‘If only I had noticed sooner…’

Would things have changed?

Could he have protected her properly?

The scene of her collapsing and coughing up her own blood played in his mind again. She was an infinitely fragile person. He had made that fragile person like that. He couldn’t protect her.

Even though it was something he was able to do with his abilities… he couldn’t.

The rush of shame flooded him and drove him crazy. Trash. Irredeemable trash. Whatever he could call himself, it did not relieve him. His heart continued to beat in an unsteady rhythm.

He was upset. It was painful and sad. If there was a way to turn back time, he would gladly do it. At any cost.

However, as always, humans were never given miracles to make up for the wrongs of the past.

Theodore staggered out of the cold water. Even though his body temperature had dropped quite a bit, he felt fine. It was thanks to his bloodline that gave him an awfully strong vitality. Theodore gave a self-deprecating laugh. He sat down on the bed, not wearing a piece of cloth, and muttered in his blank head,

“Vitality…”

…At that moment, a thought flashed through his mind.

What if there’s a way to give… his own life force to Lily?

If that was possible, she wouldn’t have to be so ill anymore.

Theodore, who had been sitting stunned, jumped up. This was not the time to be idle. He had to do something.

He hurriedly got dressed. He didn’t even dry his hair, but he hardly had the time to pay attention to every detail. One minute, even one second was important.

To save her…

‘I need to meet Derek.’

Theodore came out into the hallway and hurried his steps. It was in the direction of the mage’s lab.

It was my dream again.

The childhood Lily Everett was in front of me. Sneaking out from the gaze of the stern tutor and servants, she was sitting on a flower bed in the backyard, playing with dirt.

“Under the shade of fragrant flowers~ Listening to the song of the lark~”

She even hummed a song in a small voice, made some kind of bread shape with soil and assembled them as cake. She picked flowers, decorated the cake, and took thin twigs and put them as candles.

It was the worst birthday cake in the world. She can’t even light the candle, nor could she even eat it. But little Lily Everett looked at the soil cake with a very proud face.

Closing her eyes slightly, she puckered her mouth like blowing out a candle.

“Happy birthday, Lily.”

The young me smiled brightly. It was a dazzling smile.

I stared blankly at my young face. The fact that I had a time like that felt distant.

The days when my heart was still pure and innocent. When I was still able to cherish the sunlight that penetrated my soul.

What if I had grown up just that way? Perhaps I would have become a very different person. I would not have any resentment piling in my heart, I would not be festering with anger that I couldn’t direct anywhere at all. I would have been able to honestly say what I like and smile like a sunflower in full bloom.

…There was definitely something called a human being’s true character. But in the end, it was their experiences that would build a person. I had become a very different person from that little Lily… And it made me feel a little sad.

“Hey! What are you doing here?!”

“……!”

At that moment, young Lily flinched at the sudden shout. In the next moment, a hand reached out from nowhere and tugged at little Lily’s hair. A scream broke out.

“Kyaaah……!”

“This thing, how dare you wander around? Isn’t it time for you to study now? How much money did Father spend on you? …This lowly girl doesn’t even know grace!”

The owner of the hand grabbing her hair was none other than Hessen. Hessen roared and threw Lily to the ground.

Lily rolled on the ground and was covered in dirt. When she raised her head, there were tears. A thrill of pleasure passed over Hessen’s face seeing Lily.

Hessen did not stop there. He smiled and stomped on the soil cake that Lily had worked so hard to make.

Seeing her cake ruined, Lily eventually cried. Hessen covered his ears at the loud voice and soon kicked Lily squarely.
