BREAKING OFF LIMITS 4 BE HUMBLE

Humility is not lack of strength, but strength in reserve. It is not every time you fight back. Sometimes, you will ignore critics and go your way.

Bishop Idahosa once said several years ago when he was still a young boy with no shoe, his parent one day, sent him to fetch water from the village stream. Other villagers were there so they had to take turns. He was on the long queue and when it eventually got to his turn, a bully jumped the queue and forcefully fetched his bucket of water. Bishop Idahosa, who was then a tiny fragile-looking boy, wanted to confront the bully because he hated oppression. If he did, the bully would have beaten him to coma because he looked very feeble. But an elderly man intervened and told him wisdom he never forgot. The man said, "Don't worry, leave him and let him go. The water he fetched is not clean because he was not patient for the turbulent water to get settled. If you will only take your time patiently, wait for the water to settle down before fetching, you will fetch clean water".

It means those who display arrogance and impatience, thinking they are smarter than you by breaking rules will one day find out that whatever they had is inferior to yours. There is no one in God's kingdom that is not gifted, who has no grace or talent but many have missed divine assistance because of pride. It is my prayer that your gift will make a room for you.

Prov. 18:16

A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

May your gift make room for you at the very top, may it bring you before great people. Beloved, for you to become great in God, you must be humble. Humility is very essential to your greatness because there are some people who will not help you if you are not humble. Great people ride on the shoulders of those who have achieved in the past to become great. When a man learns from what great people have done, it becomes easy for him to use their experience for his advantage. If you refuse to be humble, God will humble you.

Luke 14:11

For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

May you be humble enough for heaven to exalt you. Humility is not cowardice or weakness, it is reserving your strength for better things. If you want honour from God, be humble because God lifts the humble and resist the proud.

Remember the story of Ahab, as ungodly as Ahab was, he humbled himself before God in sackcloth when God pronounced judgment on him. God had to delay judgment because Ahab humbled himself. If God could do that for a wicked Ahab married to a witch called Jezeebel, how much more will God exalt His children who come before Him in humility?

1 Peter 5:6

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

I have seen people over-time who are so arrogant and self-willed who wouldn't listen to those with better experience. The importance of making a mature minister a mentor is to avoid the mistakes of his past, to avoid his past suffering. If you have not seen a humble man being exalted, it is because his time has not come. Once you are humbled and you follow God, your time will come sooner than you know and when your time of reward comes, no one will be able to pull you down.

Daniel was a humble man who loved the Lord and loved to pray. Though at different occasions, enemies conspired against him, but on each occasion, the enemies died in his stead. God exchanged men for his life and he became a champion who outlived three ungodly kings. II Corinthians 10:4 says:

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.

Whenever people give testimony of God's goodness, I tell them to give God the glory because ministers are mere instrument. A gun itself cannot do anything without the bullet in it. It is the bullet that makes gun a powerful weapon, if not; it would have been an ordinary steel or wood. As believers, it is through God we become powerful. As the gun itself has no power without the bullet, so also is a man without God's power. Without God, we can do nothing. May the power of God flow through you so that the Excellency will be of God. Our earthen vessel is ordinary clay; hence, we are nobody without Him.

When Joseph was summoned by Pharaoh to interpret his dream because of his reputation (interpreting dream for the Butler and the baker), the first thing Joseph said to Pharaoh was:

And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

Gen 41:16

Joseph could have attributed the success and glory of the previous interpretations to himself but he acknowledged God; even before an ungodly king. Joseph interpreted Pharaoh's dream explicitly and even proffered solution to the impending famine. He suggested Pharaoh should get a wise and discreet man who will oversee storage of food for the first seven years of plenty so that Egypt will have enough to eat for the seven years of famine. Since the days of Joseph, no one had ever stored food (canned, grains) for seven years without losing its nutrient or value, yet, Joseph's ingenuity was far ahead scientific knowledge. No wonder Pharaoh said:

Gen 41:38-39

38. And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

39. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:

Joseph was exalted by Pharaoh as the prime minister of Egypt. Why, because he acknowledge God. In your life also when men praise and honour you, no matter your beauty, wisdom, expertise, success, let all the glory be unto God. God must be honoured wherever you find yourself. Even animals praise Him, birds of the air and trees in the forest praise Him; everything He made praise Him to show that God is in control always. If you are conscious of the fact that God is in control of your life, you will also praise Him.

In Acts 3:1-11, Peter and John healed a lame man but when the priests and the Sadducees heard about it, they imprisoned the two disciples; forbade them from preaching in the name of Jesus. Peter responded,

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12

When you always refer men to Jesus, God will take glory in your life. All of us will one day leave this earth but our children will thank God for the heritage they have. Be humbled to be a part of what God is doing in your local church; don't be independent in the kingdom. A stick of broom cannot sweep but a bunch of several broom stick can. With humility, participate in kingdom projects in your local assembly and God shall exalt you.

God resists the proud. The origin of the fall of the devil is because of his pride. The devil forgot that his beauty was from God; His ability to sing was also from God. So he wanted to exalt himself above God and God would not allow anyone to usurp His authority. Today, the devil is a rebel leader. Initially, he was not called the devil, he was called Lucifer; a beautiful angel who was singing to honour his Maker but became perverted in wisdom because he was proud. He allowed his talents and beauty to get to him. That is why God always abase anyone who exalts himself. True honour comes from God alone. 1st Peter 5:5-6 says;

5. Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

6. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

May God exalt you.
