Summary
Jiang Li woke up in the small village of Aoli as the pampered and sheltered youngest daughter of the Jiang family, known for her delicate health. The girls life had been a series of unfortunate events: first, she was abandoned by her fiancé, then she impulsively married a previously married man and became a stepmother. This stepmother, however, turned out to be the unfortunate measure of another stepmother in her large household. She was the quintessential underdog among the minor characters in her world. But for Jiang Li, these challenges were trivial. She knew that her new husband was a successful scientist who had returned from abroad. He was dedicated to his work, earned a handsome salary, and was rarely at home. At a time when necessities were scarce, marrying him seemed like an excellent arrangement for her, who wanted nothing more than a simple, untroubled life. Jiangs mother was distraught... convinced that her daughter had lost her mind! Her brothers, along with their wives and children, were equally perplexed... they thought their sister had gone mad! However, everyone in the family except the patriarch, Captain Jiang, is deeply concerned about Jiang Li. They were afraid that the frail and precious family treasure wouldnt be able to cope with the hardships of being a stepmother and might end up harming herself under pressure. The villagers, aware of the Jiang family situation, gathered to gossip and speculate with envy and glee, especially those who harbored ill will and eagerly awaited the familys downfall. Contrary to their expectations, Jiang Li flourished in her marriage. She was adored by her husband, cherished by her stepchildren, who affectionately called her "Mother," and the center of attention for the family elders, who followed her every move. A certain puzzled leader mused: I had assumed my bound host to be of average stature, but she turned out to be a champion.
