CLAWS 16 BETRAYAL 2

"what happened," she asked Luke who was now behind her still keeping her gaze on her father.

"he suddenly fell ill"

"what caused this ?"

"we are not sure, its still under investigation, the pack doctors have been working non-stop "

"well obviously it's not good enough" she countered as rage filled her, who had dared to poison her father?  that was what why she had felt uneasy. Guilt filled her she had been too caught up in the drama going on in her life to look after her father. 

Walking over she took her fathers hand in hers, holding back her tears, with a shaky voice she spoke to her father even if he couldn't hear her "I'll make sure you get on your feet as soon as possible, I'm so sorry dad. all the stress I have put you through must have worn you down."

The beta left the room giving her privacy.

Elijah could not concentrate on anything something was definitely wrong, the higher ranking officials of the pack has been in and out of the alphas building, plus the sharp pain the pack had felt had to mean something was wrong with the alpha. Although it was hard to believe as they knew how capable the alpha was.

It was not uncommon for him to be making his way to the pack clinic to see visit his sister as he mostly had time only at night to pay her a visit for many years now. The pack doctors had advised him and his mum to let her go, he'd rather die than do that. 

Just as the large building of the clinic came into sight he noticed Aliyah walk out with a look of horror on her face.

he ran up to her "hey, what's wrong?"

she walked on as one on a mission

"Aliyah, what's wrong? maybe I can help"

That got her attention "you? what a joke ". she turned to leave after taking several steps she paused. On second thought maybe he could help.

Elijah gave up. He started walking back before he heard her call.

"hey, Omega!"

he turned, she motioned to him with her fingers to come closer

"what do you know about the Ezra? like has there been any weird behavior lately on his part?"

"Yeah," he responded.  Her eyes lit up she knew it 

"like what?" she asked eagerly

" ehm... he has been overworking himself, drinking a lot in his free time, he has also stopped eating as much as he used to and quit attending any event that is not work related..."

"that's not what I'm asking you!" She interjected sharply

"then what are you asking? the man is broken"

Guilt tried to come up in her heart but she cast if off. What she saw this night has proven otherwise, she had gone to have a conversation with the doctor in charge knowing he would be in the clinic when she had seen someone wearing a lab coat near the lab.

 She felt suspicious of the person who seemed to be looking over his shoulders and acting tensed. No doctor would be that jittery. On following she peaked through the clear space on the door made of glass it was then she saw the person switching up the blood that had been drawn recently from her father to perform further tests on.

 She had wanted to barge in but stopped in her tracks as she noticed this was not just anybody but the Head warrior Ezra. Seeing he was coming out she ran into a dark corner hoping he had not noticed her.  He walked by, she released a breath she hadn't realized she was holding, sliding down the wall she sat on the floor trying to process what she had just seen. 

How could Ezra the person she had known all her life do this? why would he switch the samples? the only reason would be that he was behind what happened to her father.

 She held her hands together to stop them from shaking.  Ezra was the closest person to the family, he had been friends with her father since childhood, when her mother had died his wife had stepped in, filling the post as much as she could. Kate nursed her when her father had to work.

She had even breastfed her along with her own son Maxwell who was born around the same time. she loved to hang out at their house it was like a second home to her but as she got older she had stopped going cause she felt she should be able to stand on her own without a mother although she had remained friends with Maxwell. She did have small chats with Kate whenever she saw her and had always respected Ezra that did not change. 

She had tried to get in touch with Kate after Maxwell's kidnap but the lady locked her self in and refused to see anyone. Ezra had stated that he doesn't blame her for what happened so why was he doing what he was doing?.

Aliyah concluded she would not get anything from Elijah who she thought was too trusting of people and most likely would never betray his Chief. 

"you know what? forget I ever asked."

the next day...

Aliyah called for a meeting with the Beta and Gamma early the next morning in the alpha's office, she planned to exposed Ezra. her father's life was at stake. 

A few minutes later they arrived "you called saying it was something important Aliyah" Beta luke started as both men took a seat. 

"yes, I have an important finding to discuss, the only reason I did not link you last night was because I had to think things through and it all makes sense"

She took her time to explain what she had seen expecting the look of surprise on thier faces but instead they looked at her like she had gone mad.

"Aliyah," Gamma Kale started in a gentle voice as he was uncertain of her sanity. "Ezra has been in the neighboring pack since 2 days ago to ask for permission from the alpha for him to search for Maxwell on his land.

"And besides", Beta luke continued, "nobody besides the three of us and the doctors who are  constantly monitored  knows of the alpha being sick, we have not let the pack know as it would cause us to be in a vulnerable position for attack, especially when we haven't gotten to the root of his illness."

"he must have come back yesterday, poisoned the alpha and messed with the results " Aliyah countered.

"that's not possible Aliyah, I spoke with the Alpha of the pack today and he said  Ezra was still on his lands searching, I had to call him cause I could not reach Ezra."

"exactly! why couldn't you reach him?" she questioned her hands on her hip.

"Aliyah, Ezra walked in at the moment I was speaking with the alpha. I spoke with him we even had a video call cause I had to show him the state the alpha was in, he just found out by 4 a.m this morning. He is meant to be back in two days ."

 A knock on the door put the meeting to a halt.
