Tokimori had never said anything about it either. Yato looked just like a human, and had five fingers. Even so, he was small and weak. He wondered why he was different from the accepted theory he was taught, but he hesitated mentioning it. He figured Yato wasn’t born a small, weak demon because wanted to be. Being a small demon with five fingers beyond his rank didn’t inconvenience Tokimori or Yato in any way. Tokimori could even say he preferred Yato with five fingers. During the contract ceremony when he was eight, he brought Yato, who the other demon masters had met, but he also greeted the head of the household with him. Yato clung to Tokimori, and barely spoke, but it wasn’t like he hid his hands, so they should have seen them. Even if they had seen them, and just didn’t say anything, he figured it was nothing to worry about, and eventually forgot about it. He never thought the head of the household saw only three fingers.
“Tokimori, what do you think this means?”
“I-I don’t know……maybe Yato really does have three fingers, but is showing only me that he has five.”
He did his best to guess, but it seemed to be far from the correct answer. Masanori shook his head as if to say that was out of the question, then moved his gaze to Yato next to him.
