"What did you say?"

Under a tree within his courtyard, while Su Chen was sitting on a stone stool and drinking some tea, Jian Xin was at his side reporting.

With a hand holding a teacup, Su Chen's expression was startled yet dull.

Jian Xin helplessly said, "Master says, he hopes Young Master will stop hurting everyone's expectation by continuing to use such a clumsy lie. The year-end evaluation has been set, currently Young Master is unable to see, even if you are beginning to recover, the rules will not change just because of Young Master. If Young Master is not confident, you can choose to dropout from the evaluation, so as not to delay everyone."

Su Chen paused for a while, his grip around the cup tightened slightly, "So father thinks that I am lying to him again?"

"After all, Young Master had made the same declaration last time. With the year-end evaluation approaching, young master's sudden recovery makes it hard for others to believe." Jian Xin emotionlessly replied. Although he cannot see but Su Chen is able to hear the tone of distrust in Jian Xin.

Maybe everyone felt the same, but he did not want to give up, yet he was unable to find a solution and could only use the same words he used for his lies.

Su Chen looked at Jian Xin who is standing in front of him.

In the past, his world was painted in darkness.

But now, with the ability to sense some light, he could 'see' a very blurry image of a person in front of him.

Although he's still unable to see but it was no longer the absolute darkness of the past, most importantly, this gave him hope for a complete recovery.

The funny thing was, when he announced this news, there was no one who believed him anymore.

So be it, so be it.

Since everyone no longer believed in him, then they can wait.

Su Chen thought to wait for the day when he fully recovered before telling anyone about it.

In the following days, Su Chen continued to train.

Practicing the Eight Forms of Body Forging, practicing Blazing Tiger Fist; practicing Vapor Snake Step.

Si Chen hoped to enter the state that he felt before; he suspected that the previous incident was greatly linked to his current recovery.

Even though the rate of recovery was very weak, Su Chen was still able to feel the improvement.

With every passing day, his eyes were turning better than before.

From the earliest ability to sense light, to the ability to see the general shape of things later. Although it was just blurry black shadows, but Su Chen's world was no longer empty and lonely, his future is filled with light.

But before that light arrived, Su Chen needed to experience the period of darkness before dawn.

The day of the year-end evaluation was approaching.

As the old year passes and the new year arrives, the people would celebrate growing another year older*, sending the past away in joy while welcoming the new spring in happiness. The young ones would become even more excited as they prepared to reveal their training efforts during the year-end evaluation - the Su Family was not the only one that would organised a year-end evaluation, most families with a certain level of prestige will perform the activity.

In the Su Family's great courtyard, Su Ke Ji was pointing and shouting at the temporary dueling ring being constructed, his heart is filled with a honey-like sweetness.

Su Ke Ji turned his head and saw Su Fei Hu standing before him, his face is filled with an undisguised loathing.

This is the year-end evaluation, the last person to stand on this stage will be the most exceptional individual of the third-generation, so it is natural for us to build it higher, not only for the members of family but also the whole city must see who is our most outstanding heir."

Su Fei Hu indifferently replied: "for some people, no matter how high they stand, it will still mean nothing."

"You!" Su Ke Ji got angered but chose to turn his head and ignore his brother instead.

The next day, the evaluation officially began.

As per usual, they began to do a cultivation test.

In the centre of the great courtyard is a blank Star Origin Rock, by applying pressure on it, the user's Origin Energy level will be known. Although a Forged Body stage is unable to use Origin Energy to fight, but it did not mean they do not have Origin Energy within their bodies.

Every clan descendant was taught the Basic Absorption Technique from the start of their training, it allows them to absorb Origin Energy and in turn, increase their physique and obtain powerful strength, this is also an entry level technique.

The human race's most primitive mastery of Origin Energy started from this type of technique, which slowly developed into the different stages of an Origin Master such as 'Energy Guiding' to bring in Origin, establishing the inner sea etc.

Along with the shout, the first person was called out from the line. Standing next to the Star Origin Rock, with a palm pressed against it, the Star Origin Rock displayed white colored dots which became clearer bit by bit.

The color represents the purity level of the Origin Energy within the body, the amount represents the level.

White color was the lowest rank; it represents the Forged Body stage.

"63 White Stars, Sixth Layer Forged Body." The evaluator's voice was heard.

The young man called Su Xing curled his lips and walked down the stage.

"Su Yue, 56 White Stars, Fifth Layer Forged Body."

"Su Ling Er, 61 White Stars, Sixth Layer Forged Body."

As the voice of the evaluator resounded, calling each participant to go up the stage and announcing their results, the sounds of discussion filled the area.

As the young girl called Su Ling Er left the stage, a round of powerful applause was given. Although only at the Sixth Layer Forged Body, to be at that level among the third-generations was pretty good performance.

"Su Qing, 71 White Stars, Seventh Layer Forged Body."

An explosion of bustling noises and excitement occurred below the stage, Su Qing proudly stood on the stage, accepting the praises coming from every corner.

To achieve Seventh Layer Forged Body at his age, was indeed something to be proud of.

After inspecting the whole area like a lord once, Su Qing's gaze eventually fell on Su Chen. He revealed a smile of disdain before jumping off the stage.

"Su Chen."

As though it was per-arranged, after Su Qing, it was Su Chen's turn.

Su Chen slowly walked up the stage and stood beside the Star Origin Rock, placing his hands on it.

A sheet of white colored stars shined, causing everyone's eyes to dim their eyesight.

After a while of counting, the evaluator spoke: "83 White Stars. Eighth Layer Forged Body."

There were no sounds of clapping as one would normally expect.

Everyone was just standing in place and silently looking at Su Chen.

While there are some who displayed gazes of compassion and pity, there's also gazes of mocking and sneering, each of those gazes seems to be ridiculing Su Chen, as though saying, "So what if you worked so hard?" "Is there any meaning?" "Do you think you can get first place this time?" "You are just occupying someone else's position!"

When the number one was determined to fall into the hands of Su Chen, the ones that were displeased at Su Chen, was naturally the number two and number three……

He was not only blocking one person's path but was actually blocking the paths of many people.

*(Cuppa: Before modern western influences, old Chinese culture normally determines the increase of a person's age by the crossing of the year instead of using the birth date.)
