Chapter 6 Bathing
It was the time when the villagers were having lunch, and there was no one at the well.
Dalang skillfully tied the rope to the handle of the bucket and threw it down the well. After shaking it a few times, the bucket tipped over into the water and soon filled it with water.
Even though the bucket filled with water was very heavy, the boy seemed to be struggling. There was no rocker arm or anything like that beside the well. It was just a bare well.
Qin Yao stepped forward to catch the rope and lifted the bucket up with a little effort.
Dalang watched in surprise as she lifted the heavy bucket of water, with a glimmer of light in her numb expression.
The two clay pots that Qin Yao drank up in the morning were also brought over. Qin Yao poured the water from the bucket into the jars and filled the two clay pots.
He used the remaining water to wash the bucket and threw it into the well. He followed Dalang's previous action and shook it, then brought a bucket full of water up.
Qin Yao carried a bucket in one hand and a clay pot in the other. Dalang held the remaining one in his arms.
This was the first time that Xu was able to bring so much water home, and an innocent smile appeared on the face of the usually mature boy.
Perhaps because I gained strength after eating, my steps towards home became more and more brisk.
“Aniang!”
Before Qin Yao and Dalang reached the door of their home, they saw a small figure standing there on the hillside, shouting to them excitedly.
When he saw her, he immediately ran down with his legs and stumbled towards her.
“Slow down!” Qin Yao hurriedly reminded.
However, the children who grew up in the country are all tough-skinned. It seemed that the thin Si Niang fell down on the road and got up on her own. She wiped her face with her dirty hands and her face became even more discolored. She giggled and didn't feel the pain.
Siniang leaned close to Qin Yao and stood next to her. Those who were sensible wanted to help carry the bucket together.
Seeing that she was not injured, Qin Yao breathed a sigh of relief and did not let her lift it. She told her to follow him and not to run away, as she would fall down easily.
Siang Niang nodded obediently, and after taking two steps, she asked with concern: "Mom, is it heavy?"
“Aniang, are you tired?”
“A'niang, A'niang.”
Qin Yao was a little helpless, it turned out that she was a chatterbox.
She tried her best to answer every question patiently, "It's not heavy or tiring."
Erlang and Sanlang have already wiped away the dirt in the empty water tank. The three brothers are weak and usually only use buckets to fetch water. This water tank has not been used for a long time.
Qin Yao signaled Siniang, who was following behind her, to step back and pour the water from the bucket into the water tank.
A bucket of water and two clay pots were only about one-third full, and it took two trips to fill it up.
Looking back at the four Liu brothers and sisters standing in front of them, Qin Yao began to assign work.
"The house is too dirty. Erlang and Sanlang, you two take the brooms and clean the two rooms. Dalang and I will continue to fetch water and come back. By the way, we will boil another pot of hot water and wash them all back."
Dalang couldn't help but asked worriedly: "What should we do in that field?"
Other people have almost finished planting wheat, and their family has not started planting yet.
In Dalang's eyes, nothing matters except farming. The weather has been perfect these two days. If the season is missed, the wheat will not grow well.
Of course Qin Yao knows that farming is important, but the current situation is that the family doesn't even have wheat seeds, so what kind of seeds are there?
“There is no rush to farm, let's clean the house where we will sleep tonight.”
After saying that, he filled the iron pot on the stove with water, picked up the empty bucket and clay pot and motioned for Da Lang to follow, and walked towards the village.
Seeing that the second and third brothers were still stunned, Si Niang went to get a broom and started cleaning the house. You won't be wrong if you listen to my mother-in-law!
Liu Erlang couldn't understand what this stepmother was thinking. The house had been the same for so many years, so why did it have to be cleaned?
Saburo tugged on his brother's arm, "Second brother, if we disobey, will the stepmother beat us?"
The two brothers looked at each other and couldn't help but think of Qin Yao's fierce look when she took the knife with one hand. They both shuddered and immediately boiled water, swept the floor, and wiped the table.
By the time Qin Yao filled the water tank, the floor of the house had been swept clean by the three brothers and sisters who stayed at home, and the garbage swept out was thrown directly under the big tree behind the house.
A lame low table in the main room was also wiped clean, and the floor in front of the house was swept, leaving only the cobwebs high up that had not been removed due to height restrictions.
Qin Yao checked it over and was quite satisfied. Just as the water in the pot was boiling, he dug out a heavy old wooden basin under the bed, mixed the hot water, and called Siniang and Sanlang into the house to take a bath.
The sun is just right now, so you can wash up quickly to avoid catching a cold.
The twins' hair had not been washed for who knows how long. It was all tangled together. If she had scissors, Qin Yao would have cut it all off.
Unfortunately not.
Qin Yao helped Si Niang take off her clothes and let San Lang take off his clothes. Although the two were only four years old, they had not been cared about by their mother since they were young. They had long since learned to dress and wear their own shoes, and they could also help their brother to work in the fields.
Si Niang jumped into the basin happily, while San Lang covered his clothes and twisted.
Qin Yao was in a hurry, and the sun was not always hanging in the sky. Her tone was deep, "Sanlang, hurry up."
Hurrying, her hands kept moving, she pushed the baby into the water and just rubbed it. It looked very fierce, but she controlled the force so that Siniang didn't feel any pain at all.
But in Saburo's eyes, it was another terrifying scene.
There was a thick layer of mud on the child's body, and the water became muddy after just one wash. Qin Yao immediately ordered outside: "Da Lang, add some more water to the pot!"
He urged the little kid in front of him again: "Come in."
Saburo blushed, covered his key parts with his little hands, and stepped into the basin, looking like he was about to cry.
Qin Yao was helpless, "Why are you crying? I don't eat people."
Saburo: Woohoo, stepmother is so scary!
Qin Yao took his arm and started rubbing the mud. She was so hot that she was sweating. She just wanted to wash the two babies quickly. She didn't care about Sanlang's broken mood. She washed the two of them three times, five divided by two. Finished the first time.
The family was so poor that they didn't even have a towel, so Qin Yao could only let them continue to wear their dirty clothes, take the dirty water out and throw it out, quickly changed it to a basin of clean hot water, and washed it again before she was barely satisfied.
Although the clothes are still dirty, at least I don't have that weird smell anymore.
It was the turn of the two older ones. Qin Yao helped them get the tub and hot water and let them wash themselves.
Special reminder: "Rub the creaks and buttocks more often."
There is no need for paper in the toilet here, there is no paper, let alone paper.
People in the village mostly use leaves and sticks, which they can pick as needed. Those who are more thoughtful can split the bamboo into two-finger-wide pieces, polish the burrs a little, and break off one section at a time. One long piece can be used for five or six days.
With the Liu family's conditions, of course they couldn't use bamboo chips. She just helped the two little ones take a bath, and the scene was so sour and refreshing.
Dalang and Erlang's faces turned red, and they responded as quietly as a mosquito, and went into the house to take a bath.
Seeing that there was still some water in the water tank, Qin Yao filled the hot water in a wooden bucket and went into the house to wipe herself.
Although he couldn't take a shower, given the current conditions, Qin Yao was very satisfied with being able to wipe her face.
After wiping herself, Qin Yao took advantage of the sun and picked up a hatchet and went to the mountain behind the house to chop a few tree branches and come back to make a simple clothes drying rack. She took out the thickened bedding at home, knocked it, and dried it in the sun. Removes musty odors and moisture.
