Second Quest (5)

Tch!

Vivian clicked her tongue as she waited and stared at the monsters charging at her.

It was a fox and 2 sunflower monsters.

Although she encountered sunflower monsters first, the fox moved faster so it was already way ahead.

Rawr!

It leaped forward and opened its jaws the moment it got closer.

Pah!

Arrrwww!

Thud!

Vivian roundhouse kicked the fox on the jaw while it was in mid-air and sent it flying to the side before crashing to the ground. And instead of following up with a finishing move, Vivian ignored the fox and ran toward the sunflower monsters.

Whaaack!

She swung her whip against the first sunflower monster’s head and a cloud of pollen and leaves burst in the air before moving to the next.

Whooosh!

This time around, she swung her kitchen knife on the second sunflower monster and decapitated it.

Vivian continued running and stopped after a dozen steps before turning around to face the remaining enemy.

Just as she expected, the fox already recovered from her kick earlier and was charging at her.

She waited for the animal to get closer and step within her attack range.

Rawr!

Pah!

Arrrwww!

Thud!

The fox performed a jump attack once again and Vivian delivered another roundhouse kick to its jaw. And this time around, with the animal still trying to recover from the attack, Vivian rushed over to it.

Pa-craaack!

Arrrwww…!

Thud!

Thud!

Vivian soccer-kicked the animal on the rib, sending it flying in the air and then smashing against a tree before finally landing on the ground.

Under excruciating pain and desperately trying to gasp for air, the last thing the animal saw was a boot hovering above its head and then falling down.

Craaack!

Vivian pulled her leg away and saw the broken and bloodied head of the fox.

She lifted her boot and checked underneath it.

“Wew!”

“Thank God there are no holes or bone fragments stuck!”

Scrape…

Scrape…

She wiped the sole of her boot against the grass because there was a bit of blood and other sticky fluids sticking to it.

The last thing I want is to accidentally slip while I'm running or fighting...

***

Vivian rolled her eyes.

Ugh…!

The time when I’m in a hurry and want the trunk monsters, they’re not appearing…!

She let out a sigh and stared at the monsters charging at her.

It was a group of tiny jumping mushrooms and they were about 5 meters away from her.

My Class is Thief, right…?

How come I don’t have any skills related to Thief other than [Dagger Stab]…?

Wait…!

Did I already have [Dagger Stab] or did I learn it…?

She glanced at the dagger on her left hand.

I can’t remember…

To be fair, Vivian arrived in this world just yesterday without any general knowledge aside from the information written in the letter she received from the Zhey/Zhem God. Not only did she have to gather most and tons of information on her own, but she was also busy leveling up like crazy and finding ways to earn money.

Am I even training correctly…?

She shook her head mentally.

Whether I’m training correctly or not, that doesn’t matter…

What matters right now is that I need to level up as fast as I possibly can and also gather more money…

Oh, they’re finally here…

The tiny jumping mushrooms were now about 5ft away from her.

Ba-squish!

Poink!

Poink!

***

Vivian suddenly stopped and strained her ears.

People…?

She could hear voices.

2 voices…?

Sounds like boys…

Teens…?

Vivian stealthily made her way to where the voices were coming from.

A couple of steps later, she found them but didn’t choose to reveal herself or continue getting closer. Instead, she hid behind a tree and watched them from afar.

***

A boy in his mid-teens wearing a simple set of leather armor and had a short sword around his waist was in a squatting position. He had a Copper I pendant around his neck and was picking up plants on the ground.

“Michel, here,” he said as he turned around and offered the plants on his hand to his companion.

His companion, Michel, was also in his mid-teens wearing a simple set of leather armor. However, instead of a sword, he was carrying a bow and arrow and had a dagger strapped on the side of his waist. He too had a Copper I pendant around his neck.

Michel took the plants and placed them inside a small sack.

“Bruno, we finally have enough Tusha Herbs. We can finally go back and claim the reward.”

Bruno patted the dirt on his hands.

“Yeah. We were lucky today that we found them immediately.”

“Hey there, boys!” a female voice suddenly said.

Both Bruno and Michel immediately held onto their weapons and turned to where the voice came from.

They were caught in surprise for a moment when they saw that it was a beautiful woman in her mid-20s. But when they saw that she had a stick on her right hand and what looked like a kitchen knife on her left, even after they also saw the Copper I pendant around her neck, they became guarded.

Vivian’s lips slowly curled up into a smile.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you boys.”

Is meeting fellow Adventurers that scary…?

“Is there anything we can help you with, madam?” asked Bruno.

Madam…?

Vivian took a second look at the boys…

Well, I am older…

But I’m only 24 though…

Or is it because people in this world have a different outlook about age…?

Although Vivian wasn’t a history expert, she once read in the books that people in ancient times used to get married early. In fact, the term “teenager” was a recent phenomenon that only rose during the modern times. Before that, a human’s life was categorized into 3 phases only: child, adult and old age.

The one on the right is carrying a sword…

Meanwhile, the one on the left is carrying a bow and arrow…

And since I’m a Thief…

The one on the right has got to be a Warrior or Knight while the one on the left has got to be an Archer…

Right…?

“I mean you boys no harm. I simply want to ask you boys a question. What are your Classes?”

Bruno and Michel looked at each other before returning their gaze to Vivian.

“Why?” asked Bruno.

Vivian's face twitched as she fought so hard to maintain a friendly expression.

“I’m a Thief. And as you can see, I’m a Copper I rank just like you. But you boys seem stronger than me so I was curious what were your Classes.”

Bruno and Michel looked at each other once again before returning their gaze to Vivian.

“I’m a Warrior,” said Bruno.

“I’m a Herbalist,” said Michel.

Warrior and Herbalist…?

Hmm...

I want to ask more…

But these boys seem too guarded…

“I see. Thank you and farewell,” she said and then walked away.

Although the eyes of Bruno and Michel were locked on Vivian as she walked away, their other senses were on the lookout to catch anything suspicious that would come their way.

It was only after 5 minutes when Vivian long disappeared into the forest that they decided to relax.
