Chapter 35

I stifled at the scene and stood completely frozen, the mermaids crowded together and their figures concealed beneath the cold-clear moonlight but little by little, under the dim glow, the contour of their shadows became more distinct.

My eyes widened in surprise. This group of female merfolk were just as beautiful as Lilith! Their seaweed-like hair hung loosely down on their snowy jade like shoulders and their bodies were rather well endowed and alluring. Their eyes reflected the glow of the water, making it even more bewitching when compared to a glittering clear gem. It would had been very difficult for any male to resist being surrounded by groups of beguiling female demons and I, was no exception because I was shocked stupid by their beauty and rooted to the spot.

The group of mermaids soon swam closer to me and when all their eyes centered on me, I felt immediate chills.

They were smiling;looking as if holding no malicious intention however their eyes told a different story. I was unable to describe what kind of look it was but if I had to lay it out, it would be as if they saw me as an ill patient lying on an operating table, on the verge of death or like, an sacrificial offering.

"Hey… you all…"

I shakily squeezed out those few words but in a split second, they all disappeared from the ocean surface without a trace. The next moment, my body turned weightless all of the sudden and I felt myself being raised up from the water by numerous pairs of fair hands beneath me. Supposing if this was on land, I would feel like an idol being carried by a bevy of beautiful ladies however with this situation I could only feel a sense of dread while my nerves were being held high in suspension. With a perception of foreboding in my heart, I realised what was going on and struggled. I had thought of calling out Agares for help but my mouth was sealed shut by webbed fingers. Now, both my arms and legs were firmly held in place and it was almost like I was a lamb waiting to be slaughtered!

God, what do they intend on doing?

I nearly suffocated from being too nervous and with much difficulty, I lifted up my head to take a look at the surroundings with wide eyes. The biting cold wind of the sea became my body's greatest fear as it attacked me all over, making me shiver intensely. Looking on helplessly, I caught sight of a small whirlpool forming on my right and in the heart of, a shadow could be seen floating upwards from the depth of the sea. Like a ghost, a head appeared out of nowhere in the midst of the waves.

At first I saw a big mop of dark silky hair spreading in the ripples of water, before a pale face could be seen penetrating through the surface. The silky hair parted as it came closer to me, revealing a pair of clear azure colored eyes which held radiance of eagerness and thirst in the tossing waves of the sea, I was taken aback and right then and there, making my jaw nearly dropped to the floor.

The reason for this was because this mermaid looked extremely similar to the dead Lilith! Aside from the hair, the face was exactly the same, like the work of heaven!

It was like I met Lilith's twin sister for a moment but with a thundering splash the entire first half of the mermaid's body was revealed from the water. I immediately realised that I was extremely wrong because this mermaid, even though she held the face of a seductress— she was a robust and sturdy merman!

I stared dumbfoundedly at that face while the red hair merman shrouded over me with his ever so close presence. He scanned my body from head to toe while leaning over to inhale my scent but, unlike Agares, he wasn't immediately handsy with my body. The mermaids treated him with the utmost care and caution, as though he was an honourable guest, while I was a cooked dish being offered respectfully to him and he was testing the flavour of the dishes placed before him.

Supposing if I had encountered this sort of situation before Agares, I would definitely think that this merman wanted to fill his stomach by eating me up. However, because of my unfortunate encounter with Agares prior to this, I knew that for sure what he was doing is testing if I fitted into his criteria. He was judging me, seeing if I suited his standards of being his spouse!

No, what is going on here?! In accordance with what's been happening, merfolks are really an eccentric race! The males don't choose to court their female counterparts, much less have offspring with them but instead, they look for human males to be their partner. Furthermore, they even were letting females to pose as sacrificial offerers! This was just too damn strange!

My brain was disoriented, feeling extremely overwhelmed and unwilling to believe it.  When I noticed the red haired merman's expression, my heart became even frantic to the point of it being stuck in my throat. The corners of his lips lifted up faintly, and when I firmly looked into his eyes, what could be called satisfaction was seen. I had no choice but to acknowledge that in comparison to Agares's lewd and devilish manner, this merman's expression seemed unusually reserved. However I knew that deep down it was a different story as I had clearly been observing his throat, it was moving up and down and his chest had been undulating violently with excitement. One of his webbed hands was then placed gently on my stomach, his head was also gradually lowering till he reached my chest before inhaling my scent.

Fuck!

I struggled strongly but my body wasn't able to move. If it weren't for the hand sealing my mouth, I would have been yelling curses. That's when I realize that I am one unlucky egg— it may be, because my constitution was special. Perhaps it's my scent, body shape or maybe my appearance that had some certain traits that made mermens develop an interest in me.

Good heavens, just where in my genes did it go wrong?!

But at this moment, I didn't had the time to dwell on this question.  When the red haired merman probed his hands under my clothing, he bowed his head near my neck and deeply inhaled my scent, my entire body let out a shudder and I could only uselessly move my head, the only place that was still mobile. Then, a voice roared in my mind.  Stunned, I became aware that I was hoping for Agares to come back and save me. The result would still be the same whether in Agares or this red hair meman's hand, yet I was still calling out for help intensely in my heart—

If I was capable of making sounds, I would already be calling out for Agares right then and there, but unfortunately, nothing could be made out other than muffled cries coming from my throat. I could only let myself be offered like a sacrifice to be enjoyed by the red haired merman as he pleased. I looked on helplessly as he tore open my clothes, and as I was incapable of any retaliation, I could only clench my fist. My nails dug into the flesh of my palm, letting the pain stimulate me from breaking down at this moment.

I swear that I have never had any nightmare more terrible than this present situation. The blue veins at the side of my neck tightened to the extreme;almost to the point of bursting open. I looked around at the sea, my eyes bloodshot. At this moment I seriously wished to see a black fish tail burst out from the water and appear right in front of me!

But there was nothing. The sea was so stagnant that not even a single wave could be seen. Agares had probably been swallowed up by that merfolk eating monster, deep inside it's stomach thus thoroughly vanishing. As my shirt had already been ripped open prior, right now the merman was using his webbed hands to caress my chest for a bit, before it quickly went down to to my trousers, unfastening them.

I painfully closed my eyes shut and gritted my teeth. My whole body had sunk into the pits of despair, giving up all hope but all of the sudden I heard loud rippling sounds of water in the rising waves, carrying along a piercingly cold wind. I opened up my eyes and instantly caught sight of a large shadow, speedily rising from beneath the water. With just one webbed claw, the red haired merman who was on my body was suddenly lifted up and thrown 10 meters away, creating an arch before falling head first into the sea,

The mermaids that were holding onto me made a loud frightened shrill sound and in an instant they had dispersed back into the sea, fleeing;disappearing without a trace. As I fell back into the water, my brain still couldn't catch up with what had just happened due to the fact I was still badly shaken up. I could only look back up to Agares in amazement. The moonlight was covered by Agares's shadowy figure so the only thing I could make out was his long silvery hair that was dangling into the sea, and like a metal scabbard, the moonlight shone along the edge of his hair, integrating together with the knife like black tail in the water to form a long sharp weapon that was splitting the moon and the surface of the water apart. However, currently he was heaving violently as though he was fuming with anger. His whole body gave out a thick murderous aura, full of evil intentions, but at the same time I smell a strong metallic scent of blood.

Agares was hurt… and his injuries weren't light. When he wrestled/fought with that enormous fish monster, there seemed to be no great advantage.

I swear I wasn't worried about him, but the professionalism of being a biologist made it a habit for me. Unconsciously narrowed my eyes to examine the condition of this beast's injuries and as though he sensed my thoughts, Agares stooped down his body. Water streamed down his drenched hair in front of me making my vision even blurred out. Through his mottled shadow, I sensed that his chin had drawn closer to my forehead. His webbed hands laid on my nape, manipulating my head to rest upon his chest.

"Hey buddy, where are you hurt?". The scent of blood hit me in the face, I couldn't bear it in and asked. He replied to me in a low voice that reverberated through his chest into my ears but before I was able to make out what he had said, a high pitched hissing/siren sound that I never heard before resonated in the distance.

Agares raised his head vigilantly, and made the same siren sound with a wide open mouth but his voice, was more heavy and low which sounded like a violin played with multiple stresses. Upon hearing this, I mistakenly thought it was thunder before a storm and made me feel extremely dizzy at the same time. This led me to wonder whether merfolk's' soundwave hold a frequency enabling them to produce a superior destructive force;so much that it could be used to attack the cranial nerves of its victim.

I immediately covered my ears and looked around. I found that the red haired Mermaid didn't escape. Instead, he used his tail to support himself. He stood upright in the water with his claws at his sides, not willing to leave matters ending like that. His attitude was like he was going to launch an attack at any given time seeming as if he had found out the condition of Agares's injury and was determined to win. His expression was somewhat haughty, his eyes held a fire, burning with a demonic glow as he stared towards my direction.

Agares let go of his hold on me and stood up, not in the least bit backing down without a fight. From beneath the water, his tail stirred a long path vertically upward before it broke through the surface forming a horizontal line right in front of me as though creating a barrier to separate me from the red haired merman.

I immediately took notice that this merman's tail was much shorter in comparison to Agares's extrodinary length, perhaps this had to do with a Mermaid's age. Agares was probably an outstanding senior merman. If saying that the merfolk population system was akin to lions', I would wholeheartedly believe that Agares may be the leader of the merfolk population. If supposing Agares was defeated, it would mean that he could be banished into exile and suffer miserably.

I think I might have OCD for me to think about this matter in such a tense situation right now but in fact my heart was threatening to jump out of my chest, because from the start, I wouldn't be able to stop the battle that was on the verge of breaking out between these two beasts!
