He woke up exceptionally early that spring morning.

The flowers had bloomed, creating a sea of light yellow, it's fragrance permeating the air and filling the garden. As the scent overflowed, it immersed the whole of the Su Family like a sea.

Pushing the door open, and deeply drawing in a breath, taking in that delightful scent, Su Chen stepped out of his room and headed to the purple vine tree of his courtyard.

As he casually brewed tea for himself, Su Chen sat down, his movements were as fluid as clouds and flowing water, becoming smoother with ease.

It had been two months since the year-end evaluation.

Su Chen's counterattack naturally had caused an uproar within the family. Su Ke Ji had also exploded in rage; rumour had it that many servants under him experienced various misfortunes. Despite his achievements, Su Cheng An did not see him with good regardsas well, even expressing his displeasure. With the birth of his youngest son, Su Hao, Su Cheng An transferred most of his affection to him and was spending most of his time with the Fourth Concubine. Tang Hong Rui and her husband had been fighting fruitlessly, as well as feeling greatly indignant knowing that her son's blind condition was constantly the butt of criticism, causing her to fall badly ill. Her body became much weaker than before. It was to the point that she was even unable to step out of the house with ease.

Fortunately, the patriarch was still very appreciative of him, however, the more he appreciated, the more regrettable he felt.

It was said that the night Su Chen obtained first again, Su Chang Che shook his head and said, "He is a good child, it's a shame, no matter how excellent he is, it will never be enough – rigidness makes one easier to break."

This was the comment of the patriarch and that also represented his stance - he won't object, he won't support, he will just let things happen naturally.

From that day onwards, Su Chen felt a strange sense of exclusion.

Over the two months, many things changed.

Not everything was bad, though.

There was also some good.

Su Chen's eyes were becoming better and better.

From the initial ability to sense light, he was now able to vaguely see certain objects; and although he was still unable to differentiate things, it was better than not being able to see.

This made Su Chen have a great sense of expectation about his future, even not minding the current attitude of the Su family towards him.

As he was appreciating his tea, Jian Xin walked over, "Young Master, the Fourth Concubine and Mistress wishes to meet you."

"Fourth Aunt wants to meet me?" Su Chen paused for a moment.

After this Lady Yan Wu Shuang of the Spring Moon Pavilion joined the family, he only met her twice – once on the day she joined and the other during the clan's annual fiesta. After that, Su Chen had not been in contact with her since; privately, however, Su Chen did hear some bad comments regarding her.

It was said that the woman was rather shrewd and witty, and long after joining the family, she managed to gain control of the businesses along Jade Belt Street.

Jade Belt Street was the busiest commercial street within Lin Bei City, the Su Family had four shops on that street, all of which were managed by Su Cheng An. However, these four shops were now being managed by Yan Wu Shuang. Apparently, Tang Hong Rui got into a big fight with Su Cheng An because of this, yet nothing changed. The most hateful thing was, the four shops were now flourishing under her management and without any problems. Several big trades had even been completed, shutting the mouths of any gossipers.

This woman was beautiful; knew how to manage a business, had a way with words, and even bore a son in the end. No wonder the Fourth Concubine was greatly doted on.

However, the way that this Fourth Concubine did things was not likeable; it was said that not recently, she sacked the shopkeeper and three experienced shop assistants of Green Jade Workshop, the reason was because they treated her with disrespect. This was a group of old men who have served the Su Family for twenty years, and yet, they were sacked just like that!

Now this said Fourth Concubine suddenly sent him an invite? Even Su Chen was unable to understand what was happening for the moment.

After some pondering, he finally nodded his head and said, "Understood. I will go over now."

After changing into a fresh set of clothes, Su Chen was led by Jian Xin to the abode of the Fourth Concubine.

Yan Wu Shuang was currently seated within, holding a cup in her hands. In front of her was a couple, both of whom were trembling.

Yan Wu Shuang had an oval-shaped face and a pair of slender brows. Overall, she was beautiful, however, there was a poisonous glint within her eyes.

When Su Chen arrived, he heard her putting down her teacup and said, "Logically speaking, since the two of you loved each other, I shouldn't interfere. However, if I let the two of you off easily, won't it mean that estate's rules could be broken whenever someone likes? There are many people working here, if we allow anyone to come and go as they pleased, how can we have a semblance of control? Am I right, Fourth Young Master?"

Seeing Su Chen entering, Yan Wu Shuang casually included him in the last sentence.

Su Chen lowered his head and replied, "Four Aunt is handling her servants; Su Chen has no right to be involved."

Yan Wu Shuang said: "No worries, you can say your piece. If I find it logical, I might adopt your suggestion."

After some thinking, Su Chen replied, "There are many rules within the Su Family, but when it comes to matters regarding illicit relations, there are actually no formal rules set. This is mainly because there are too many factors involved in this and is not easy to be handled. If nothing is done, it will seem permissive, when that happens, the whole estate will be in a mess. Yet, if we handle this too harshly, it will seem that we are breaking up two lovers. Therefore in my opinion, the simplest method, is to manage the portion that belongs to the estate and ignore the portion that does not belong to the estate."

"Oh? How do you differentiate the two portions then?" Yan Wu Shuang said.

"Naturally, their work responsibilities belong to the estate, while their personal relationship does not." Su Chen replied. "In my opinion, if their love is true, then we should not force them apart, rather, we can sack one of them and make them leave the estate. Doing so, the problem of their illicit relations will no longer exist; it will also serve as a warning to others while not breaking a pair of lovebirds, and with that, the matter will naturally be solved."

The two servants kneeling looked at Su Chen in gratitude; if that's how their case is managed, it would be the best possible outcome.

Yan Wu Shuang was stunned, a poisonous aura began to form between her brows. "Well said, but isn't this too light of a punishment? If they are let off too lightly, I'm afraid that others will follow in their footsteps in the future. This will make people say that I am not firm in the way I discipline my servants. In my opinion, each person should receive forty lashes and be expelled from the estate."

Su Chen was greatly shocked, "Aunt, isn't this too heavy of a punishment."

If they were expelled at the same time and unable to find work immediately, they would have no income, what's more, after receiving forty lashes, they might need to stay in bed for at least half a month, making their life even harder.

Yan Wu Shuang glanced at Su Chen and suddenly smiled, "Since the Fourth Young Master has spoken, fine, I will give you face and reduce the punishment to twenty lashes. Drag the two of them out and start the punishment."

Su Chen knew that her order was not only meant to give Su Chen face, it's also to show off her authority. However, her display only made Su Chen feel even more disgusted at her.

After handling the two servants, Yan Wu Shuang leisurely sipped her tea. "I have long heard before that Fourth Young Master is a genius among men, both young and excellent. I have finally seen it today. You are indeed an exceptional young man. Unfortunately, your methods are still too soft and not imposing enough when managing servants. This is also not surprising; a Fourth Young Master who walks the path of the strong and focuses on developing his body, why would he bother to learn the art of managing people?"

Su Chen calmly replied, "Aunt overpraised me. I am a blind man, what path of the strong can I walk? I simply do not wish to give up so easily."

"Well said." Yan Wu Shuang clapped her hands but there is no smile on her face. She said: "If that's the case, if I want Fourth Young Master to give up on some things, I'm afraid it will not be possible."

Su Chen slightly frowned, "I wonder what Aunt is trying to obtain from me?"

Yan Wu Shuang replied: "I must clarify, I am not trying to get anything from you, I am only thinking for the well being of Su Family's property. You must know that the First Wife is constantly sick while your eyes are not good. Although two months ago, you displayed your godly prowess on stage and defeated Second Young Master, but does it allow Fourth Young Master to look and read business accounts? Able to allow you to observe the hearts of men and differentiate the loyal and disloyal? Can it allow you to manage properties without a mistake? Certain things, can only be done by people that can see."

Su Chen paused for a moment before he finally realized something. "So Fourth Aunt is interested in the property managed by my mother."

Yan Wu Shuang corrected: "They all belong to the Su Family and are just temporary being managed by madam. However, madam's body is not well, while Fourth Young Master resolves to walk the road of the strong, why hold on to those properties? Why not let them go and allow me to use my lowly life to labour for everyone? Both mother and son can sit back to enjoy the dividends, and enjoy the rest of their lives in merry."

Su Chen asked: "Did Fourth Aunt speak with my mother regarding this matter?"

"I did, madam has a wilful character and is unwilling to listen. However, you have always been her pride. If you are willing to let go, I believe, madam will respect your decision."

Su Chen understood it now. Yan Wu Shuang must have spoken with Tang Hong Rui about this but was definitely denied, and in the end, she looked for him instead.

Indeed, if Su Chen was to speak with his mother about this, it is likely Tang Hong Rui would agree.

There was one thing Yan Wu Shuang was correct about, though, Tang Hong Rui's current condition was not suitable to manage those properties; and Su Chen was also not suitable, thinking of transferring the management rights since long ago.

However, transferring was one issue, transferring to whom was another.

Yan Wu Shuang was the Fourth Concubine and was solely favoured. Tang Hong Rui definitely disliked her and would transfer the properties to anyone but her.

This woman's thoughts were unexpectedly fierce. The other party did not allow her to take it by force, therefore he was called over to discuss this.

Does she really think that I am an easy target?

Su Chen eyes went into a slight squint..

Drinking her tea relaxingly, Yan Wu Shuang began, "After Fourth Young Master defeated Second Young Master, although your goal had been succeeded, but you have also offended Second Master, and along with him, the people that are supporting him. Over this period, the days of Fourth Young Master must have been exceptionally lonely, right?"

"What is Aunt trying to say?"

"Nothing much, just wanted to say, as a human, you must always have some friends. If you make too many enemies, you will never know when you will get stab in the back."

"So Aunt is trying to say, for the sake of having a bit more friends, I should follow the requests of others? In my opinion, having these kind of friends are not worth making anyway."

Yan Wu Shuang's face changed.

Her tone immediately dropped a few degrees, "Do you know what you are saying?"

Su Chen smiled, "I am saying, my Second Uncle spent three years and failed to force me to lower my head. This is the Second Master who is the direct descendant of the main branch. If he is unable to do so, how can a whore from Spring Moon Pavilion do the same, isn't she indulging in a fantasy?"
