Chapter 5: The King of the fallen city of Tartarus

It has been a week since Aki and Kaida met in the city, since then they have been slaying Man-eater's and getting stronger. They finally decided to investigate a thick forest in the outskirts of the city.

"It's already been a week and we have seen nothing but Man-eaters. Honestly they are really getting annoying." Aki said with a sigh,"but at least they are easier to kill now. Probably because of all the blood Demon destroyer absorbed but I really do feel stronger now."

"I suspect that this world has been intergreted with some sort of power system. It allows us to get stronger with the more monsters we kill," Kaida commented," It's like we level up somehow."

While they emerged outside the forest, they saw a large wall and gate. It looked as if it is a barrier protecting whatever was inside or keeping whatever is inside from going outside. On the gate, the word, 'City of Tartarus,' was inscribed. Suddenly a mighty sound was heard and the ground started shaking.

"What's happening?" Aki asked.

"Look, the gate is opening," Kaida answered.

Inside the city was something the two would have never imagined. A real human city. Akio stood there in disbelief as he saw the people at the market.

"Yessssss!" He screamed in tears of joy," I thought we were alone in this world but there are actually people still alive."

Suddenly five well dressed men approached them and said,"Our King has humbly awaited for your arrival honoured guests. Please follow us for his Majesty humbly awaits us." They followed the men to the king's residence.

"It's almost too good to be true," kaida whispered to Aki," something is wrong about this place."

"Come on kaida,lighten up. We finally found out people are still around and are actually doing better than expected."

"All I'm saying is that we should not let our guard,"Kaida emphasised.

They finally reached the throne room and on the throne was a young blonde man with emerald eyes and a near perfect physique. He said,"Welcome honoured guests, I am the ruler of this city called Tartarus and go by the title,'The King of the fallen city.' We are truly honoured to be graced by your presence those honoured by heaven."

"Those honoured by heaven? Does he mean us candidate's," Aki thought to himself.

"You may stay here as long as you wish and anything you request will be granted without hesitation," The king continued.

Aki and Kaida both left the residence after the King's greeting and declaration.

Aki and Kaida stayed there for three days were they interacted with the local's. It was like heaven for the two, all they wished for in one place. On the fourth day is when things changed for the two. An official from the king approached them and declared,"Kaida has been ordered to give assistance to the town's people in ward 4 by the king."

"I guess I have no choice then," she replied to the official. Then she left immediately.

"You have been summoned by the King at his residence Akio Yamamoto," the official told him. They both left for the palace but only he entered the residence,there he saw the king on his throne.

"Tell me Akio, how do you feel about my people?" The king asked with a serious face as if it were a matter of life or death.

"I think they are truly wonderful and kind people who love there king," He replied.

"Hahahaha!" The king laughed uncontrollably."You humans are truly amusing. I have never seen a pitiful existence," the king said. His once beautiful glowing emerald eyes which brought warmth in the room were cold as ice now.

"What do you mean by you humans?" Akio asked?

"Oh I believe your kind call's us Man-eaters," The king replied.

"But how is that possible? You obviously look human." Akio asked.

"This is what happen's when a Man-eater devours those honoured by heaven but I believe you called yourselves candidates," The king replied, "We transcend that monster form and gain the ability to think just like you humans."

"And what about these people?" Akio asked while clenching his fist and grinding his teeth.

The king gave a devious grin and said, "These are all the candidate's I devoured and then revived to be my royal slaves. They are nothing more than a trophy."

The king started to laugh uncontrollably and said, "You were actually greeted by the corpses of your fallen brothers. I can't think of a more funny joke than that."

Akio drew Demon destroyer and pointed at the king. He felt the weight of his sword and the overwhelming power of his enemy but he knew he only had one choice and that's to fight. His once innocent golden eye's now glowed with vengeance.

"Before you die now, I need to ask you a question. Did humanity survive the great catastrophe?"

"I have nothing to say to a dead man," the king replied.

"So be it. Now prepare to die demon" Akio said.
