Queen of the World 12 Chapter 12: Closer

Valerie then focuses her attention to where she left 'Flower Hill'. Luckily, the book was still there wide open to the page she last read. 'Thank goodness, now i can read the rest'. Valerie started smiling, which made Jack think that Valerie was smiling at him. "Look Malcolm, see? She likes me, she's smiling!" Malcolm looks at Valerie to see that she was, truly smiling. He starts getting a jealous, telling himself that Valerie was probably looking at something else.

*Ring Ring Ring*

" Oh hello?..... Yes.... Now?... Ok bye."

"Sorry Malcolm, I have to go back to the store", said Jack, while looking at Malcolm with an apologetic expression.

" It's ok Jack, get going"

" Ok, bye Valerie" Jack says as he runs downstairs and out the door.

"Valerie~ it's time to go say good morning to your brother!" Malcolm starts walking towards Rowan's room and he first knocked and then slowly opened the door.

Rowan's room was very child-like. He had a race car shaped bed, as well as his walls decorated with race cars. He had a very special glass container in the center of his room, which contained small replicas of the cars that were created 500 years ago. Everything in his room was car themed. In the corner, sitting on a desk was Rowan. He was busy doing homework, since he wanted to play with his cars.

When he heard the door open, Rowan turned around and saw his dad and his little sister coming in. He then rushes towards the door and hugs his dad, which then, Malcolm picks Rowan up so that he would have a child in each arm.

"Good morning buddy!" Malcolm said affectionately.

" Good morning daddy" Said Rowan back.

Malcolm then puts Rowan and Valerie on the ground.

"Well Rowan, I have to do somethings, ok? So take care of your sister!" Malcolm then steadily walks out the room and shuts the door.

"Hmm", Rowan starts pinching Valerie's cheeks, judging whether or not this girl was worthy to be his sister.

' What is this kid doing' Valerie was getting quite annoyed at this, but she couldn't say anything since that would be weird if a 5 month old started talking fluent sentences. Valerie's eyes start watering, since she wanted Rowan to stop pinching her. Rowan then looks at Valerie's eyes that start watering up.

He starts panicking, not knowing what to do if she starts crying. So then, he stopped pinching her cheeks and started hugging her tightly, trying to comfort her.

'How cute!' thought Valerie. 'I'll protect this kid when we are older!'

As days went by, Rowan started playing more and more with Valerie. They would play together after school and during the weekends.By her first birthday, Valerie and Rowan were very close siblings. Ever so often, Rowan would go have a play date at his friend's house, but mostly, he would take care of Valerie.

Since they were close siblings, Valerie naturally knew a lot about Rowan. For example, Rowan's favorite color is green. Also besides his interest in cars, he likes archery. He would bring Valerie with him outside and practice for hours and hours. Valerie enjoyed watching him because she was fascinated. In her previous life, she only read books and usually, those books consisted of stuff like flowers, geography, languages, etc. She did one time read up on archery because her ex-husband liked it. Ever since, she was very interested in it.

She thought of archery as a beautiful thing. The elegance of an arrow flying through the air and then finally hitting the target in the middle, which reminded you that it was a dangerous thing. She never had the chance to learn it, since she didn't have the time to do so. Also, she didn't know where to start.

During the summer, Valerie would watch Rowan shoot arrows. Watching Rowan shoot an arrow reminded her the beauty in archery. 'Maybe I should pick up archery in this life'. As Valerie was thinking, Rowan looks over at his sister. He sighed then looked straight ahead once more and shot an arrow, which landed right in the center of the target. In the distance he heard tiny claps, which he knew that it was his sister. He looks at Valerie and smiles as he walks towards her.

Rowan looks at her and says "Aren't I good Val?"

"Yes!"

Rowan looked at Valerie in astonishment. Up until now, he never heard a single word from Valerie. And her first word ended up being "yes" instead of dad. He started getting a headache, since he knew that his father would be angry at him for not holotaping* her first word.

Valerie wanted to be a normal child until she reached 5 years old. So since she wanted to be a normal child, she has to start speaking at the same time as the other kids. She also had to speak like them. She decided a week ago that some time soon will she say her first word. Now, to fit the situation, she decided to say 'Yes' as her first word.

Rowan was looking at Valerie, while Valerie was looking at Rowan. In their minds, they firmly decided that they would protect their sibling from harm till the end of their days.
