Chapter 92 - Winter is Coming

After nightfall, the world outside is plunged into darkness. The candlelight in the house wavered, as if it would be extinguished in the next moment. Lu Qingjiu huddled under the blanket because it was too cold, and the never-ending rustle of snow on the ground could still be heard in his ears.

Lu Qingjiu, who had slept for too long in the afternoon, was now wide awake, sitting on his bed with a book in his hand, reading the text by the faintest light.

Xiao Hua and Xiao Hei are both asleep, breathing evenly, which adds a little peace of mind to the room.

Lu Qingjiu's eyes felt a little tired at around eleven o'clock, and although he still did not want to go to sleep, he put down the book he was holding, intending to lie down on the bed and rest his eyes. With this in mind, Lu Qingjiu got up and extinguished the candle, then turned to the bed and tried to close the window a little so that he could sleep. But Lu Qingjiu glanced outside as he was closing the window and was stunned by the sight outside. There was a crack in the sky that looked like an aurora borealis, a crack that stood out in the night sky compared to the day. In the midst of the cracks, mist in the form of mountain mists poured out of them, filling the sky around them. What surprised Lu Qingjiu the most was a pillar of light coming down from the cracks, casting a beam of light into the forest not far away, illuminating it as if it were daylight.

On the path beyond the forest, a group of indifferent human beings moved slowly from Shuifu Village towards the light, because they were too far away for Lu Qingjiu to see them, but judging from their clothes, it was very likely that they were villagers of Shuifu Village.

Lu Qingjiu watched as the men drifted away from the village, heading in the direction of the pillar of light. Like moths on their way to the fire, even the roaring snow and wind could not stop them, step by step, further and further away from the homes behind them.

"Lu Qingjiu turned his head and found Xiao Hua awake at some point, standing beside the bed and seeing the scene outside the house, the humans moving towards the pillar of light.

"I don't know." Lu Qingjiu shook his head.

"Xiao Hua jumped onto the table in front of the window, his eyesight was much better than Lu Qingjiu's, who was almost as good as a human, and he could see the people well enough to say, "Where are they Where are they going?"

Lu Qingjiu says: "Maybe there is something calling them." Last winter, Shuifu Village actually showed some signs of being different, as Lu Qingjiu hardly saw any of his usual neighbours throughout the winter. It could be that people don't go out when it's too cold, but it's too much to expect to see no one all winter. At that time Lu Qingjiu had some suspicions in his mind, but now they have all been confirmed.

"I think I saw Li Xiaoyu." Xiao Hua's eyes rounded in disbelief, "Why is he out there too?"

Lu Qingjiu says: "I now suspect that we are the only living family in the entire Shuifu Village."

Xiao Hua showed a sad expression and Lu Qingjiu thought he was sad to lose a true partner, but his next words were, "Then I've been teaching Li Xiaoyu maths for so long for fuck's sake."

Lu Qingjiu :""

Xiao Hua: "And he lied to me that he improved in his exams woo woo woo."

Lu Qingjiu :""

Xiao Hua: "Ooooooooooo humans are big liars."

Lu Qingjiu didn't know what to say for a while, thinking of Xiao Hua tutoring Li Xiaoyu by candlelight every night, but he understood Xiao Hua's sadness.

Li Xiaoyu was among the crowd, heading towards the pillar of light. The villagers of Shuifu Village, like soulless zombies, walked slowly, one by one, towards their destination. When they reached the pillar of light, their forms faded away and became one with the wind and snow.

Lu Qingjiu reached out and took Xiao Hua into his arms, and one of the pigs sat on the edge of the bed and watched quietly.

"I don't quite understand what's going on." Xiao Hua Hua grunted, "I'm just a little dangling con, and mum stuck me in the human realm, saying it was safer."

Lu Qingjiu said, "How did you get here?"

Xiao Hua said, "There's always a way."

Lu Qingjiu said, "What if we hadn't saved you then?"

Xiao Hua was helpless: "Then we'll have to wait until we're older, and when I'm older, I'll have a way to run away."

Lu Qingjiu was so impatient to say something, but in the end he did not tell Xiao Hua the harsh truth that in the human world, there is a food called roast suckling pig.

The villagers seemed to have finally left, and as the last of them disappeared down the mountain path, Lu Qingjiu heard a loud bang. Lu Qingjiu and Xiao Hua were unaware of the noise and were half dazed.

Lu Qingjiu's ears buzzed and it took him a while to recover from the spinning of the sky. When he came to his senses, there were five flames in the sky, no, they were not flames, they were five dragons clad in red scales, and behind them, in the sky, there was a big hole in the sky, the hole was irregularly shaped, it was as if the sky had been torn apart.

Lu Qingjiu's head was still dizzy, he felt an itch in his nose and reached up to wipe it away before realising he had a nosebleed, but at the moment Lu Qingjiu didn't care that much about it, he pulled a piece of paper and plugged his nose, then continued to look up at the sky.

But to his regret, the five giant dragons from before had disappeared. Only five traces of fiery red could be seen in the blackened clouds. The snow was still falling and the night sky was bright and dazzling.

Xiao Hua also woke up from her coma and asked what had happened.

Lu Qingjiu said, "I saw five dragons."

Xiao Hua said, "A few"

Lu Qingjiu: "Five articles."

Xiao Hua looked shocked, then shivered and whispered to Lu Qingjiu, explaining that in the Otherworld, dragons are the creatures at the top of the food chain and the gods who control heaven and earth. Ying Long is the yang and Candle Dragon is the yin, combining yin and yang to produce all things.

It can be said that only in the human realm could he live in peace with the dragons; if it were in the Otherworld, he would have become food for Bai Yuehu.

Xiao Hua shuddered, "How could five dragons enter the human realm? This is not normal."

Lu Qingjiu frowned, he too knew it didn't make sense, but he was clueless and clueless about what was about to happen.

There were no more strange noises, and apart from the big hole in the sky and the five flaming clouds, everything seemed to be an illusion of Lu Qingjiu. He sat at the window for a while longer, making sure that there was no more movement outside, before finding some tape and newspaper to cover the glass to prevent leakage, and then planning to retreat into the warmth of his blanket.

But just as he reached the bedside, Lu Qingjiu suddenly remembered something and a great uneasiness rose up inside him.

Xiao Hua asked, "Where are you going?"

"I'll go to the door." Lu Qingjiu said.

"What are you doing at the door?" Xiao Hua didn't understand, "It's so cold outside."

Lu Qingjiu shook his head without explaining, he didn't really have a reason to go out at the moment, just a sixth sense that drove him firmly towards the courtyard when he thought of some horrible image. The snow in the courtyard was so thick that it made a crunching sound when he stepped on it. Lu Qingjiu exhaled a hot breath into his hand and rubbed it hard. It was quiet all around, only the sound of snow falling. Lu Qingjiu's footsteps stopped at the courtyard door, remembering Bai Yuehu's advice to him before he left, that he should not leave the courtyard, in which case he opened the door to see what was outside, not exactly leaving the courtyard.

Lu Qingjiu held his breath, gently pulled the bolt and pushed open the iron door of the house. With a soft creak, the iron door revealed a crack and Lu Qingjiu saw what was outside.

Outside there was little difference from the courtyard, still white and snowy, as the big hole in the sky gave off a fiery red glow that illuminated everything. Lu Qingjiu saw the path in front of his house, the minivan parked across the path and the tall cypress tree next to the minivan, everything was as usual, no different from the previous day.

Lu Qingjiu breathed a sigh of relief, but no sooner had that sigh fallen than he tensed up again as he noticed something different in the snow around the corner of his wall. The snow there was a little higher than the rest, and at first glance it was easy to miss it, but on closer inspection it looked like something was buried there.

Lu Qingjiu thought about it, but instead of leaving the courtyard, he turned around and took a bamboo pole used to build a grape frame from the garden, stretched it out from the doorway and poked it at the snow pile. After sweeping the snow off the top of the pile, what was underneath was revealed.

The man was wearing a black dress, his face was not visible, but Lu Qingjiu remembered clearly that Yin Xun had such a down jacket.

"Fuck." Lu Qingjiu threw the bamboo pole away and went out to pick up the man who had fallen in the snow.

When he saw the villagers walking up the hill like ghosts, Lu Qingjiu wondered if there was something wrong with Yin Xun's shrine, so he was a bit disturbed and thought it would be better to come out and have a look.

Lu Qingjiu took a deep breath and took a step out of the courtyard. No sooner had he stepped outside than he understood why Bai Yuehu had advised him not to leave the courtyard, it was so cold outside that he wondered if he would freeze instantly. The wind felt like it was burrowing into his body through his bones, making Lu Qingjiu's teeth chatter. Struggling to control his body, he went over to the unconscious Yin Xun, grabbed one of his hands and started to drag him back.

This Yin Xun was completely frozen hard and was dragged by Lu Qingjiu without even changing position, remaining huddled in place.

Lu Qingjiu's steps were difficult, his eyes could not open because of all the wind and snow in front of him, his body was losing heat rapidly, and the distance of just a dozen steps was hard to get out of the taste of ninety-eight.

"Lu Qingjiu used all his strength to lead Yin Xun through the gate of the courtyard.

The moment he entered, both of them fell to the ground, Lu Qingjiu's face was blue from the cold, and it took him a while to get up and shut the door first. With the door closed, the temperature in the courtyard began to rise, and Lu Qingjiu felt that he had finally come to life, and that the courtyard, which had been cold, had now become a warm home.

"Yin Xun, Yin Xun." Lu Qingjiu took a quick look at Yin Xun after he had recovered.

The black eyes were staring straight up, covered in a thin layer of frost. Lu Qingjiu touched his cheek to make sure that he was really frozen hard.

If this were a normal person, Lu Qingjiu would have had to start thinking about where to bury him, but at least Yin Xun had died once, so he wasn't that fragile, and Lu Qingjiu thought he'd drag him into the house to thaw him out.

Lu Qingjiu then rammed and rammed the hardened Yin Xun into a room with a charcoal fire and unzipped his down jacket so that he was lying close to the fire.

Xiao Hua was shocked by the person Lu Qingjiu brought in, and when she saw that it was Yin Xun, who was frozen in this state, she said in horror, "What happened to Yin Xun?"

Lu Qingjiu looked sad: "I went out and saw him outside, I don't know how long he had been frozen."

Xiao Hua: "Can this still live after thawing?"

Lu Qingjiu poked Yin Xun's harder-than-rock head: "I don't know, let's thaw it out first, and if it doesn't work, wait for Bai Yuehu to come back and see."

Xiao Hua's eyes are worried.

But at least they found Yin Xun and didn't leave him out in the cold, so they could at least save him. Lu Qingjiu had gone out and was so cold that he was afraid he would catch a cold, so he changed into dry clothes and went under the blanket.

"Xiao Hua looked at Yin Xun, who was still like a statue.

"Just leave it there." Lu Qingjiu's voice was a little muffled as his face was half shrunken inside the blanket, "It's so cold out in the courtyard, I fucking thought I was going to die out there."

Xiao Hua pats Lu Qingjiu's head with his own pig's trotters as a gesture of comfort.

When your body warms up, you start to get sleepy

Lu Qingjiu wanted to keep watch over Yin Xun, but the thawing of Yin Xun was a long process, and as he waited, he fell asleep in a daze.

The next morning, Lu Qingjiu woke up from his dream and saw Yin Xun lying in the same position next to the charcoal fire, and his head snapped up: "Xiao Hua'er, did you turn him over last night?"

Xiao Hua is woken up by Lu Qingjiu and shakes his head in bewilderment.

Lu Qingjiu hurriedly got up to turn Yin Xun's face, and when he did so, he felt that half of Yin Xun's body had returned to normal, while the other half was still hard and cold. Does it work?"

Xiao Hua didn't know whether it would work or not, but he had to say something comforting and said, "It's okay, I've read a story about a fish that was kept fresh at zero degrees and came back to life after ten years. Yin Xun's structure is simpler than a fish, so it must be okay."

Lu Qingjiu: "Where did you read this story?"

Xiao Hua: "A storytelling session."

Lu Qingjiu: "" Yin Xun, you are afraid that you are in a bad way.

But at least they were best friends, and Lu Qingjiu was reluctant to give up on the treatment, so he decided to eat a baked sweet potato to calm down and then continue to thaw Yin Xun. The sweet potato was so warm that it was still a bit hot when you took a bite in your hand, but when you peeled off the skin, there was soft flesh inside, which was so warm in your mouth that even the sadness of Yin Xun being frozen into a statue was diminished.

"It's so delicious." Xiao Hua said with emotion, "I really want a warm pot of lamb soup."

"I'd like to." Lu Qingjiu sniffled, feeling like he was catching a cold, the temperature outside the courtyard was so low that if he hadn't run so fast, he would have been thawing out with Yin Xun today.

"Alas, Yin Xun doesn't seem to be getting better, I'll help him eat this sweet potato too." Xiao Hua used his hooves to peel the sweet potato slices expertly, his sister was still sleeping, the fox cubs didn't like vegetarians, Yin Xun was still frozen, and the rest of the sweet potato was all his and Lu Qingjiu's.

Lu Qingjiu said, "OK, I'll help him eat one too."

The two of them were happily peeling the sweet potatoes, completely unaware that Yin Xun, the statue, had a crystal tear slipping from the corner of her eye. Of course, if they had seen it, they would probably have just taken it as a drop of water from the thawing process

After lunch, Lu Qingjiu unfortunately found himself with a cold, first a scratchy throat, followed by sneezing and a runny nose, he rushed to find medicine and took a higher dose.

Xiao Hua and Lu Qingjiu have given up guarding him for good and have joined Xiao Hei and the fox cubs to make a pot of mutton for a lamb soup.

Lu Qingjiu has been instructing Xiao Hua Xiao Hei to touch the water because she has a cold.

Lu Qingjiu lamented that he hadn't spotted the two pigs' talent earlier, while Xiao Hua puffed up his chest and bad-mouthed him in front of Yin Xun: "I don't have water in my head."

Lu Qingjiu said politely, "It's not very nice of you to say that, Yin Xun is still here."

Xiao Hua: "He hasn't even thawed out."

Lu Qingjiu said, "What if the unfrozen one can already hear the sound?"

Xiao Hua said, "Then let's plug his ears first."

Lu Qingjiu: "" Yin Xun, you really shouldn't have offended Xiao Hua.

But joking aside, Lu Qingjiu and Xiao Hua were so relieved because they had already noticed that Yin Xun's thawed skin had regained the feel of human skin, unlike that of a person who had been frozen to death, and that Yin Xun's skin was very elastic and would bruise after a few more pinches. Lu Qingjiu pinched a few more times to make sure he was right.

Xiao Hua said, "It's not a good idea to pinch his face."

Lu Qingjiu said, "Then where do you want to pinch?"

Xiao Hua said, "Of course it's the fleshy part," and he looked at Yin Xun's buttocks.

Lu Qingjiu :""

Xiao Hua said quietly, "Just like he pinched me."

Lu Qingjiu finally decides not to get involved in the love-hate relationship between Xiao Hua and Yin Xun, leaving them both free to play.

The three cubs and Lu Qingjiu ate the hot lamb soup pot so beautifully that Lu Qingjiu felt much better about his cold. The soup pot was a little rougher than usual - after all, neither piglet was a skilled cook - but it was good enough for them after a few days on dry food, especially as the lamb was already of good quality and they soon wiped out the meat, leaving a large pot of soup.

Lu Qingjiu was about to finish the soup when he heard a small whimpering sound coming from the side of the bed. He listened for a moment to make sure he wasn't hallucinating and hurried over to the bed to see that Yin Xun had thawed out somehow and was now crying in anguish.

Lu Qingjiu hurriedly carried him to bed and said, "Yin Xun, don't cry, it's all right."

Yin Xun was in tears, but his words were not so touching, saying, " Lu Qingjiu, you son of a bitch, you don't even give me a pile of mutton."

Lu Qingjiu :""

Yin Xun: "I don't have a friend like you."

Lu Qingjiu: ""He looked at Yin Xun's face and saw the bruises as if he had been punched, turned around silently, went to scoop up a bowl of hot mutton soup and handed it to Yin Xun.

Yin Xun was starving, and although he resented not having eaten the lamb, at least he had a bowl of soup to soothe the wounds in his heart. He gurgled and poured three or four bowls of soup in one gulp before he got over it and reached up to rub the frost off his eyelashes and whispered, "I thought I was going to die."

Lu Qingjiu said, "Why are you at home? I told you not to go out, didn't I?"

Yin Xun shook his head, his face a little tired, and explained to Lu Qingjiu what had happened. After the snow started to fall, the candle flame inside the ancestral hall became dimmer and dimmer and could not be renewed, and eventually it all went out. The spirits of the dead that had been suppressed inside came out and Yin Xun was unable to stop them. When he saw the spirits leaving the door and heading towards Lu Qingjiu's house, he was afraid that they would harm Lu Qingjiu and ran towards him. However, the temperature outside the courtyard was so cold that Yin Xun, who was about to reach his destination, was frozen in ice just a few steps away.

Fortunately, the spirits did not come to Lu Qingjiu's house, but went straight up the mountain.

After listening to Yin Xun's description, Lu Qingjiu's heart was full of complications. He touched Yin Xun's still wet head and said, "I'm sorry."

Yin Xun is moved to say, "No, it's my choice."

Lu Qingjiu was not very nice: "No, I mean I should have left you two lumps of mutton."

Yin Xun: ""It's better if I don't mention it, but when I do, Yin Xun is so angry that she almost throws the bowl over. Only with Lu Qingjiu's promise to make another pot of mutton soup for tomorrow did he relent. But it didn't last long, because when he went into the toilet to change his clothes, he saw the bruises on his face.

"Fuck, Lu Qingjiu, aren't you human?" Yin Xun yelled angrily from the toilet, "I feel like I've been fucking beaten up."

Lu Qingjiu, knowing that he was in the wrong, pretended not to hear, closed his eyes and went to sleep.

The author has something to say.

Lu Qingjiu: If this was in summer

Yin Xun: so I don't get frozen into a popsicle

Lu Qingjiu: you can use Yin Xun to make chilled yellow peaches

Yin Xun.
