“You brainless demon slayer! You’re annoying, so I could do that right now, right here, but humans don’t just turn into dust and disappear like demons. If you do that to someone in the human world, it’ll become a problem. It’ll end up on the news and Tokimori will worry.”
“You could eat me to destroy the evidence. Demons love human flesh, don’t they?”
Yato barked back at Hoshiai’s provocation.
“I’m not going to eat you! Tokimori wouldn’t like it, and if I ate something like you my energy would swell well over a hundred fold! It would take a lot of work to make myself small and look weak that way.”
“Don’t all demons eat humans?”
“I don’t care about other demons!”
“Why do you hide your true form from your demon master?”
“Do you want me to kill you that badly!?”
Getting increasingly angry, Yato unintentionally broke his own rule and spoke that taboo word. He wasn’t hiding it from him because he wanted to. Tokimori would be afraid, so he had no choice. He had bad history with Tokimori when he was born until he was five years old. All he would do is watch from outside through the window and it still made him sob. Even so, he would eagerly smile at him, but it would make him cry so hard he would have a hard time breathing, and made him look like he was dying. Yato remembered vividly even now how Tokimori’s face would turn a color he wasn’t sure was red or purple, or perhaps a pale blue.
