mustn’t curse…….” Gu Qin frowned and finally opened his eyes. When he saw Lu Hua Nian who was standing in front of him, all the drowsiness was scared away, “WTF!”

“Didn’t you say we mustn’t curse?” Lu Hua Nian said faintly.

Ten minutes later, both husband and wife sat by the bedside and looked at each other. Eventually, after getting over the shock of seeing each other and themselves, they were convinced that they had really changed.

I have found a novel I think I’d like to translate, although right now it won’t be possible since I’m like ultra busy, don’t even have time to translate MGCH that much (to not say  at all)… but maybe after the exams, in February, I might have time? Just hope no one will claim it meanwhile…. The title? It’s a secret, not gonna tell 🙃
