After those men left without looking back, the woman who was almost half-dead opened her eyes slowly. Her eyes were already lifeless like a dead fish, but one could still see the stubbornness inside of it as she stared at the sky, not caring that she was naked and dying.

"F-finally..." The woman whispered.

Finally, it was over.

She tried to stand up by trying to move her elbows to propel herself upward but she was unable to lift her arms, even as simple as breathing was very taxing for her. Her four limbs were twisted in a weird angle, making her look like a filthy broken doll that was thrown away and was abandoned ruthlessly.

The woman knew that she could no longer be saved. Even Buddha or any other gods couldn't save her.

She was dying.

Since it was already too late, she could only lay on the ground and wait for King Yama's[1] entourage to come and bring her to the underworld.

As she could feel the life inside her slowly wane, her eyes flashed with hatred.

Her laughter contained all the hatred she felt for those people who plotted against her... those people who pushed her to her death.

When she sensed that her eyelashes were getting heavier, making her want to close her eyes and sleep forever, she heard footsteps coming closer towards her.

XuanRong remained lying on the ground, waiting for the owner of those footsteps.

She no longer had any strength to speak.

She no longer had any strength to remain conscious.

She no longer had any strength to defend herself...

XuanRong could only wait--- wait for her end.

She was already half-dead, so she no longer feared death.

She was already defiled many times, so she no longer felt humiliated being seen naked.

All that she wanted was to end this miserable life she had.

If the owner of those footsteps harbored ill intentions towards her, she could only accept her fate. Besides, after what she had experience a while ago, she no longer cared for everything.

XuanRong remained lying naked on the ground, not caring that someone was approaching her half-dead body. A black-clad man emerged from the innermost part of the forest. His steps were even and unhurried. Together with his subordinate, they walked towards her.

"My Lord[3], this guniang[4] is still breathing."

XuanRong heard someone spoke but she was already weak and her senses were not functioning properly, thus, she couldn't hear them clearly.

"Can she still be saved?"

"This subordinate is afraid that it's already too late. Her body is already broken beyond repair. Her... her lower half has been destroyed completely and it was already bleeding profusely. We could no longer do anything but wait for her death and bury her afterwards."

The man's subordinate once again glanced at the woman who was already knocking at the door's death and inwardly shook his head.

They were coincidentally passing this area when they saw a woman lying on the ground, naked and dying.

Another poor soul who was unable to escape her fate.

The man walked towards XuanRong and crouched on the ground beside her. XuanRong felt that someone wrapped a tick cloak around her body. She could smell a faint lotus fragrance coming from the thick cloak, making her feel calm and at ease.

The man said as he slowly stood up after covering her naked body with his own cloak. After a few steps, the man paused from walking away and turned his head towards her.

In your next lifetime, do not let others hurt you and trust no one but yourself. Human nature is very fickle and devious. You have to protect yourself in order to survive in this kind of world."

The man was uncertain whether the woman who was lying on the ground heard his words or not but he still tried to give her a piece of advice. He, himself, was not a good person and he was usually indifferent to other people's misfortune but when he stared at the dying woman who was stubbornly trying to remain conscious, an unexplainable emotion suddenly emerged inside his heart.

At the very end of her last breath, XuanRong forced her eyes to open up so she could see the man who gave her warmth. As she was starting to lose her consciousness, she saw a pair of phoenix eyes staring back at her and a white jade carved with a flying dragon soaring above the sky hanging on his hips.

XuanRong managed to whisper, "T-thank you.." before she slowly closed her eyes and stopped breathing.

A sharp pain assaulted her brain when she opened her eyes. She could not help but groan as she raised her hand to grab her head. XuanRong felt like she had woken up from an endless dream.

A very horrible dream. She dreamed of her life--- her life that was full of misery. Her father disowned her, her sister schemed behind her back, her lover betrayed her and threw her in the abyss of torture, her maternal family was framed and killed... and she was...

She was humiliated..

She was tortured like an animal..
