Chapter 96 - Go Shopping With Us

"Elder Jiao, does the jade do anything else other than provide a training space?" Lin Yi asked, recalling the countless times the jade's premonition warnings had saved his life. Jiao Yazi was the guy in the jade, and Lin Yi assumed that Yazi had to know something.

"Yes, it provides other functions." Yazi nodded knowingly.

"What functions?" Lin Yi asked excitedly- So Yazi knew, after all!

"But I don't know any details." Yazi started shaking his head as he spoke. "This was modified my my master's master himself, and I've never even put it on before- how am I supposed to know anything? There's probably more info waiting for you after you get past the second gate."

"Probably?"

"Well I've never went through the doors before, how would I know?" Yazi's face told Lin Yi that he didn't know anything, and that Lin Yi should stop throwing questions at him.

"Okay……" Lin Yi was a bit disappointed for a moment, but got over it immediately. He'd made huge progress today, and that was really more than he could bargain for. This better not be a dream…

The sun was up by the time Lin Yi woke- it was probably a couple hours until noon! What a long night's sleep, Lin Yi thought as he stretched on his bed.

"Wait……" Lin Yi suddenly recalled the dream yesterday- the Yazi guy and the jade training space.

He subconsciously patted about his body- his clothes were supposed to have been burnt to crisps back when he made the breakthrough.

But his pajamas weren't damaged at all, exactly as they were before he went to sleep! Lin Yi's heart dropped at the realization- was it truly just a dream?

He was overjoyed to learn that he'd broken through the first stage, and that he could finally get past the doors this opening..! It was just a dream!!

"Kid, only your mind went into the space- of course your clothes are still intact!"

A sudden voice sounded in Lin Yi's head, startling him with a jump. It was Jiao Yazi!

"Elder Jiao, is that you?" Lin Yi asked.

"Of course it's me." Yazi replied. "You don't need to speak aloud when talking to me, just think your thoughts out."

"Like this? Can you hear me, elder?" Lin Yi asked without moving his lips.

"Yes." Yazi answered crisply.

"Elder Jiao, why didn't you tell me about the training space earlier if we could do this telepathy thing all along?" Lin Yi asked, curious.

"That's because we couldn't- you have to enter the training space before I can make a mental connection with you." Elder Jiao hmphed. "And to do that, I need you to first connect yourself with the space. Did you think the jade's still with you?"

"Huh? Isn't it?" Lin Yi asked as he patted at the jade in front of his chest, only to feel nothing- the jade was gone! "Elder, where's the jade?!"

Elder Jiao couldn't help but smirk a bit at Lin Yi's panicked voice. "The jade's established a direct bond with you already- it's merged with your body, and recognized you as its master. No one will be able to take the jade from you anymore, though you could pull it out of hiding and summon it out with your will."

"Oh?" Lin Yi listened interestingly- so the jade even had a function like that? He could just think about pushing the jade out if he wanted to, according to the elder.

Lin Yi tested it out, and sure enough: the jade reappeared in front of his chest. Lin Yi let out a breath of relief as he held onto it through his pajamas- he'd been wearing the thing for almost ten years! Seems like he needn't worry about the jade missing from now on.

Lin Yi had made sure to keep the jade out of sight after finding it, not showing it off or letting anyone see it. It didn't look like a valuable gem or anything, but he worried about someone snatching it off his chest all the same.

Last night's events weren't a dream, and Lin Yi started his day with an especially good mood with that in mind. He couldn't be happier for finally breaking through the first stage.

He went to the bathroom and washed his face, brushing his teeth clean before exiting the room. Mengyao and Yushu were awake already, watching some cartoons in the living room.

Mengyao only glanced at Lin Yi as he walked out. She thought of saying something to address what had happened yesterday before deciding otherwise, turning her eyes back on the cartoon instead.

Chen Yushu, on the other hand, turned her focus onto Lin Yi as she waved at him. "Yo, Shield Guy! Wanna go shopping with me and Yao Yao later?"

"Me?" Lin Yi asked, stunned as he pointed at himself.

"Yeah, help us carry our stuff." Yushu nodded.

"Can I not go?" Lin Yi said, smiling bitterly as he thought about it- carrying bags didn't seem like a very favourable job…

Yushu only coughed a bit at the response. "Tissues…"

"Ugh……" Lin Yi couldn't take this anymore- when was she gonna drop that? Was she gonna be using that magic word for life?

"Did you catch a cold, Shu?" Mengyao asked as she got Yushu some tissues from the coffee table. The girl was coughing and asking for tissues, after all.

"Huh?" Yushu decided to take the tissues and cough into it a bit as she stuck out her tongue- Mengyao clearly misunderstood.

Lin Yi looked pretty smug as he watched Yushu pretend to cough. He shook his head before going back to his room to change out of his clothes.

His mission, after all, involved guarding Chu Mengyao from danger, at least until the real assignment was given to him. It made plenty sense for him to be following along if Mengyao wanted to go shopping.

Li Fu had breakfast delivered by the time Lin Yi came back out again. The hotel chefs had prepared some egg meat porridge, and a couple of clean pickles.

Lin Yi helped set the table up before Li Fu picked up yesterday's food containers and left. Mengyao and Yushu then turned the tv off as they made their way into the dining area.

Mengyao curled her lips as she saw Lin Yi turning to walk away from the table- she wanted to invite him to eat together, but stopped herself at the last minute.

"Shield Guy, wanna eat together? We still have to go shopping you know, we can't just wait for you to have breakfast right?" Yushu said to Lin Yi as Mengyao hesitated.

Hey! Mengyao was a little displeased- she was supposed to do it! She'd even wanted to be kinder to Lin Yi as a gesture of goodwill for what she did yesterday, but… She decided to let it go after some thought- she was Lin Yi's employer, after all! Why should it be her trying to make up with him, he should be the one to do so!

Mengyao nodded in agreement internally- It was fine this way.

Chapter 97 - Gradually Getting Used To It

"Okay." Lin Yi had just broken through the first stage after all those years- there was no second stage ready for him to train just yet, but he was in high spirits nonetheless. It was a big boulder off his shoulders.

Yushu pulled out three bowls from the disinfector cabinet, and Lin Yi filled all three up swiftly with porridge. He took a look at the seats, and decided to settle with sitting on Yushu's side. The girl was weird, but Lin Yi found her to be much more approachable than the Miss- there was a secret between them, after all. It was a secret Yushu threatened him with, and it was even a misunderstanding in the first place, but it did get the two closer to each other.

Mengyao and Yushu were gentle and quiet as they slurped their porridge, but Lin Yi didn't care about stuff like that. He'd learned and practiced table manners before, but he didn't really feel inclined for it back home. There wasn't any time to be classy when in the North African war jungles, as well- nobody had time to waste on that. Even the girls on the team finished their food with two or three gulps; there honestly was no telling when the next rocket launcher would be fired at them.

"Isn't he worried about choking..?" Mengyao commented, curling her lips as Lin Yi finished two bowls in no time at all before walking back to his room.

"Well, boys, you know? They all eat fast." Yushu said, not minding something like that at all. "My brother eats that fast too when he comes home."

Mengyao nodded in understanding- the military wouldn't let you be luxurious with your meal time, that was for sure; what if the enemy attacked when they were in a warzone? But Lin Yi wasn't a soldier, what was with the haste?

Lin Yi, on the other hand, was occupied with some thoughts of his own, not bothering to listen to the two girls commenting on his eating speed. When should he send Huaijun the medicine?

He'd planned on doing so today, but that was obviously off the table with Yushu threatening him to go shopping with them. Lin Yi decided to save it for some other day- Huaijun wasn't gonna die anytime soon, anyway. He did give him something to deal with the pain the last time they'd met, after all. The guy could take it.

Lin Yi took out the bank card Li Fu had prepared for him upon returning to his room. He was planning on getting himself a laptop- he'd have much more accessibility to medical information that way, and he wouldn't need to go all the way to the library anymore.

Lin Yi applied some medicine he'd grinded the other day before re-bandaging the wound. He didn't think it was necessary to go back to the hospital anymore- the nurse from yesterday didn't really sit well with him. His own medicine was much better than the ones the hospital provided him, too.

Lin YI took a look around his room- there wasn't anything else he needed to bring. With that, he walked out the room and saw Yushu and Mengyao all dressed up. The two even had the exact same dresses and handbags, and their hairstyles were almost identical, as well. The two looked like complete sisters.

They had clearly put more effort to make themselves prettier, compared to when they were in school- probably because of all the flies they were already attracting. The two were going out shopping on a weekend today, however, and they didn't need to restrict themselves as much.

"Eh? You're wearing that?" Yushu's mouth opened wide with shock as she pointed at Lin Yi's school uniform. She thought the guy was gonna change into some outing clothes when he got back to the room, not expecting Lin Yi to come out wearing school uniform again.

"Yeah, what's wrong with that?" Lin Yi found the school uniform to be very high quality, as expected of the best school in the city- there were quite a bit of luxury brand clothes that weren't even a match.

"Don't you think… that your outfit doesn't match with ours at all?" Yushu put a hand over her mouth to contain her laughter at Lin Yi's reaction- the guy was acting like it was normal to wear a school uniform outside during a weekend.

A thought crossed Mengyao's mind. "Lin Yi, did Uncle Fu not give you any other clothes other than the school uniforms?"

"Nope." Lin Yi said with a shake of his head. "The only other one is the clothes I came wearing."

"The clothes you came wearing?" Mengyao blinked as she recalled the image Lin Yi bore when they first met... … Yellowing singlet… muddy brown pants…… "It's fine, just wear that one. You can just buy something more appropriate later- you're my follower, you know! Look the part."

Mengyao decided to buy him a couple sets of clothes later- the school uniform was weird, but it was way, way better than that other set the guy had.

"Kay. I'll follow you guys from really far away- no one's gonna tell that we're together." Lin Yi nodded compliantly.

"......" Mengyao didn't know what to say. No one said anything about following from far away… What's the point of going out together then? Mengyao's personality, naturally, disallowed her to say something like that to Lin Yi. She didn't understand- everything involving Lin Yi after he butted into her life was a total mess! It was indeed quite troubling.

Lin Yi didn't see Li Fu's Bentley anywhere upon exiting the villa. He was wondering how they'd get to the mall when Mengyao opened the garage door with a remote- there was a S5 Audi in there, of the A5 variant, a little less eye-catching than the A5 one.

Lin Yi didn't expect Mengyao to have her own car- he'd assumed that she didn't even know how to drive, since it was Li Fu driving her everywhere.

"You drive." Mengyao said as she dropped the keys in Lin Yi's hand.

"Me? But I don't have a driver's licence yet…...." Lin Yi always drove without a licence, but that was when he was on missions or out killing people… Not having a licence was the least of his concerns.

Mengyao frowned at the words. "Get Uncle Fu to prepare one for you- it'll be really inconvenient for us whenever we go shopping again."

"Haha, he's working on it already." Lin Yi replied with a smile. Mengyao was starting to accept him, it seemed, completely different from how violently she reacted a few days ago. Her words implied that she expected Lin Yi around in the future, after all.

"Sit at the back then, I'll drive." Mengyao said, pointing at the back seat of the car.

The S5 was a car with only the front doors, and one had to get to the back through the front seats. It was inconvenient, but it was no trial at all for someone like Lin Yi. He jumped in smoothly after pushing the front seat a bit.

Mengyao didn't add anything else as she got into the driver's seat. Yushu got in through the other door, and the two fastened their seatbelts before Mengyao started the car. The girls didn't seem like rich kids who raced around for thrills, Lin Yi thought as the car left the villa.
