Primordial Blood Throne: Book 1 Chapter 8 - Vapor Snake Step

Meeting Gu Qing Luo had become the spark of light within Su Chen's dark life.

From that day onwards, Gu Qing Luo and Su Chen became friends and quickly developed into such good friends that they taught each other everything. However, they hid this relationship between themselves. No one else knew.

This was because Gu Qing Luo is a noble visitor of Lin Family.

The Lin Family is one of the four great families of Lin Bei City, as Lin Bei City is a small frontier city with barren land, therefore, most powerful families are unwilling to gather in this place and so, allowed the four Blended Blood Families to become the leaders of this area.

Despite being a remote and desolate place, it was still filled power struggles.

Between the four great families, no one was willing to give in to each other, there was constant dissension among them; and for the sake of dominating Lin Bei, they would use whatever means necessary.And so, the relationship between them was obviously not pleasant.

Gu Qing Luo was an esteemed guest of the Lin's and naturally wasn't suited to be close with Su Chen.

Yet the nature of being young is to rebel. The concept of weighing the clan's interest and to view things in a larger picture was still too far and foreign for a fourteen year old girl, and therefore she wasn't willing to think too much about it, rather, to follow one's nature and interest was the normal thing to do.

In the eyes of Gu Qing Luo, Su Chen was a calm, gracious, and gentle and considerate boy.

This type of disposition normally greatly appealed to women, especially when compared to the fickle and impatient temperament of boys the same age. To her, Su Chen felt more matured, like a crane standing among chickens.

Although his eyes had been blinded, but his heart was exceptionally bright.

When spending time with Su Chen, Gu Qing Luo did not feel as if she were taking care of a blind man, but on the contrary, felt as if Su Chen was the one who's taking care her.

Because of this, Gu Qing Luo could not be bothered about the disputes, or what not, between the families. She just wanted to be herself and become friends with Su Chen.

Of course, it was only limited to friendship..

Most of the time, it was Gu Qing Luo that came to the Su Family's back mountain to find Su Chen. The scenery was beautiful here and the location was also remote, making it difficult for people to discover it. The mountain spring was refreshing and very suited for bathing. Since the first time she experienced the water here, Gu Qing Luo has started to like the mountain spring, therefore, she would quite frequently come to this place for a bath. Since Su Chen was blind,he became the best candidate for sentry duty.

This became another joy in Su Chen's life - leaning beside a tree, listening to the sounds of splashing, and imagining the different postures Gu Qing Luo made as she bathed.

Today was the same as before.

Su Chen sat on a large rock on the river bank.

The wind moved, a single leaf floated down behind Su Chen.

At that Su Chen looked back, but faced the left side of his body and said: "Over here?"

The form of Gu Qing Luo appeared, clapping her hands with a smile and said, "You won again."

Guess where I am, was a game between the two that has been continuing till even today.

However, most of the time, Su Chen was the one that lost. After all, when someone was deliberately hiding themselves and not making any noise, no matter how sharp Su Chen's ears were, it would be hard to notice.

Despite that, Su Chen did not feel discouraged, he continued to persist and play the game with Gu Qing Luo, and as time went by, his success rate of guessing Gu Qing Luo's position had improved.

Gu Qing Luo asked, "Hey, how did you do it? You have guessed correctly for three consecutive days. I already did my best to keep my movements quiet."

"It's the air flow and heartbeat." Su Chen replied: "You can hide your steps but you are unable to obstruct your heartbeat, your presence will also affect the surrounding air flow. If you can detect these, you will be able to sense something approaching."

"You have reach this level already?" Gu Qing Luo is shocked.

"This is thanks to your help over this period." Su Chen smiled.

Gu Qing Luo rolled an eye at Su Chen, "What's the use of thanking me? This is all your own effort." Unfortunately Su Chen was unable to see her eyeroll. Throwing a coquettish glance at a blind man has no effect.

Gu Qing Luo was already heading towards the pond, and within moments, thee sound of water was heard as she started bathing.

Although blind, Su Chen did not casually approach the water pond.

He continued to sit and listen.

It was unfortunate that the noise could only tell him the location of his target but was unable to transmit their looks.

He would forever never get to know how Gu Qing Luo looked like, and even more, would never get to know how beautiful her form will be when the water touched her skin.

A small melancholy began to well up within his heart, an emotion of sadness filling his chest.

Although he had never given up, but from this, who could guarantee that they could still be strong? There were times during his midnight dreams, where his shirt was filled tears.

That weak state of mind only appeared for an instant before it was suppressed by Su Chen.

No matter what happened, he stayed strong. He could not fall.

The world can abandon you but you can never abandon yourself!

Gu Qing Luo's voice came, "Su Chen, I heard that it will be your Su Family's year-end evaluation soon?"

"Yes." Su Chen lightly replied.

"I heard that the vote for reform passed, the winner of the evaluation must accept at least one challenge to be recognized?"

After staying in the city for a few months, Gu Qing Luo was no longer as ignorant as she was when she first arrived. Regarding matters about Su Chen and his family, Gu Qing Luo had learnt of it for some time.

"Correct." Su Chen replied.

"What will you do?" Gu Qing Luo looked at Su Chen.

Su Chen calmly said, "Just fight one battle."

Just fight one battle?

Gu Qing Luo was stunned.

That was easily said but Su Chen was still blind.

Okay, although his ears can differentiate many sounds but it can never replace the function of the eyes. On the ring, no one will give him the chance to listen to the wind, all he needs is to make a simple error and he will be captured by his opponent and be defeated!

It was hopeless for him.

But Gu Qing Luo never said these thoughts, she was not Su Chen's father, and because of this fact, she was able to understand more about Su Chen and respect him.

She could never insult Su Chen's dream nor shatter his hope.

After some thought, Gu Qing Luo suddenly said, "Then let me teach you Vapor Snake Step."

"What?" Su Chen paused.

Long Xi's Gu Family had Three Extremes. Vapor Snake Step is one of them. It was said that this set of movement technique was extremely strange and agile, once used, it's speed was matchless, making it extremely difficult to catch, this was a skill that protected the Gu Clan.

Hearing Gu Qing Luo's words, Su Chen instinctively said, "You must be joking? You can just casually pass on a clan protection skill?"

Gu Qing Luo smiled and said, "Vapor Snake Step is a Bloodline Secret Art. Without the right bloodline, no one is able to display its true power. It isn't a big deal even if you learned it."

In this world, bloodline is the key that determines a person's achievements.

Although after millions of years of development, the human race had established some form of a cultivation system, but still was never able to contend with bloodline inheritance.

A martial artist who trained bitterly for many years, may not be able to defeat an awakened bastard who had eaten and played for countless of years.

The world has never been fair and bloodline inheritance is the most unfair existence in this world.

Gu Family's Vapor Snake Step was also the same.

The skill was affected by two factors, one portion is the movement technique, the other is bloodline inheritance.

Only those that contain the bloodline would be able to display the full effects of Vapor Snake Step; and even if you learned the movement technique, it was just imitating the form. You would never be able to display its essence.

This was also the reason why Gu Qing Luo was willing to teach Su Chen the Vapor Snake Step.

In this world, techniques weren't taboo, bloodlines were!

Of course, even it isn't a taboo, it does not represent that it can be casually taught to anyone without restraint. Therefore, Gu Qing Luo requested Su Chen, that unless it was necessary, avoid displaying this skill in front of others as much as possible.
