   Chapter 47 Feather Has Spread

Feng Gui was tired when he returned home at night. Yun Canglan had dinner ready. She greeted him at the gate with a gentle smile.

"Gui, have you had dinner? Father and mother have eaten, " she said.

Just a look at Yun Canglan's pretty face made Feng Gui's exhaustion disappear. "Yes. How about you?" He smiled back at her.

Yun Canglan shook her head. "No. I want to have it with you, " she lied. She had already eaten.

Feng Gui felt guilty, "Sorry, Canglan. I have been so busy recently that I am unable to keep you company. I promise I will have dinner with you every night once I'm free."

Yun Canglan smiled shyly, "I will wait for you." It was supposed to be their farewell dinner.

While they were talking, Chu Qing entered the courtyard with two servants. She walked up to Feng Gui with a smile but got angry when she saw the cold food on the table. "Since your husband has come back, you should have re-heated the food. How can you offer him cold food?" she addressed Yun Canglan.

"Gui works hard every day to provide you with the beautiful dresses you wear and the delicious food you eat, " she cursed. "And look at you, you didn't even bother to heat the food for him. What if he gets sick after eating the cold food?" Chu Qing glared at Yun Canglan in disgust. As far as she was concerned, Yun Canglan was inferior than her two servants also.

Yun Canglan stood aside listening. Yun Qin and Yun Qi, who stood not far away, scowled at Chu Qing but didn't dare do anything without the permission of their mistress.

Feng Gui observed the entire scene, felt overwhelmed, but didn't know what to say.

"Don't feel superior just because you married Gui. You are just a bitch from nowhere, and your pretty face is useless. Gui doesn't need a prostitute for a wife. You'd better stay in the courtyard and not go outside. Don't wink at the servants. We're a wealthy and influential family. I don't want others to gossip and say that we have a foxy daughter-in-law, " continued Chu Qing.

Yun Canglan looked at Chu Qing with cold and bloodthirsty eyes.

'You can curse me, but it's getting too much. Bitch, you will soon know what a real slut is, ' she thought.

Noticing the change in their mistress, Yun Qin and Yun Qi joyfully thought that she would not endure anymore. Just when they were about to teach Chu Qing a lesson, the steward rushed into the courtyard. He immediately knew what had happened, judging from the sarcastic ridicule of Chu Qing and Feng Gui's silence.

The steward took a quick look at Yun Canglan and walked up to Feng Gui and Chu Qing whispering something. Hearing what he said, Feng Gui trembled with a vacant look on his face, while Chu Qing pulled the steward excitedly as she wanted to leave immediately.

Seeing Chu Qing and the steward departing the courtyard, Feng Gui also started walking away but stopped suddenly. Looking at Yun Canglan, he said, "Canglan, go to bed early. I have to deal with something."

Yun Canglan raised her head again and forced a gentle and thoughtful smile. "Okay. I'm waiting for you here. Come back soon." After he came back, they would bid farewell to each other.

"Gui! What are you doing there? Hurry up!" Chu Qing excitedly urged Feng Gui.

He turned and left with Chu Qing reluctantly.

Soon, Yun Canglan, Yun Qin, Yun Qi, as well as the fascinating man, who had appeared like a ghost, were the only ones left in the courtyard.

He looked quite charming in his red dress, as joyous as a wedding dress, and a sly smile.

Suddenly tired, Yun Canglan decided to put an end to all this.

Lei Tianyan, the man in the red dress, slithered up to Yun Canglan like a snake to seduce her. "Lovely, your husband has left for another woman, " he said in a soft, cooing voice.

Yun Canglan raised her eyebrows and fixed him with a cold stare. "And I date another man in response. Well, you are androgynous." she mocked.

"You knew who I was last night, right? Why not have another try to find the truth out tonight?" Lei Tianyan teased.

Yun Qin and Yun Qi rolled their eyes at what they heard.

"Forget it, " Yun Canglan waved her hand, blushing. "Yun Qin, tail Tan Yueyue and ensure that she delivers smoothly. Yun Qi, pack things up. We'll leave early tomorrow morning. Lei Tianyan, go anywhere else you like."

"Okay." Lei Tianyan turned and pushed open the door of Yun Canglan's room.

"What are you doing?" Yun Canglan asked.

"Planning to get some sleep, " said Lei Tianyan smiling innocently.

"That's my room."

"So? I want to sleep here."

"It's not the full moon night."

Lei Tianyan's face convulsed with the helplessness he felt at Yun Canglan's words.

The enchanting man in red blew a cloud of peach blossom fragrance and disappeared from the courtyard.

"Mistress, there is one more over there, " said Yun Qin pointing to a lonely man standing on the roof.

He had already got used to it. He sighed thinking that his mistress really wanted to ignore the man, but he just stood there. Probably, a rumor that a crazy man was seen on the roof of the Feng's daughter-in-law would spread soon.

Alas, Yun Qin and Yun Qi were just like flyswatters. They always needed to keep an eye on those men around their mistress. Did it mean that their mistress was like shit. Oh no!

Yun Canglan looked up lazily to where Yun Qin had pointed.

"Mister Wu Hen, why do you stand at such a high place? Could you please come down? My neck hurts just looking at you." Since childhood, others had looked up at her, while she stared down and spat at them.

Shui Minghan excitedly jumped down from the roof and stood in front of Yun Canglan. His black robe made him look cool, capable, and attractive.

"It's late. Why were you standing there?" Yun Canglan joked. "Were you checking if the roof leaked?"

Shui Minghan looked sad. "Canglan, look my feather has spread." Yun Canglan knew ten years ago that he had a feather. Shui Minghan knew the prophecy of the Fire Phoenix's feathers and later learned that Yun Canglan was the Fire Phoenix without feathers and that she had been looking for her feathers; men with feather birthmarks.

Yun Canglan told Shui Minghan that the feathers of those who opened their minds to her would spread on their own. He had waited for ten years and was jealous of the androgynous man whose feather had spread when he had first met Yun Canglan ten years ago.

Shui Minghan eagerly raised his right hand like a child for Yun Canglan to inspect. A blood red feather on his wrist spread under the bright moonlight, but he was disappointed.

Yun Canglan glanced at it indifferently.

His feather had spread, but she didn't really care about it.

"Well, it does look good, " she said.
