The Reluctant Bride Book II Chapter 29.1

Gu Jiao Wu held Chu Da’s necklace.

Why did Li Lam have Chu Da’s necklace? Gu Jiao Wu didn’t believe Chu Da would give another person the birthday gift he gave Chu Da.

Gu Jiao Wu was frustrated he didn’t know where Chu Da was. He called an assistant to secretly follow Li Lam. If Li Lam had Chu Da’s necklace, it meant Li Lam would have seen Chu Da in the last four years.

Gu Jiao Wu hung up the phone and smiled at the beautiful photo on the phone. He took a photo of Xiao Bao sleeping at the hospital. At that time he thought Xiao Bao was a sleeping angel sent to him, and he took a photo of his little angel. He wasn’t a sentimental person. But the moment Xiao Bao was born, he was in awe and wanted to give Xiao Bao the world.

Gu Jiao Wu put the necklace in the box, picked up his car key and drove to the Qiao Mansion. He missed his little angel.

At the Qiao Mansion, Gu Jiao Wu walked into the nursery and saw Mrs Chu coaxing Xiao Bao to sleep.

‘Let me hold Xiao Bao,’ Gu Jiao Wu said and carefully picked up Xiao Bao.

Mrs Chu felt uncomfortable letting Gu Jiao Wu hold Xiao Bao. Qiao Tan Yuan instructed her not to let Gu Jiao Wu near Xiao Bao and Qiao Tan Yuan.

‘Waah, waah…’ Xiao Bao cried.

Gu Jiao Wu was embarrassed he made Xiao Bao cry again, but he didn’t want to let her go.

‘Mr Gu, give Xiao Bao to me,’ Mrs Chu said.

Mrs Chu didn’t want Qiao Tan Yuan to fire her if Qiao Tan Yuan saw Gu Jiao Wu holding Xiao Bao.

Gu Jiao Wu wasn’t used to holding Xiao Bao. He supported her head, neck and gently patted her back but she wouldn’t stop crying.

‘Mr Gu, you don’t need to hold Xiao Bao,’ Mrs Chu said. ‘You can put Xiao Bao on the bed.’

Mrs Chu was an old woman and had witnessed many different family situations. She suspected Gu Jiao Wu was an irresponsible man who regretted abandoning Qiao Tan Yuan and Xiao Bao.

Gu Jiao Wu’s head knew he should let Mrs Chu hold Xiao Bao or put Xiao Bao on the bed. But his heart didn’t want to lose the feeling of Xiao Bao’s warmth in his arms.

‘Big brother?’ Shen Cheng called. ‘What are you doing here?’

‘To see Xiao Bao,’ Gu Jiao Wu said.

Gu Jiao Wu was preoccupied coaxing Xiao Bao to stop crying so he didn’t register the panic in Shen Cheng’s voice.

‘Tan Yuan asked me to carry Xiao Bao to her room,’ Shen Cheng said. ‘Big brother, give me Xiao Bao.’

Gu Jiao Wu held Xiao Bao closer to his chest. ‘Shen Cheng, Xiao Bao is my daughter.’

‘Big brother, Xiao Bao is Tan Yuan’s daughter,’ Shen Cheng said. ‘Xiao Bao has no relation to you. Give me Xiao Bao.’

Gu Jiao Wu was taken back by Shen Cheng’s disrespectful tone of voice. Then he quickly composed himself and gently patted Xiao Bao’s back.

‘Shen Cheng if you want to be with Tan Yuan, I’m not going to interfere,’ Gu Jiao Wu said. ‘But you shouldn’t interfere in my relationship with Xiao Bao.’

Shen Cheng didn’t want Gu Jiao Wu to keep appearing in front of Qiao Tan Yuan.

‘Big brother, I don’t want to talk about how you treated Tan Yuan,’ Shen Cheng said. ‘But Xiao Bao is Tan Yuan’s daughter. I hope you can let go of Xiao Bao and Tan Yuan.’

‘What did I do to Tan Yuan?’ Gu Jiao Wu asked.

‘You mentally abused her,’ Shen Cheng said. ‘Now Xiao Bao’s born, you think you’re entitled to raise Xiao Bao. You’re too much.’

Gu Jiao Wu thought what Shen Cheng said was laughable. He tried holding Xiao Bao in a different position and gently patted her shoulders but she cried louder.

‘Big brother, give Xiao Bao to me,’ Shen Cheng said.

Shen Cheng’s heart ached to hear Xiao Bao cry pitifully.

‘What are you going to do if I don’t?’ Gu Jiao Wu asked.

Mrs Chu didn’t care about the tension between Gu Jiao Wu and Shen Cheng. She was worried she would hurt Xiao Bao if she took Xiao Bao out of Gu Jiao Wu’s arms. But if she did nothing, Xiao Bao wouldn’t stop crying.

‘Big brother?’ Tan Pan Ting called.

Even though Tan Pan Ting knew Xiao Bao was Gu Jiao Wu’s daughter, she didn’t expect the cold hearted Gu Jiao Wu liked children and wanted to visit Xiao Bao. She looked at the crying Xiao Bao in his arms and gasped. Did he want to fight Qiao Tan Yuan for custody of Xiao Bao?

Gu Jiao Wu was surprised to see Tan Pan Ting too. Why was Tan Pan Ting standing next to Qiao Tan Yuan?

‘Big brother, Xiao Bao is crying,’ Tan Pan Ting said. ‘Give Xiao Bao to aunty.’

Gu Jiao Wu didn’t want to let go of Xiao Bao.

‘Gu Jiao Wu, let my daughter go,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

Qiao Tan Yuan stood in front of Gu Jiao Wu to hold Xiao Bao but he wouldn’t let go of Xiao Bao.

‘Gu Jiao Wu, you said you won’t steal Xiao Bao,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

‘I’m not stealing Xiao Bao,’ Gu Jiao Wu said. ‘My daughter belongs to me.’

‘You…’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

Qiao Tan Yuan had many unflattering names for Gu Jiao Wu. While Gu Jiao Wu was distracted she took Xiao Bao.

‘Xiao Bao is my daughter,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

Gu Jiao Wu was displeased to see Qiao Tan Yuan, Tan Pan Ting, Shen Cheng and Mrs Chu look at him like he was trafficking children.

Gu Jiao Wu didn’t want to hurt Xiao Bao and let Qiao Tan Yuan hold Xiao Bao. He watched Qiao Tan Yuan gently coax Xiao Bao.

‘Xiao Bao, don’t cry,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said and patted Xiao Bao’s back.

Gu Jiao Wu thought it was strange Xiao Bao stopped crying after hearing Qiao Tan Yuan’s voice. Xiao Bao sniffed her nose adorably. Xiao Bao rubbed her head on Qiao Tan Yuan’s chest like she wanted to drink breast milk.
