The Struggle of a Young TS Yuki-Onna. Chapter 26

Character cheat sheet. This is mainly for me, and people who took a break from the novel.

Yukiya Kitahara(北原雪哉) now (雪耶): The protagonist. A junior high student, 14, and  now a Snow girl. Short black hair, beautiful pale skin.

Syuuji Kitahara(北原修司): Yukiya's father, and owner of the Snow House.(雪乃亭) Which is located in Hyousei Village(氷清村)

Yukino(雪乃): Yukiya's mother, and is a snow woman/ Yuki Onna.

Hazuki Natsumi(夏美) and Saeki Tomonori(智則): Yukiya's friends and classmates.

Kouko(凍子). The evil young Yuki Onna. Sharp eyes, and long black hair.

My search continued. However I couldn't find any trace of the college students.

The wind and snow are barging me, but thanks to the power of Yuki Onna, I don't feel anything.

I have been using the techniques I learned from my mother to guide me, but it was still not easy to find the routes in this huge mountain.

Rocks, ridges, rugged cliffs, river banks. I found staple locations and searched all around them, but I couldn't find anything.

"Where are they. . ?"

I was out of breath as I knelled down onto the snow.

So far I am just aimlessly running around the mountain.

"It's impossible. Searching for these college students is impossible. The mountain is too big. . ."

I grumbled to myself.

It seems unreasonable for me to expect to find them. First off, if you get lost in a blizzard you won't last for long. And if they are buried under snow I won't be able to spot them.

No, I can't give up. With an attitude like that, I won't find them.

But how do I progress?

Hmm.

I stood and went into deep thought.

Hmm, if I was in a blizzard, I wouldn't be walking. I'd be waiting. . .

So they have to have gone to a shelter somewhere. Or, somewhere near the path. Also they are being hunted, so if I was a hunter what would I do. I guess they  could just go guns blazing. But that wouldn't be useful if they want them alive. So laying a trap would be the best option.

So logically they should be near the path in shelter, and the Yuki Onna would want a place to trap them.

"Oh!"

That hut! The abandoned mountain hut that is slightly off the trekking course.

It was a hut that was built in a place nobody usually goes to, mainly it was used for storage and tools needed for maintenance of the trail.

It hasn't been used in awhile so it is probably in shambles, but it would make sense to use that place as a trap.

Hmm, I remember hearing that there were a few cases of finding victims exhausted in there, and people disappearing around there. . .

Now that I think about it, why didn't it click earlier. That makes the perfect place to lure victims in a blizzard!

I have to hurry.

I started to run once again.

Please get there in time.

I didn't know the exact location, but I have a rough estimate.

But I need to get there quickly.

"Haa. . .Haa. . Ha. . .Hopefully I made it."

After a short while, I found my destination.

Despite the fact I am a snow girl, my endurance is weak. 

"There it is- – -"

The hut was surrounded by snow and trees.

It is in ruins. It's a skeleton of its former self. Looks like it could be knocked down at any moment.

"Uwaaaaah!"

I then heard a man's shout coming from the hut. 

That has to be them!

But does that mean they have already been caught by another Yuki Onna?

I have to get there quickly!

"Haaah. . .Hahh. . ."

I rushed into the ruined hut to find girls dressed similar to me.

Each one was holding a man.

They are attacking the university students!

It was then I remembered something my mother told me.

(They should be Yuki Onnas around the same age as Yukiya. If you were raised up in the mountain, those kids would have been your friends.")

They looked at me with a surprised expression.

"Who? Who is that? Has she always been up here?"

"No, this is the first time I've seen this child."

They stopped their assault and looked at me.

It's obvious they don't know who I am. I guess it would be strange just to suddenly see a new Yuki Onna. But now is not the time.

"Hey, you let them go!"

I shouted clearly through the snow storm.

"What? Who are you demanding? Are you perhaps the child that lives in the village? Hmm, you do reek of humans."

"Ahh, she really does. That village really did taint her. How pitiful."

"Compared to us, you are smelly and ungraceful. How shameful."

Even though they look human, the atmosphere around these girls is somewhat different.

There is no warmth in their eyes. 

It was like their hearts were ice cold.

It's very different from my mother. Even though they should be the same species.

"Anyways, Listen up! Step away from the college students!"

I demanded. However they simply looked at each other and then laughed.

"Us?"

"And why would we do that?" 

They each said, however one of them then let go of their victim and faced me.

"Listen, we're busy right now. So we don't have time to play with you, filthy bitch- – -" 

(TN: she actually says, 薄汚いあばずれ女 and I don't know an accurate way to translate that, but just know it is not a nice thing to say to a woman. Like really mean to say.)

Brilliant grains of frost gathered at the tip of her palms, one of another it began to clump together.

Even in snowy country, I have never seen such diamond clear ice dust.

The ice particles collected more and more, eventually converging into the shape of ice crystals.

She grinned, and then looked directly at me.

Instantly, countless numbers of ice bullets shot towards me.

"Oh no."

I was completely taken off guard.

Like a machine gun they continued in a rapid onslaught 

"Ugha!"

The force of just one knocked me off balance, and when the rest hit I went flying.

With a thump I tumbled away from the hut and through the snow. 

When all was said and done, I was flung thirty meters away.

It hurts and I am disoriented, but I can't give up after coming this far.

I struggled back to my feet to face my enemy.

It was weird coming back to first-person. I had to find ways to describe actions. First person actions are always hard to describe. But it's a fun writing exercise. Anyways, it's fight time. And it seems like they are showing no mercy. Snow gang vs Yukiya. How will she overcome these experienced Yuki Onna? Or will she die trying? They probably wouldn't kill her, but she would get a bad boo boo.

Regardless I look forward to translating the evil talk. I love writing/translating villain dialogue.
