Take it or leave it

"Nonsense,"

Mrs. Witlock couldn't contain her reaction at the dinner table. The impulse to throw all the food and plates onto the floor surged within her, However she needed to restrained herself in the presence of her husband.

In all of this midst of turmoil, Rose endeavoured to aid her brother, attempting to pacify her mother and urging for a resolution in a more harmonious manner.

"I humbly request to let Keylup speak his heart out, mother"

"Have both my children lost their minds, or am I delusional?" Mrs. Witlock seethed with fury, making her hate Juli even more than ever. Her own children going against for a commoner.

The dinner was turning into a battlefield, Kelyup father, had intervened, to remind everyone their place at the dining table. He cast a stern, disapproving gaze at Keylup, Rose and his wife making them quite.

"Must I remind you, son, that there is a line that must never be crossed? Nobles marry nobles, and most marriages are unions of convenience, solely for the purpose of consolidating wealth and power for both families."

Rose and Keylup listened in silence as their father spoke, their heads slightly tilted toward their chests, absorbing his words with a mixture of contemplation and submission.

"That is the very reason why Rose's engagement has been arranged with the Duke of Wismar. In pursuit of greater affluence for the family and an elevated standing among the aristocracy."

"Now, explain me, what can Ms. Juli Hahn contribute to our family?"

"Father, can't my love for Juli be a genuine reason enough to marry her?"

"I am afraid, that is not enough son."

It was Keylup's first and only chance to convince his parents, a now-or-never moment. Steeling himself for the task ahead, he clenched his fists, fully aware of the daunting challenge of convincing his family. Nevertheless, he remained determined, unwavering in his resolve to never give up trying.

"If you still need more reasons, let me give you a glimpse about her."

"Juli may not come from a noble family, but she possesses a rich heart, one that can accommodate all of us. She will bring happiness into our life. She's a person who believes in peaceful living, and she'll do everything to maintain harmony in our family."

"She doesn't have extravagant tastes, but she embodies the values that will hold our family in high regard in society. What's more, she aspires to become a naturopathic doctor, treating commoners who can't afford expensive medical care. By marrying me, she will bring honor to our family among the common folk."

He spoke confidently, describing Juli in perfect manner, like singing a song by a skilled singer.

"And, Father, don't you think a happy and motivated man can climb the ladder of success even faster?"

Everyone in the room witnessed the depth of Keylup's determination to be with Juli.

Even after that, his parents, still could not understand his feelings. Mrs. Witlock shared her reservations, underscoring the potential challenges perceived in Juli's suitability for their noble household.

"Her lack of noble upbringing is apparent. Growing up without a mother, how can she manage the demands of aristocratic responsibilities? What would be the repercussions for our family's standing in society if Keylup proceeds with marrying her?"

Rose was eager to lend her support to her brother, having witnessed the depth of Keylup's affection for Juli since the very beginning. She had observed his unwavering devotion from the moment he first set eyes on her, and now she was determined to do whatever it took to assist him in his pursuit of happiness.

"Mother, She'll learn what motherly love through you, which she did not get to experience before. As for her presentation in noble society, you can guide her. She's a quick learner, and I'm sure she'll adapt in no time. I can vouch for her. She's very beautiful with her golden hair, and brother Keylup is so handsome. Just imagine how beautiful their children would be." Rose spoke with excitement, vividly describing the potential future.

Keylup's cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

Witnessing the unwavering defense put forth by both their children in favor of Juli, Mr. and Mrs. Witlock found themselves compelled to yield.

However, they had conditions for their consent: Keylup needed to wait until he was 19 years old before asking for Juli's hand in marriage (Keylup is one year older than Juli). Additionally, if Juli Hahn managed to avoid any scandal during this time, they would happily welcome her into their family.

After the deep and positive conversation with his parents, Keylup returned to his room, lying on his bed, he couldn't stop blushing as he thought about Juli and their impending marriage.

And his imagination got distrupt by Rose entered the room without knocking, glancing at Keylup with a playful grin.

"You owe me big time, brother."

"Don't you knock?"

"I think i have earned it, to enter your room without knock."

"Next time, knock the door and thank you, my dear sister."

Rose felt an immense sense of pride in being a good sister.

But behind the closed doors, matter didn't unfold as Keylup and Rose had anticipated. In their private chamber, Mr. and Mrs. Witlock were discussing Juli.

Alexandra remained opposed to the idea.

"Are you truly considering welcoming her into our family?"

Henry was reclining on the couch and smoking a cigar, "This is the first time Keylup has acted like a true merchant, trading information for his own benefit. We still have time. Let's not dwell on this any longer," he added, putting an end to the discussion about Keylup's marriage.

But there was no stopping Alexandra. She had already begun delving into a vicious plan. If no one is ready to hear her, she will take matters into her hand.
