Chapter 91 - Flying Snow in June

Previously, Lu Qingjiu was there, but now Zhu Miaomiao is the only human being in the family. It seemed only logical that he would be the only human in the family to lose out in a relentless eating contest. Zhu Miaomiao watched the last of the rabbit meat being taken away by the chopsticks of the two people around him, and as he looked at the green vegetables in his bowl, he could not help but shed a tear of sadness.

Lu Qingjiu has got up to eat and has gone out into the yard to refill the water basin in the chicken pen and change the rabbits' grass to clean. In this hot weather, food spoils faster and faster, so if the chicken feed is not finished, it must be disposed of quickly, otherwise the yard will smell bad.

After all this, Lu Qingjiu went for another nap and woke up with the intention of fulfilling the promise he had made to Zhu Miaomiao to make her favourite dessert.

The cheese I bought earlier has come in handy, and Lu Qingjiu is thinking of making a cheese tart. Lu Qingjiu also plans to make some chicken breasts and chicken cutlets with cheese. Lu Qingjiu has never tried these desserts before as they are quite complicated, so I'm not sure if they will work this time.

Lu Qingjiu's control of the heat and the filling is very precise because of his regular dessert making, and the freshly made cheese tart still smells rich and creamy. The sides are crispy and the inside is a rich, liquidy filling, with a creamy, milky aroma and a sweet, creamy taste that is unique to cheese. The chicken fillet is wrapped in a thin layer of breadcrumbs and fried in warm oil, then deep-fried a second time to maximise the fat and reduce greasiness. The sharp edge of the knife cuts through the breadcrumbs and the juices spill out of the chicken, which is still white and slowly steaming.

The three pairs of eager eyes in the house never looked away from the kitchen for a moment, so Lu Qingjiu sent them out into the courtyard to wait, and then made some hawthorn water with ice cubes, which had been made last year and was almost finished. It was sweet and sour, and the ice made it even more refreshing, which was a great way to beat the heat on this slightly hot afternoon. Lu Qingjiu plans to make more this year when the hawthorn is ripe, so that we don't run out.

Of course, he can't have anything cold, so he only has a glass of milk for himself. Ever since Zhu Miaomiao came here and discovered that Cow can produce all kinds of flavours of milk, he has opened the door to a new world and started feeding Cow all kinds of strange things, such as the egg-flavoured milk in Lu Qingjiu's hand, which tastes quite good.

The three of them had long been fist-pumping at the food in the courtyard, but held back with the last of their self-control. Lu Qingjiu sat down and, seeing the expressions on the three of them, couldn't help but smile, with a touch of helplessness in his tone, "All right, eat."

As soon as Lu Qingjiu's words were spoken, three black shadows flashed before his eyes, and then most of the food in front of him was gone.

Zhu Miaomiao had the experience of the previous game, and this time it was a two-handed effort to get it first, not to be outdone in any way.

Lu Qingjiu

Just sitting next to them quietly sipping milk and watching them grab it.

Afternoon tea was supposed to be a leisurely affair, but the three of them made it look like a sword fight, with Bai Yuehu and Yin Xun and Zhu Miaomiao losing out in the end.

Zhu Miaomiao had to go back to work in the city, even though she was sad to leave. Of course, before she left, she didn't forget to bring her favourite honey and hair lotion, as well as some fruits grown in Bai Yuehu.

"I'll come back next time." Zhu Miaomiao says goodbye to Lu Qingjiu before boarding the train.

"Well, come back next time." Lu Qingjiu waved his hand and watched her back until she had completely disappeared in front of him before he turned to leave.

He was halfway back to Shuifu Village in his minivan when he saw a familiar figure. At first Lu Qingjiu thought he was mistaken, but it was only when he stopped in front of the man that he was sure he was right.

"Master Xuan Yu, what are you doing here?" Lu Qingjiu called out as he got out of the car.

Standing by the roadside was a monk in a robe, wearing a hat and holding a Zen staff. Although his face was mostly hidden by the hat, Lu Qingjiu recognised his identity because of his special clothes, and he was the monk, Xuan Yu, who had visited his house last winter when the snow was falling.

According to Xuan Yu, he and Lu Qingjiu's grandmother were old friends, and it was he who subtly reminded Lu Qingjiu of the use of the black box.

"Mr. Lu, long time no see." Unlike Bai Yuehu's aggressive handsomeness, Xuan Yu had a gentle and tolerant jade-like charm, which was similar to Lu Qingjiu's aura.

"It's been a long time." Lu Qingjiu said, "Is there something you want to do here?"

Xuan Yu laughed, "I'm just informing Mr. Lu that he must not go out for a few days."

Lu Qingjiu said: "Don't go out"

Xuan Yu said, "It's going to snow in Shuifu Village."

Lu Qingjiu was stunned: "Snow? It's only June, how can it snow?"

Xuan Yu did not answer, but gazed at Lu Qingjiu with compassionate eyes, and Lu Qingjiu had the illusion that he was being looked into his soul as he stared at him, saying, "Master, is there something you want to tell me?"

" Has Mr. Lu been to the shrine of the God of the Mountain?" asks Xuan Yu.

Lu Qingjiu said, "I've been there."

"Did you see anything?" Xuan Yu continued.

"Seeing what," Lu Qingjiu said, "you mean my mother's tablet."

Xuan Yu said, "It seems that Mr. Lu, knows all about it."

Lu Qingjiu nodded, "I know almost everything." But Xuan Yu's words reminded him of something, when Xuan Yu suddenly turned Yin Xun into a scarecrow, if Bai Yuehu hadn't rushed back, I'm afraid that something in the ancestral hall would have gone wrong, and Xuan Yu obviously knew what was going on in that ancestral hall, if so, why did he turn Yin Xun into a scarecrow?

Before Lu Qingjiu could even think about it, Xuan Yu sighed, his compassionate eyes tinged with regret: "Then why doesn't the Master leave Shuifu Village?"

Lu Qingjiu frowned and said, "Why did you leave?"

Xuan Yu said, "Your mother died because of Shuifu Village, your grandmother was imprisoned for life because of Shuifu Village, now you have a chance to get out, why are you still hesitating?"

Lu Qingjiu's smile narrowed as he said, "No, I'm not hesitating, I'm not leaving Shuifu Village." His words were clear, without a hint of hesitation.

Xuan Yu stopped smiling at his words, those black jade-like eyes, quietly looking at Lu Qingjiu, the eyes of ordinary people, there will be lines in the pupils, but his eyes, but like a deep lake, black refreshing.

"Why don't you go?" Xuan Yu asks.

Lu Qingjiu replied, "I like Shuifu Village."

Xuan Yu: "Like Shuifu Village or the people in Shuifu Village"

Lu Qingjiu's brow knitted tighter as he said, "I wonder what Master Xuan Yu means by this and what he is trying to tell me."

He shook his head and sighed again, "It's just that."

Lu Qingjiu intuited what else Xuan Yu would say.

As if on cue, Xuan Yu lifted his hand and put his hat back on as he turned and walked slowly towards the mountain, his voice as indistinct as the mist in the mountains: "It will snow in June, Mr. Lu, please be prepared."

Lu Qingjiu wanted to call out to him, but in the blink of an eye, he disappeared in front of him.

There was only one road, but Lu Qingjiu drove on until he reached his home and saw no sign of Xuan Yu again.

When he got home, Lu Qingjiu quickly told Bai Yuehu about the incident.

Before he left, he instructed Lu Qingjiu to go to town tomorrow to buy some coal and not to leave the courtyard for seven days, no matter what happened, and to keep Yin Xun at home to guard the tablets holding the spirits of the dead.

Lu Qingjiu was busy asking what was wrong.

Bai Yuehu shook his head and said that he would tell him more when the matter was over. Lu Qingjiu felt that it would be very dangerous and told Yin Xun about it, and then took Yin Xun to the town in the night to buy the coal and the winter stuff Bai Yuehu had mentioned.

The owner of the town was surprised to see Lu Qingjiu buying all these things and asked him why it was now winter. Lu Qingjiu laughed and made a few casual remarks.

It was a clear day, with white clouds floating in the sky, the moon hanging like a jade disk, and the noisy chirping of insects, no different from any other night.

"What's going on?" Yin Xun was also at a loss.

Lu Qingjiu told Yin Xun about the afternoon's events as he tidied up the house. When Bai Yuehu left in a hurry, Yin Xun sensed something was wrong and said in fear: "That Xuan Yu is the monk who turned me into a scarecrow. "

Lu Qingjiu shook his head to show that he didn't know either, but Bai Yuehu's nervous look was no joke, something was definitely going to happen. He gave Yin Xun some of the things he had bought and told him to take them home so that he wouldn't be stuck at home with nothing to eat if something unexpected happened.

Although Yin Xun did not know what was going to happen, he obediently listened to Lu Qingjiu's words.

That night, Lu Qingjiu was so preoccupied that he tossed and turned, unable to sleep, and with so much confusion running through his mind, that he only managed to get some sleep when it was almost dawn. But he didn't get much sleep before he was awakened by a strange noise outside his window.

The sound of rustling, rustling, rustling is not unfamiliar, but it shouldn't be at this time of day either. Lu Qingjiu was awakened from his hazy dream by this sound. He sat up from his bed and pushed open the window, only to be stunned by the scene outside. Overnight, however, the courtyard, which had been lush and green, had been covered with snow. The whole world had become a blanket, and the reflected sunlight stung one's eyes.

Lu Qingjiu took a few seconds to realise that he was indeed not dreaming, and that Xuan Yu's prophecy from yesterday had really happened.

The snow flies in June and the cold winter suddenly sets in.

Lu Qingjiu checked his mobile phone and was not surprised to see that there was not a single signal. He exhaled a white mist and put on his thick winter clothes, then built a pot of charcoal in the house and carried the frozen fox cubs and two piglets inside the living room into the bedroom.

The chickens and rabbits in the courtyard were also frozen to death. Lu Qingjiu did not want them to freeze to death, so he found another storage room, built a charcoal fire and put them inside, closed the windows and spread a thick blanket on the floor, not knowing whether it would help or not.

The temperature dropped from over 30 degrees to below zero overnight, so the plants should have froze to death, but amazingly the vegetables in Lu Qingjiu's yard were still in good condition, except for the snow that covered them, and there was no sign of yellowing.

Lu Qingjiu wrapped himself up in a ball and then waddled off to sort out the room where the kang was burning and put the fire in. Once he had sorted it out, he took the little fox cubs and they hunkered down under the covers and slowly ate slices of baked steamed bun for breakfast.

"It's so cold, why is it snowing all of a sudden?" Lu Qingjiu's nose was red from the cold and he wouldn't let go of the warm Xiao Hua. He now understood why Yin Xun always used Xiao Hua as a hand warmer in winter, as the piglet's body temperature was a little warmer than humans and its skin was soft and smooth, making it very comfortable to hold.

Xiao Hua grunted as she lay on Lu Qingjiu's chest, eating the slices of steamed bun he fed her, but didn't protest, "I don't know, it's the first time I've encountered it."

Lu Qingjiu said, "How long have you been in the human world?"

Xiao Hua said, "I've just arrived and you've arrested me."

Lu Qingjiu said: "Catch"

Xiao Hua: "Oh, it's buy." He took a look at his sister who was sleeping with her butt up and grunted, "Don't worry, dragons are all strong, Bai Yuehu will be fine."

Lu Qingjiu looked at the ceiling and said, "When the snow stops, I'll clean the ceiling of this house too." It was so dark that you couldn't see the lime.

It was snowing so heavily outside that you could hear it falling on the ground. In the morning it was still at the ankles, but in the morning it had reached the calves and had no intention of stopping.

Lu Qingjiu was a little worried that the roof would be under a lot of pressure if the snow continued to fall - after all, the old house had not been repaired for a long time and such a sudden amount of snowfall threatened to collapse the roof, and he even heard the creaking of the wood as it became overwhelmed.

Lu Qingjiu thought that if the snow continued to fall, he would have to build a ladder to sweep some of the snow off the roof, otherwise he would be in more danger if the house collapsed. Lu Qingjiu was worried about a lot of things, not only Bai Yuehu but also Yin Xun, who fortunately had brought back a lot of food, clothes and coal last night.

According to Bai Yuehu, Lu Qingjiu stayed in the house with the warmth of the bed under his buttocks and the snow outside, which painted the world a dazzling white, giving a sense of trance.

At around 6pm, when it was completely dark, Lu Qingjiu made half a pot of chicken soup over a charcoal stove, drank most of it and gave the meat to the family's three cubs. After drinking the soup, his body warmed up considerably and he added more charcoal to the kang and opened the window a crack before retreating under the covers.

How is Bai Yuehu doing? Did he get cold? Did he have a good dinner? Did he get hurt if he fought with the other demons?

The next day, the snow still did not stop, as if it had been falling continuously all night.

By the time Lu Qingjiu stepped out, the snow had piled up to the base of his legs, making it very difficult to even open the door. To prevent being trapped in the house, Lu Qingjiu had to take out a broom and sweep the snow off the door. He checked the roof and decided that this was not a good idea, he had to get the snow off the roof or the house would be in danger if it continued to fall for another afternoon.

Although it was very dangerous to do this in such heavy snow, Lu Qingjiu brought out a ladder and slowly climbed up to the roof and swept the snow down from above.

While he was sweeping for a while, Lu Qingjiu noticed something disturbing in the sky. There were lines in the thick clouds, and light was leaking through them, as if the sky had broken into many pieces at first glance. This immediately reminded Lu Qingjiu of the scene in his dream, the ice-blue butterflies and the figure standing among them.

Lu Qingjiu looked up long enough for the snow to accumulate in a thick layer on his shoulders, but fortunately there were some cracks in the clouds, but they showed no sign of widening. Lu Qingjiu exhaled a white breath and continued to lower his head and sweep all the snow off the roof.

After sweeping the snow, Lu Qingjiu was so cold that he hurried into the house, picked up the ginger soup he had prepared and poured it down his throat. The hot ginger soup poured into his mouth, sliding through his oesophagus to warm his cold stomach, and the warmth soon spread to his limbs, making Lu Qingjiu feel alive again.

He rubbed his cold nose and said vaguely, "It's cold out there."

"Yeah." Xiao Hua came forward and rested her belly on top of Lu Qingjiu's frozen hand, shivering from the cold but still not moving away, "When is the snow going to stop."

"It's probably a few days away." Lu Qingjiu replied.

If Xuan Yu is right, it could be snowing for seven or eight days.

Lu Qingjiu sniffles and sneezes.

Xiao Hua said nervously, "Are you all right?"

Lu Qingjiu said, "It's nothing, I might have gotten cold when I went out." He rubbed his hands together and felt his body almost warm, "Go and pour some more wine to drive away the cold."

Xiao Hua said, "You should be careful not to catch a cold." He even rubbed his soft piggy nose against Lu Qingjiu.

Lu Qingjiu was amused to see that Xiao Hua Xiao Hei and Su Xi had been together for a long time and had picked up each other's habitual movements. Xiao Hua, who was originally a piglet, ended up rubbing his head like a fox, and Su Xi was no worse than Xiao Hua in the way he dug into the dirt.

After patting him on the head, Lu Qingjiu went to the storeroom to get a bottle of white wine, which was most unfortunate because it was frozen in ice, but fortunately not cracked, otherwise it would have been undrinkable. Lu Qingjiu's face was red and he was feeling much better.

The electricity at home stopped yesterday when it snowed, and Lu Qingjiu was afraid that his phone would run out of power too quickly and he switched on the most power-saving mode, not daring to play games. Sitting alone and bored, he took the books out of his bedroom, lit a candle and read them slowly by the light.

Lu Qingjiu's body heated up and in a trance he felt Bai Yuehu come up to him, lower his head and, as usual, drop a soft kiss on his forehead.

"Bai Yuehu" Lu Qingjiu called out Bai Yuehu's name vaguely, reaching out to grab the person at his side, but his hand slipped in the cold air and then he realized that there was no one at his side, much less Bai Yuehu.

Lu Qingjiu woke up and looked at the time and saw that it was just after two in the afternoon. Lu Qingjiu was a bit bored by the long hours without a pastime. He tried to get some more sleep, but found that he couldn't, so he got up from bed to read a book and study a recipe.

When the snow stops, Lu Qingjiu will have to try a few of the ones he didn't have the trouble to try before.

Make the dishes and celebrate well.

Because of the snow, the lines between day and night were blurred and Lu Qingjiu would have been confused as to what time it was if the time on his mobile phone hadn't continued to go.

At six o'clock, it was time for dinner, and Lu Qingjiu felt that he could not afford to mess around with the food, as there was nothing else to do. The water pipes were frozen, so Lu Qingjiu had no choice but to take a bucket and collect snow water, strain it several times and heat it up to make do.

He took flour and fetched frozen pork and made a pie and put it on the charcoal fire. The rich aroma of the food filled the room and all three cubs sat obediently beside it, their eyes falling on the pie.

Lu Qingjiu flipped the pie over and sprinkled white sesame seeds on top, and after a little heat, the pie gave off a more inviting aroma.

"Come on, one for each of you." Lu Qingjiu said, "I'll make more if there's not enough."

Lu Qingjiu took a bite and felt the warm gravy flowing down his tongue. The outside of the pie was crispy, but the inside was softened by the gravy. Lu Qingjiu went above and beyond, knocking over three in one sitting and burping himself up. After eating, he threw a few more sweet potatoes into the coals and waited for them to cook.

"When is the snow going to stop?" Lu Qingjiu looked down and stroked Xiao Hei's head, "Don't be in a hurry, it will be soon."

"Yes, there's no rush." Xiao Hua reassured her sister.

"But I'm scared." Xiao Hei whispers. Xiao Hei whispered, "I always feel something coming". Lu Qingjiu looks up worriedly and sees the never-ending snowfall outside the window.

What the author has to say: Lu Qingjiu: Something's coming

Bai Yuehu: That's what I'm most afraid of.

Lu Qingjiu: What

Bai Yuehu: Poverty.

Lu Qingjiu.
