The Reluctant Bride Book II Chapter 28.2

On the weekend, Tan Pan Ting’s chauffeur drove her to the Qiao Mansion.

At the Qiao Mansion, Qiao Tan Yuan was surprised to see Tan Pan Ting.

‘Pan Ting, why are you here?’ Qiao Tan Yuan asked.

‘Big sister, aren’t you going to welcome me?’ Tan Pan Ting asked.

‘Of course you’re welcome,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

Qiao Tan Yuan had nothing to do except sleep while Xiao Bao slept. She was happy to have adult company.

‘Big sister, how are you feeling?’ Tan Pan Ting asked.

Tan Pan Ting was relieved to see Qiao Tan Yuan’s complexion looked a healthy rosy pink instead of Qiao Tan Yuan’s sickly pale complexion at the hospital.

‘Um, my body’s recovering,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

Shen Cheng hired a chef to cook Qiao Tan Yuan healthy meals every day. So Qiao Tan Yuan wasn’t surprised her body was recovering quickly.

Tan Pan Ting nodded her head and looked for Xiao Bao. ‘Big sister, where’s Xiao Bao?’

‘Xiao Bao’s nursery is next door,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

‘Big sister, you look happy after you gave birth to Xiao Bao,’ Tan Pan Ting said.

Tan Pan Ting was envious Qiao Tan Yuan didn’t have to carry around a huge stomach anymore.

‘You’ll be happy after the twins are born too,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

‘Big sister, I’m scared to give birth to twins,’ Tan Pan Ting said.

‘Don’t think bad thoughts,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said. ‘Imagine you’re giving birth to two eggs.’

Tan Pan Ting laughed. ‘Big sister, I realised you have a unique sense of humor.’

Eggs? How could Qiao Tan Yuan compare two babies to two eggs? Tan Pan Ting laughed too much that the twins kicked her stomach.

Tan Pan Ting rubbed her stomach. ‘The twins kicked me. They’re protesting that they’re not eggs.’

‘How dare they kick their mum?’ Qiao Tan Yuan asked affectionately. ‘The twins are restless eggs. But you’ll feel blessed after they’re born.’

‘Big sister, I can’t wait to see if it’ll be like giving birth to two eggs,’ Tan Pan Ting said.

Shen Cheng walked into Qiao Tan Yuan’s room and found two women laughing.

‘Hello Shen Cheng,’ Tan Pan Ting greeted. ‘You’re not working today?’

‘It’s the weekend,’ Shen Cheng said. ‘You’re not working this weekend?’

‘I’m free this weekend,’ Tan Pan Ting said. ‘I’ll leave and give you two privacy.’

‘Don’t go,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

Qiao Tan Yuan felt awkward being left alone with Shen Cheng.

‘Pan Ting, you should stay for dinner,’ Shen Cheng said. ‘The chef I hired for Qiao Tan Yuan cooks delicious food.’

Shen Cheng felt Qiao Tan Yuan tensed after he held her hand. If Tan Pan Ting wasn’t in the room with them he knew Qiao Tan Yuan would let go of his hand. He thought it was Gu Jiao Wu’s reappearance in Qiao Tan Yuan’s life that affected his and Qiao Tan Yuan’s relationship.

‘I’ll stay because my huge stomach tells me to stay and eat the chef’s food,’ Tan Pan Ting said.

‘Shen Cheng, can you carry Xiao Bao here to let Pan Ting see Xiao Bao?’ Qiao Tan Yuan asked.

‘Um,’ Shen Cheng said and walked to the nursery.

‘Big sister, Shen Cheng is good to you,’ Tan Pan Ting said.

‘Isn’t Gu Jiao Wen good to you too?’ Qiao Tan Yuan asked.

Qiao Tan Yuan didn’t want to think about how much she owed Shen Cheng to repay his love and kindness.

Qiao Tan Yuan was confused. Mrs Qiao was right to lecture her. She wasn’t certain if she should call off the wedding with Shen Cheng. It would be fair on Shen Cheng if she married him.

‘It’s not the same,’ Tan Pan Ting said.

Tan Pan Ting was having Gu Jiao Wen’s children and Gu Jiao Wen was her husband. It wasn’t unusual if Gu Jiao Wen was good to her. But Qiao Tan Yuan gave birth to Gu Jiao Wu’s daughter yet Shen Cheng took good care of Qiao Tan Yuan and Xiao Bao. Then she remembered when Gu Jiao Wen was misled to believe Fei Yan Niao was the father of her children, Gu Jiao Wen still loved her and was good to her. So Gu Jiao Wen was a good man too.

‘What are you thinking about?’ Qiao Tan Yuan asked.

‘What…’ Tan Pan Ting said.

Suddenly Xiao Bao’s cry was heard from the nursery. Qiao Tan Yuan and Tan Pan Ting immediately stood and walked to the nursery.

In the middle of the nursery, Shen Cheng was standing opposite Gu Jiao Wu who was holding a crying Xiao Bao.
