Tragedy of Rain 21 Chapter 21: The black hall

She had been humming to herself for the better part of an hour until the strange man fell into the pit in front of her. She didn't like the interruption, she was enjoying the solitary confinement as it was the only time she had any privacy of her own. Rain leaned back, still wearing her combatants garb that was little more than a few straps of leather and linen. Zane told her it would allow her greater range of movement and definitely catch the notice of her target, and Maxine seemed rather eager to approve. Now that she thought of it Zane was especially excited to watch her fight. She would put a pin in that and consult with him later.

"And the plan was going so smoothly," she said to herself wondering if this random man would complicate things.

It took him a minute to catch his bearings and his breathe. He was in a lot of pain,

"By the gods you're the girl from the fight," He spoke using a Khollon accent which made it difficult to understand at first.

"Oh great another pious man, let me guess you bet on the big guy," she responded. He's spending way too much time looking at me. Why does everyone have a thing for the elf girl? She wondered.

"Wait a second...those ears?" He paused as if too stunned to say it, "Are you a knife ear?" That slang made her cringe her teeth.

"I'm the bitch that really doesn't appreciate being called that." Rain had spent the better part of the last two months not having anyone, even the people in her dreams, calling her that. It painfully reminded her of how much she hated her previous life.

"Sorry but I'm just surprised, you don't look like an elf is all," he seemed sincere but it was hard to tell.

"Whatever," Rain didn't like the way he was looking at her, struggling to keep his eyes focused on her face, "Those are some nasty cuts..." the skin of his arms were cut in neatly thin slices as blood had just started to coagulate. Pieces of wood were embedded, and several fingers were badly bruised or broken. Both his hands were shaking.

"Yeah...I can't believe this, my hands! Please i need to save my fingers...I need them." He used two of the fingers on his left hand that weren't broken to pull out a thin wooden shard from his forearm. The pain made him collapse onto his side.

Rain watched him as he shook on the floor. Do I really have to waste my time with this? She wondered. Then again seeing him writhe on the floor gave her bad memories, ones she didn't want to relive.

The ceiling was built to make humans uncomfortable, it was not tall enough for the average person to stand up straight in. That didn't bother her, she walked over to him and sat beside him, "Sit still, your mopping like an infant, seriously bite down on something and just try to relax"

She carefully touched his hand. He was lucky the fingers that were broken weren't cracked...merely dislocated. She cupped the three fingers on his right hand gently and with a sudden tension jerked them back into place. His eyes shot in the back of his head and fainted instantly.

"Wow...are all humans like this, I guess mother gave me the good genes." She was glad that he was at least quite as she did the same to his other hand. She retrieved most of the splinters from his flesh, and then let him lay there next to the wall. He remained passed out for several hours, during that time she was able to catch some sleep.

When she awoke it was to his own contemplations. Her dreams had been a mix of shadows and voices that told her the father was after her again. Ever since surviving the events of Coppermill she had changed, learning how to tap the magic inherited from her mother to seize control of the vellum, the curse mark given by the father of the cult. But still he haunted her mind, ever seeking to convert and dominate her.

"One more ounce, just one more...maybe a few more bolts...or maybe a single gram less powder?" The other captor was muttering to himself frantically. He had wrapped his hands in layers of torn linen wool from his shirt.

"Please dont tell me you're losing your mind?" Rain sighed. It had gotten warm in their cramped prison, the heat from the torches didn't bother her even as her hair was matted against her skin and sweat had accumulated down her brow. The human wasn't doing as well, he was pouring in sweat and his eyes locked to the ceiling waiting for the wardens to return.

"Do you have any idea what they'll do to us...wait?" He focused his attention back to her, "Why are you even here?"

Rain could tell him it was all part of a plan, but she wasn't even remotely willing to do so, "Apparently I'm to become a concubine, and my objection was duly noted," it wasn't a complete lie, she had fought in the fighting pit to get noticed. The problem is that she was hoping to get noticed to be hired as a personal guard, instead her body was all that anyone noticed.

She guessed it couldn't be helped, and it still served the same purpose anyway. It wasn't like she was going to let them actually make her a concubine.

The human seemed to understand her plight. "I thought you were injured," he pointed with bruised fingers to her shoulder.

He was right she had dislocated it during the fight. But she was a fast healer, ever since she had learned how to control her magic she had been one.

"Nothing a little rest can't cure," she lied badly. The lid to their cell opened and light poured through mixing with the flame to fill the cell with an eerie white yellow glow. A rope descended to them, followed by a voice, "Knife ear," she couldn't help but cringe her teeth again, "Present yourself! Don't make me come down there."

She smiled as she stood. And she couldn't help but notice how the young man was fixated on her. She grabbed the rope with her right arm, and wrapped her feet around it. It took two guards to tug the rope, lifting her out of the cramped confines. She hated how they grabbed her to pull her completely out, how they wanted to touch her. Once out they put a chain collar around her neck and pulled her to a hallway which led to another large room in the black hall.

"Another one to be prepared for Erebus, make her presentable." The guard said in a steely tone to another man just inside the room. He was a warrior that looked more like a mercenary. He looked at her with mild interest. Rain couldn't help but find him attractive, he was tall with sinewy muscles and broad shoulders but his facial structure was not fully human. His hair was scarlet, and his eyes dark brown...his face slightly narrow and he just seemed somehow relatable. Could he have some elf blood in his veins, she wondered?

"Of course, I'll handle everything from here..." he took her chain and pulled her inside. As soon as the doors closed her took the chain collar off, she rubbed her skin.

"Zane mentioned you were reliable," she spoke as she followed him to an adjacent room. It afforded all the luxury you could get from an old and broken down keep. A bed with some quilted sheets, a small bath with hot water, and a collection of fine glass and pallets of fruit all neatly placed to make it seem more decorative than it actually was. An open skull sat on the table next to the wine glasses.

"Did he now?" He paused, "can't say he was right." He gave her a guarded glance. Rain suddenly felt like she had made a mistake in trusting Zane's plan.

"Are you saying you aren't reliable?" She felt his eyes wonder across her flesh, he wasn't just studying the white markings.

"I'm saying reliability comes at a cost..." He approached calmly as if in complete control. She couldn't fault him for that for he was in control. His value to important to simply ignore or eliminate. He got right up against her. He smelled of lilac. He put his hand around her back and untied the straps, and proceeded to strip her of her clothes.

She looked at him, his desire for her was insurmountable. Rain instinctively tried to cover herself which angered him. Pinning her arms above her head he grabbed her breast and squeezed, making her feel a sharp pain.

"Let me go!" She demanded as she tried pushing him back.

"Not until I get what I'm due," He was stronger than her, and grabbed her shoulders to push her down to her knees, "Do you know what Erebus does to thieves and traitors...it can get rather messy. So if I'm to help you, I'm taking a lot of risk..."

Rain looked up at him outraged, a part of her knew this was possible. That didn't mean she had to go along with it, "Let me repay the kindness another way." She knew he didn't like that.

"I think this will suite me just fine, your smaller than I would like. But I'm sure you'll make up for that in tightness." He forced her to the ground as he knelt above her spreading her legs.

"Wait," damn you Zane, her mind screamed, "Don't you want to really savor this?" If she was going to get the upper hand she would have to buy time, or maybe even distract him. Perhaps she could use his own desire against him. Then again she could burn him alive...no she needed him alive.

She looked at him reluctantly deciding to play along, at least to see if she could take control. She perched her head up and spoke in his ear as seductively as she could, letting her arms reach around and pull his hairy chest against her soft mounds, "I haven't been with a man as big as you...i need to get wet first, and I want you to be much harder." She winked at him and he blushed.

"You really are crazy...I like that." He lifted himself off her, and she let him carry her to the wool sheets where she kissed him, letting her tongue wrap around his. She just needed to buy time. But she would be lying to herself if she denied that the way he held her and kissed her didn't feel good. A part of her wondered if it would be such a bad thing to let this happen? Even though it felt wrong in so many ways.

The more their lips were locked together the more she felt a surge of adrenaline in her heart. His hand explored her, going further down until it reached her tenderness and she felt a jolt of electricity surge as his fingers entered and pleasured her. Her mind started going blank, maybe she was crazy...maybe she wanted this man to take her virginity? The idea of his manhood piercing her brought her back to reality as it rested against her abdomen, its heat burning against her skin.

Rain tried to focus her mind as she already felt close to climax, his fingers were slick with her juices. Her panting made it difficult to speak as she fought the urge to continue. She needed time, by the gods she didn't want to lose her virginity like this...or did she?

"How about some wine?" She spoke through exhausted panting which pleased him. His animal instincts were just barely in check, "It'll make you last longer..." she actually wasn't sure if that was true, but she needed him to stop before she lost herself to her own desires.

"Trust me I can last long enough to make you never want anyone else," Just saying that made her want to laugh, as if she would ever really want him? Then again she hadn't incinerated him yet, even with his desire growing by the second.

"You can pour it on me? Or better yet pour it on your rod? It'll taste delicious." She didn't know where she came up with that. By the gods maybe she was a little too into this.

"Are you really calling it a rod?" He jested as he rubbed it against her skin. It was getting dangerously close to the spot between her legs.

"What am I supposed to call it exactly?" As she said the words she felt his fingers delve into her again. Her eyes rolled in the back of her head as she gave a small scream, endorphins flooded her brain as wave after wave of pleasure forced her to climax.

She couldn't help it, this man knew what he was doing. And he enjoyed watching her climax, her face captured the pleasure she felt perfectly. She expected him to take her virginity right then, but he didn't. Instead he held her gently as she felt her heart slow down, her breathing rebalancing from the euphoria. She felt good being taken care of like this while her body reset.

He smiled at that, his eyes lighting up with devilish interest. But he didn't pull away from her, instead his manhood seemed to pulse against her. He was larger than she expected.

"I know you have magic, I'm surprised you haven't used it on me yet." He positioned himself in between her legs. She looked up at him in fascination.

"Im surprised you haven't taken me yet." And with that she was lost. Her desires were explosive, and she no longer cared about saving time or finding a way out. She wanted him, however wrong or right that was. She felt him as he started to lean over her. It was touching her, only one thrust away from taking her virginity once and for all.

A bang hit the door, followed by an outcry, "Severin! Is the thrall prepared. Erebus is getting impatient and demands her immediately."

Cursing the man who was one heartbeat away from claiming her looked up, "she hasn't finished her bath, it'll only take a moment."

"Now Severin! The master will be sure to bathe with her after he's claimed her." The banging intensified.

Rain watched as a mixture of emotions, rage and frustration mostly, clouded his face. He resisted his desire just barely. He grunted with disapproval as he stood up, his full muscular presented to her, and left the bed.

"One day I'm going to carve out that mans throat." He declared to himself as he pulled a sultry garb from a cabinet and threw it at her. It was red and thin, far too revealing than even the wraps she wore before, "put it on quickly and leave."

"Why don't you do it already? Carve out his throat? Maybe then I can really get to enjoy you." She teased him actually wishing for it.

He looked at her still tempted to face the wrath of his master to enjoy his time with her. "Maybe, Just Maybe I will..." He watched her as she put on the lingerie and wrapped the satin rope around her waist to keep it all together.

"I'll be waiting for you," she gave him a last wink, "You know what you must do to have me" She knew he understood and even did something she did not expect. He gave her a bow in agreement.

"I won't let him have you, that I promise" his words cut through the air, and she believed him. As she turned to walk away she couldn't help but feel both relief and a little ashamed. The fact she was so willing to enjoy being taken control of like that...it frightened her. She left him in the room, hoping that she had gained a temporary ally at least. It wasn't the way the plan was supposed to go, but it will do.

Her bare feet felt the cold stone floor and sent shivers down her spine. The door opened and she left the mercenary angry and yearning for her.

The guard that banged on the door received her. He was tall and fully armored making it hard to see his face through his helmet. Not wishing to waste time he held her by grasping her shoulder and led her down the hall to her intended room. The hallway was cold and had few guards. None dared look at her in fear they would be caught by lord Erebus.

In front of the door the guard grunted, "Did he agree?" Zane's voice surprised her.

"He didn't reveal who I was, if that's what your asking," She was angry at him for so many reasons.

"I guess that will do for now, there's been one small problem in the plan little diva." He knew he didn't have much time to explain, "Erebus is preoccupied, I'm to present you to someone else?"

This wasn't good. The plan was to catch Erebus off guard, one of them needed to get close to him for that. Maxine had infiltrated the servants quarters, and apparently Zane managed to get the guard post she was supposed to earn.

"Lots of improvising so far," she mocked him as he placed his hand in the door.

"We can always just try to take the castle by force," the idea was talked about in depth before, and those discussions always ended the same...too much bloodshed.

"If I have to deal with Severin again I might have to resort to it." The feeling of him pressed against her made her stomach tighten.

"Just say the word little diva," she could tell he was winking at her even under the helmet.

"One way or another we take this castle tonight." She watched him open the door and she walked through.

"Agreed," he whispered to her so that none could hear.

As she entered the room she was surprised to find a much younger man. He was tall, but again all humans were tall to her. He was no older than she, with crisp blonde hair and green eyes. He had almond skin and was handsome. He looked like a foreign noble, but he didn't present himself that way, he looked like he hadn't slept in days.

He noticed her as she entered, "Let me guess," he said trying to sound intimidating, "your another concubine sent by my father." He seemed more frustrated than sexually excited, "Well you can tell him I don't want anymore of his favors." He brushed her away.

"Excuse me?" Rain cocked her head. Flat our rejection was new to her.

"I said I'm tired of his favors!" He sized her up, "I mean look at you, he actually thinks he could replace the love of my life with you! Or anyone for that matter?" He sat down and placed his head in his hands.

"I'm was actually supposed to see the lord, but I guess there's been a mistake?" She noticed several empty jars in the room, he had been drinking heavily for some time.

"No there hasn't been, he was going to claim you but he changed his mind. He wanted my Jessica, she just happened to pass him coming to my chamber. He always wanted her, I guess to make up for it he sends the cheap substitute for me." He laughed to himself, "I guess that's what it's come to, his madness knows no bounds."

Rain studied the room, watching him sulk. Why must humans be either so brutish or so weak? "If she was your mate, you should have defended her. Or better yet you should be barging into his chambers right now to rescue her."

"Rescue her! From him! Are you mad!" He stood up, his anger turning to rage.

Rain stood her ground feeling his anger weep into the room. She paused for a moment before walking to the window to look outside. The sun was still painful but she had gotten so used to it so that she was able to sustain it for longer periods. Still she preferred the night.

"I came here to kill him..." she said it so casually, "But I think my plan has failed."

She wasn't sure how he would take this. If he would immediately move to arrest her, or try to kill her, whatever good that would do. So now was the time to take a chance. With the plan so drastically changed there was no other choice. It was just that simple. The young man looked at her, his body posture told her enough.

"I could use your help, that is if you want to save your woman." Rain continued. As she spoke he stood up and put his hand on his chin, his eyes darted from side to side.

"You know he's my father..." he said the words slowly and suddenly became much more aware of her every movement.

It occurred to her that maybe she wasn't good at improvising after all, "Yep". The slang was more common in the alienage and she always enjoyed how others handled it.

He sighed, "He's my adopted father actually...what do you need exactly?"

"Some clothes would be nice," as she said it his eyes immediately explored her body as if on instinct. She could tell that despite his supposed love, he couldn't deny he was attracted to her.

"By the gods I apologize," he rubbed his eyes and steadied himself. "Just wait there a moment and let me get something."

She waited patiently, her arms crossed, until he found something to present to her. For the first time all day she felt relieved to actually wear something more comfortable.

"Ok that's a start," she happily accepted the rough spun tunic with the corset. She noticed he hadn't left the room. To his credit he wasn't watching her, instead he seemed alarmed with something going on outside.

"Do you mind?" She asked him. Catching his attention he seemed embarrassed.

"Sorry I'll leave you alone, I didn't mean to be rude." He started walking to the door only to pause for a moment, "Go up three floors, you will find a pair of guards in front of a door. That is for show, his actual chamber is at the furthest end of the corridor, I think he thinks he's clever by switching the guards around. It also lets him have more privacy."

She nodded in understanding as he opened the door to walk out. He didn't need to say anything more, he didn't have to. Rain removed the garb and threw it on the floor. The tunic was not of good quality and she proceeded to alter it. After putting on the corset, which was an interesting touch, she put on the skirt and looked herself over in the mirror. She couldn't wait to get back her vest and wear actual pants again.

"I guess it'll do," she stammered to herself. She cast a ball of white flame in her hand and watched it shimmer for a minute, it helped her clear her mind. When she clenched her fist the flame dissolved and she began the next step of her improvised plan.
