Chapter 40.2 - Buying her life

Not too far away, an extremely ordinary looking carriage was hidden in an alleyway.

The carriage wasn’t visible from the Ruan residence, but the occupant of the carriage could see what was happening clearly.

The moment Ruan Zhen kneeled, a thin and white hand lifted up the carriage curtain and watched, expressionlessly.

She watched Ruan Zhen’s back as the smile in her mouth grew bigger and bigger.

But her eyes, were just as harsh and cold.

“Eldest miss.” Tang Er appeared in front of the carriage before following Lou Qingwu’s line of sight.

He lowered his voice, “Do we leave now? It seems like the second madam’s going to have to kneel for a while before the Ruan family head’s willing to see her.”

Lou Qingwu looked at his dark eyes, “It won’t be longer than fifteen minutes.”

“How could that be?” Last night, eldest miss had used the “Soaring amongst the heavens” painting to scheme against the Ruan family.

One hundred thousand gold ingots wasn’t a paltry sum and he had heard that the Ruan family head at the time, had been so angry that he fainted.

So even if the second madam knelt for a day, it’d be unlikely that the Ruan family head would see her.

Lou Qingwu smiled but didn’t say a word as she silently watched ahead.

Ruan Zhen definitely wasn’t the type to let herself suffer, so the fact that  she could stubbornly continued to put down her dignity and kneel meant that she had already calculated what would happen next.

Otherwise, according to Ruan Zhen’s scheming mind, she definitely couldn’t allow herself to kneel in front of the Ruan residence at this time.

In another few minutes, the sky would nearly completely be bright and the people walking past the Ruan residence entrance would increase.

Ruan family couldn’t  lose this face and furthermore, if this spread to the palace, the Ruan family head wouldn’t be able to face that type of consequence.

But it was just lacking a bit of something, she just didn’t know how Ruan Zhen would light the fire.

She was really curious about what type of hold Ruan Zhen had on the Ruan family head, to allow for him to protect her to this extent.

To the point where the grand Ruan family head would provide her with so much backing to allow for her to marry into the Lou residence.

She didn’t believe that nonsense about being close siblings because that year, when the Ruan family head climbed up to become the ‘head’, his hands were stained with quite a lot of his other relatives’ blood.

No matter if they concubine-born or legitimate born, the only person who was able to stand peacefully was only Ruan Zhen.

As she expected, it wasn’t long before the fists that Ruan Zhen placed on the ground curled up and the vermillion red entrance gates opened.

A housekeeper like man walked out and said something that Lou Qingwu couldn’t hear to Ruan Zhen.

Ruan Zhen’s face became worked up before suddenly, like she was angry, suddenly stood up and reached into her bosom.

She reacahed in and passed something to the man.

The housekeeper quickly left and very soon later, he came back again.

But this time, he respectfully invited her into the Ruan residence.

Tang Er watched this scene and found it incredibly strange, “Eldest miss, what just happened?”

Could it be that the family head wasn’t angry any more? After all, it was a hundred thousand gold ingots, that was definitely a sum that could shake even a one-hundred year old family.

Lou Qingwu calmly moved her eyes away, “Ruan Zhen seems to have her own bargaining power.”

She temporarily didn’t have time to find out what that bargaining power was.

But it was something that could make the Ruan family head compromise, over and over again.

Could Ruan Zhen really afford to force her brother, Ruan Xiuren like this though? Wasn’t she afraid that her brother would cut off her road permanently?

One hundred thousand gold ingots, even if Ruan Zhen could dodge this time, it would definitely leave a hard to erase mark on the Ruan family’s heart.

Furthermore, the other people in the Ruan family weren’t so easy to get along with either.

They couldn’t not have complaints about this so at that time, would the Ruan family's head side with them or with Ruan Zhen?

But, it seemed like that didn’t have anything to do with her.
