Inferiority Complexes

4 Days ago.

There's only a couple of days left until the birthday of the first Mayor God. This is a event that the most of the hunters wait for, since we can go and have a little rest of everything at the Capital.

I personally don't think that it's a good idea leave the town alone with some low ranking hunters and with only one high rank priest, but the decision was taked with majority so i can't do so much there. Whatever, the civillians know that if something happend the priest has to send the holy eagle. And of course we have to do a daily check on all the town, i know the others are tired, but we have to make them feel safe while we are gone, i have to take all the weird sounds as a posible beast.

"General Wincent, we are almost ready to go."

"Good, after you end, advice the others that it's their turn."

"Yes sir."

-Bzzz-

What was that? Was it my mind? Argh, i should be really tired, i haven't gotten any rest since the Capital gived us the letter of invitation.

-Bzzz-

There is again, it's really not my mind.

"Armand, did you hear that?"

"You can hear it too, general? I thought it was only me."

"We should go check."

"Should i advice the others?"

"Yes. I'll wait for them outside."

Armand leaved the room. The sound was from a bug, a enorumous bug. I a group of beast decided to arrive to the island, we are in problems. We'll had to ask for help at the Capital.

"Sir, everyone is ready for everything."

"Good, we'll split up on two groups of ten people. When we are done we have to gather at the coast."

"Yes, sir!"

The Capital always make the birthdays of the Mayor Gods a very big event, but that also means that they needed a lot of help. Their warriors were busy enough with the burglars that takes advantage from the event, that they needed our help with so they can be aware in case of a mayor attack from anything. That leaved us only 31 warriors. I decided to grab only 20, so in case of anything, there are 11 soldiers that can advice the Capital.

We splited up, i hope it's nothing seriuos, if it is, i think i'll die of sadness, because my soldiers would have died because of my orders.

My group have to go the center. Everything seems to be fine here. We should go to the coast.

"That comed from the cave!!"

We runned to the coast, it was empty. There was no trail of blood on any place, that's good.

I looked to the right, where a little house of a fisherman was, the door was open. When i walked in i feeled something weird down my boats, they were scratches with blood, someone was dragging him outside...or...something.

"Are we going in? Sir?"

"No, let's wait for the other group before doing nothing."

"Alright."

The second group arrived.

There were only three boats, that means only 15 of us can go to the cave, the others five have to stay making guard on the coast. We started with our boat trip. The cave was 5 far from the coast, if anything happend there, we can come to help in no time, that's good.

Before leaving we grabbed some torches, it was already dark, but the God of Protection was helping us giving us the light of the moon. If we have his support then it can't be so bad what is hiding on this cave.

We entered to the cave, a smell of rotten meat maked some of us fall on our knees.

-Bleergh!-

"Armand, are you alright?"

"Ye-Yes, it's just the smell caught me by surprise."

So the thing dragged the fisherman here.

"We have to keep going."

The soldiers wanted to run, they are mid ranks, the other high-rank is Armand. If i die, he as to take the lead until the others come back.

The more deeper we walked more strong the smell was. I looked behind me, my soldiers were pale.

"It's alright, if there's something, we are going to advice the Capital, we are not in conditions for clearing a whole nest of beasts."

I hope that works to make them feel better, but, the worse is that it's actually a reality that i want to avoid.
At the distance we could see a purple light, is that a signal from a god? I've never seen such a thing on this cave. Even if a god is trying to tell us that he's with us, i still need to take caution, i don't want to make a mess that can cost us the live.

I maked a signal to tell my soldiers to walk stealthily. We sneaked to watch what was on that side of the small cave.

"Sir! Those are-"

"Shhh."

Damn, hope they haven't noticed.

Inside the small cave was an impressive amount of eggs, they are insect eggs, the scene was disgusting, but we have to be quiet, if there are eggs here, that only can means we are close from a group. I don't know so much about insects but right now i have to think about the innocent people that could get hurt because of this eggs.

I throwed my torch to them. I looked back at my soldiers.

"Run."

We started running, the sound was a satisfactory to hear, the eggs were small, i still can't understand how a such a loud sound could come out from a little-

-Squeerk!-

I looked behind me.

A...ant?! We have to-

"Ahhh!!! Die you bastard!"

"Armand!"

Armand runned to the ant with his word in hand. I don't know if it was because how small the cave was, but that thing looked so big.

There's no use, the scream of Armand was loud enough like to alert the whole nest. For now, we have to resist.

"Attack!"

We runned to Armand to help him.

Good, it was more easy than i thought.

"It's now or never, we have to get out of here NOW."

"Yes, sir!"

We started running, we could heard at the distance loud whirs, we have to hurry.

I can see the-

"AHHH!!!"

Armand? I stopped running. There was no one behind me. How? In what moment?

I have to get out of here now. I'm sorry, Armand, i'm sorry everyone...

I runned to the boats.

When i comed back the soldiers looked at me with sadness. They already know what happened.
They walked back at their homes, but i walked back at the Central.

I letted my body fall like a corpse on the bed. A big feeling of inferiority passed though my body, i'm a horrible person, i don't deserve such a high rank.

"N-No, their death were inavoidable, it's not my fault...it's not my fault...I won't throw away more worthy lives."

When the day arrives, i'll advice the Capital what happened here so they can give me asistence.

For now, if a bug comes to the town, i'll use all my forces to destroy him, i'll protect this town no matter what.
