   Chapter 40 The Nine Prominent Figures in the World

Three years later

Across the two continents, through all seven kingdoms war was ever-present. The conflicts between them intensified, and the seven kingdoms were unable to find common ground with each other.

Nine notable figures emerged during these troubled times.

The Nine Prominent Figures in the world inspired a craze throughout the seven kingdoms. Instead of wealth or fame, they immersed themselves in kung fu training while traveling extensively. The royal courts favored them, and women admired them greatly.

They became more famous than the four recluses of legend.

Mister Night Phoenix headed up the prominent nine. Although Night Phoenix always maintained a low profile, it was fourteen years ago that his first masterpiece instigated a fight in the seven kingdoms, bringing him fame. Six years ago he was eclipsed by Yao Xi, and the Night Phoenix vanished.

Two years ago, the Chi Kingdom of Fire Continent conspired with the Jin Kingdom of Water Continent to strike the Can Kingdom from two sides at once. The Can Kingdom sent the Huguo General Yun Yajun and Shenyong General Xue Ying to face the opposition but they took substantial losses. When the world thought the power was about to change in seven kingdoms, the elusive Mister Night Phoenix emerged and overnight terminated war between the three kingdoms. In order to find his trail, the royal courts of the seven kingdoms bought the Know-all and the Buye Tower, both of which made their money selling news. What their efforts brought them was only, "He cuts a fine figure of a man dressed in red. His White Jade Fan makes jianghu quiver with fear. His hairpin will save the world. The Medical Sage and Poison Sage devotedly accompany him."

The Medical Sage and Poison Sage gained world fame because they could grow flesh on dead bones, make the dead come back to life and remove toxins easily. The public learned the Medical Sage rarely saved lives, and the Poison Sage were busy creating toxins. It was said that the Poison Sage could create all kind of toxins, and could also remove all kinds of toxins. Night Phoenix's notoriety and power grew, for, despite the arrogance of the Sages, they attended him.

Night Phoenix was seen as the head of the Nine Prominent Figures instead of as a bookworm, while people fought the world over to own his fourteen masterpieces.

Although the identity of Yao Xi remained unknown, he caused perpetual conflict wherever he went, so citizens feared him.

His rage terrified the two continents, even while his radiant smile intoxicated those in the seven kingdoms.

Although not as mysterious as Mister Night Phoenix or Mister Yao Xi, very few knew Mister Wu Hen. He studied martial arts under a recluse known as Sruthan, who was known as the mightiest kung fu master. Stories had Mister Wu Hen able to move at lightning speed, and his bold fighting style gave rise to his fame three years ago. His frosty demeanor and anti-social behavior kept his popularity from rising.

More recently it was discovered that the sixth prince of the Lie Kingdom missing for more than ten years was none other than Mister Wu Hen. Two years ago he and the Emperor were reunited, and Mister Wu Hen was adored by the Emperor, giving him a plausible chance to win the throne of the Lie Kingdom.

Lei Tianyan, who was known as Mister Yao Yan, was the seventh prince of the Si Kingdom. An enchanting prince, he was known the world over and was rumored to have a peculiar birthmark on his face. A red feather on his brow, which girls found adorable. When the feather spread three years ago, his bewitching look earned him the name Mister Yao Yan.

He dwarfed even the sun and the moon with his beguiling red feather that lay at the tip of his brow.

The adoption of a girl named Xi Yun, to the Emperor of the Si Kingdom was dumbfounding news three years earlier. The hot topic though was the astonishing announcement, when the Emperor named his adopted daughter, Xi Yun, as his successor. She would be the first female Emperor across the two continents. The Emperor of the Si Kingdom confounded people once again announcing that Lei Tianyan, the Seventh Prince, was to be wed to Xi Yun in the future. The news caused an uproar.

At the same time, a man known only as Mister Liu Huo rose from obscurity. An army known as Yehuo Liuxing acted swiftly, wittingly and left no traces as they helped the populace to evict scourges, and ended many wars across the seven kingdoms. These invincible soldiers were masters of kung fu and identified by their black armor bearing an emblem of the Red Phoenix.

It remained unknown which kingdom the Yehuo Liuxing hailed from, only that Mister Liu Huo led them.

Mister Jue Sha headed the horrible killers' organization Yecha. Four members, who once paid to, would inhumanly murder the mark, gaining the title "Four Killers of Yecha." Their name made even the bravest tremble with fear.

Mister Jue Sha's true identity was also unknown. With his superb skill in kung fu and expert assassination techniques, his fame in jianghu grew, and he became one of the Nine Prominent Figures.

Mister Feng Gui, the son of a former third-ranking minister in the Can Kingdom, could composed verses at two and create ditties one year later. Possessing such outstanding talent and look, at four years of age, he was the most exceptional boy of the Can Kingdom. Life ten years later was rather unexceptional for Feng Gui, and people could not help but feel remorse that they saw nothing more of talents. However, when his father resigned, he embarked in commerce. Two years ago he ruined the hopes and dreams of many girls, when he got married.

There was also Mister Zi Zhu, whose real name and birth were unrevealed. Mister Zi Zhu was the proprietor of the Fengyun Firm which emerged twelve years ago out of the blue and became famous. With quality, caring service and offering fresh goods, these shops seized market shares throughout all seven kingdoms. Now the firm was involved in virtually all the industries, with shops located in every city in the worldwide. Some said Mister Zi Zhu controlled the financial lifeline in the seven kingdoms.

Stories abounded that he was above the emperors, refusing to kneel down to them. These tales contributed to Mister Zi Zhu being jokingly referred to as the God of Wealth on both continents.

Simultaneously, the counterpart of Fengyun Firm, the Shuihuang Firm grew bigger and stronger and was a bitter rival of the Fengyun Firm.

In the Can Kingdom, there remained a hostage known as Mister Yang, specifically, Yang Gezhi, who was the tenth prince of the Chi Kingdom. A portrait spread among the people. Yang had an elegance, dignity and gentle smile which conquered the world. Stories surfaced proclaiming him a gentleman who smiled gently toward even beggars. With his elegant temperament, peerless style, and gentle charm, he gained the hearts of the people of the world. As with many other events, this all occurred three short years ago.

Mister Yao Xi suddenly had whimsy inviting the Nine Prominent Figures to assemble once a year, starting three years ago. The world was in turmoil, and seven kingdoms in chaos, when the fateful gathering day was held.

However, for the first two years, Mister Night Phoenix didn't make an appearance, which was disappointing to many who hoped to meet him.

Tongues wagged, and rumors flew, and one such account gained popularity. The story of one who had the Nine Prominent Figures under control would rule the world. This tale was more popular than the Fire Phoenix Prophesy.

Legends and rumors became commonplace, and it appeared the seven kingdoms across two continents were doomed to remain in chaos.
