The small light was sitting at the head of the sarcophagus.

I nodded and walked towards it. When I stopped in front of it, the small light spoke in a slightly nervous voice.

[ See these writings here? ]

‘…Writings?’

I lowered my head and looked at the spot illuminated by the small light… Just as she had pointed out, there was something written there. However, I couldn’t read the text. It looked like a very ancient alphabet that’s no longer in use.

The same characters that were engraved on Camillus Valentino’s coin.

‘…That coin must be as old as this sarcophagus.’

It piqued my interest. Where in the world did Camillus Valentino get that coin from?

[ Huu, this is making me nervous. Sister, from now on I will read the words written here. Sister should read along too. Then, the being sleeping in this sarcophagus will wake up responding to Sister’s voice. ]

The small light further explained again that “the being” only responds to the voices of living creatures. Since she had already become a ghost, the small light could not rouse the being.

[ Alright then let’s get started! ]

“Yes.”

I nodded gently.

Before long, the small light began to read the writing on the sarcophagus.

Dreams were hereunto born through the advent of the intelligent being with conscious awareness.

I read along with every sentence that the small light dictated. Even I, who pride myself on reading a lot of books, felt unfamiliar with it.

Each and every being that has a soul dreams.

The power of dreams transcends time and space. Yet their providence is left to chaos.

The Eminent Dream is the ruler of all thoughts. The Great Spirit fears it and puts it to sleep. It is only when a contract is formed with an intelligent being that it can thus be awakened.

As thy desire is to have the power to control thy beliefs, wake up the great dream that sleeps herein. However, keep this in mind: Shall the Eminent Dream test thee yet fail, all thy memories and every morsel of thy soul shall be consumed by the Eminent Dream.

The name of this fearful creature that sleeps here…

“…Somnia.”

Finally, the small light overlapped with my voice… I could only read this part, that one word.

Somnia.

It was the name of the spirit of the Eminent Dream.

[ Somnia, the dream spirit, is a legendary being. No one knows if it exists. However, numerous superstitions and scary stories have been passed down from a long time ago. ]

The dream spirit that appears only in legends, together in books dealing with spirits in detail.

‘Is it really… the being inside this sarcophagus?’

The moment I started to have doubts in my mind—

“……!”

The sarcophagus shook greatly, and soon began to crack open. Violet smoke flowed through the gap.

No, not exactly… I thought it might be fog.

[ Sister… Be careful! ]

At the same time as the small light’s voice reached me, the purple fog wrapped around me. The fog shimmered like they were sprinkled with jewel dust or studded with stars. The form itself seemed to embody words such as imagination and unconsciousness.

Perhaps this fog was the physical body of the dream spirit, Somnia.

A subtle whisper came to me, who was frozen in surprise.

Lily.

“……!”

So we meet.

…Yes. I’ve heard this voice before. Back then, in a dream…

“…That was you?”

No. It is me from now on.

The strange voice whispered, at times it sounded like a child and at times like an old person. It was hard to understand. But that wasn’t the only thing I couldn’t understand.

‘The spirits communicate through the human language…?’

Since spirits were pure entities that existed in nature, they communicated through their direct will rather than a language invented by humans.

However, Somnia was speaking the human language.

‘How…?’

Reading my thoughts, Somnia spoke. A smile could be heard from that tone.

Are you curious that I speak your human language? But if you think about it, it’s only natural. Because I am a spirit that was born with the advent of the intelligent being.

“…….”

In other words, Somnia was different from normal elemental spirits… Come to think of it, the book I read also defined Somnia as a special type of spirit.

Everything that thinks, dreams. That’s why I was born. I rule over all dreams and unconsciousness.

And you already met me. All of this has already happened and, at the same time, will happen in the future.
