With a tone that didn’t seem able to understand why Tokimori was so shocked, Yato shamelessly confirmed it.
“Well, I came in, didn’t I? It didn’t matter if there were walls or if the doors were locked, and you were the only one who could see me. So, to make you like me somehow, whenever your family wasn’t around, I’d pick you up, like this, and lift you higher and higher, but you’d start wailing like there’s no tomorrow, and have a hard time breathing. Your mother would come rushing in when she heard your crying, and call the ambulance in a panic. Since you would cry no matter what I did, I didn’t try to come inside the house during your crawling years. I didn’t want to make you suffer.”
“Don’t act like you were doing me a favor. If you didn’t want me to suffer, you should have stayed away from me sooner. I cried because I was afraid of you. Besides, even if you didn’t come inside the house, you would watch me every day from the window.”
“Just watching is fine, isn’t it? Meanie.”
“M-Meanie?”
His overly forward tone made Tokimori reflexively look up again, trying to glare at Yato, but he gave up after three seconds, and averted his gaze. Yato looked right at Tokimori, but even if it was to glare at him, he was unable to look him in the eye.
