Records Of Barton's Fantastical Events Chapter 53

Chapter 53: Chapter 19 Cheque

Benjamin's truck felt like it was going upstream. The luxury cars that drove from the Barton Western District were all driving along the Charles River towards the Northern District. Only Benjamin was heading west. This time, the two were not looking for Mrs. Quinn, but Mrs. Barton.

“Are you dissatisfied with this result?” Benjamin held the steering wheel with one hand and put the other hand on the window of the car that was rolled down. The influx of wind eased his fatigue a little.

“Of course not.” Zach shook his head, “Actually, I'm glad you asked me to do this.”

The method of dealing with Kyle, the same as the previous method of dealing with Pooky, came from Benjamin. When the two went shopping with Lola, they were already arguing about whether to let Kyle continue to live.

“Then why are you looking reluctant.” Benjamin turned his head.

“I just feel pity. After all Mrs. Barton is very generous. But this result is not satisfactory, which means that we have lost a lot of Dors.” Zach pouted his lips, easing Benjamin's doubts with a joke.

About our vampire Zach, there are some things that you must understand. If Louise had not shown extraordinary alertness, which aroused Zach's curiosity, she would have disappeared from this world; if it hadn't been for Benjamin to stop Zach, James would have become a dead body in the woods on the border of Barton South. If it weren't for Benjamin to persuade Zach to use Jim to disrupt Pooky's mind, Pooky would no longer be in this world; if it wasn't for Alice who needed someone to protect her, Zach would not have given Jim his blood; if it wasn't for Old Hank to stop Zach, the hunter who used flames last night would've gone into hell in the process of unceasing blood loss and healing; if there were no Benjamin to dispel Zach's idea of replacing Kyle with Jim, the new “Kyle” would've become someone with bulimia…

It all started when Anthony said to the vampire, ‘try it, live like a human in Barton!'

What he meant was to live in isolation in the Barton Southern District where the Grande Funeral Home was based while getting the salary from the city government. However, we all know that this kind of life has already gone forever. So, the vampire Zach was groping for a new way to survive. Thanks to those names that appear after the ‘if', Zach has not returned to the state of life before meeting Anthony. What state? You ask. Please delete the short sentence after ‘if'.

Those who have an illusion about vampires, please think carefully.

Barton's manor is more luxurious than that of Quinn's, Zach and Benjamin were taken to the atrium living room where Mrs. Barton was, or it is more appropriate to call it a pavilion. The intricate and gorgeous Roman-style carvings are much more refined than the miscellaneous items in Anthony's office, but the transparent ceiling and plenty of light make Zach very groggy!

The large pillars and patterned window surfaces all represent that this is indoor. For etiquette, Zach must take off his coat and accessories (sunglasses, hat). The helpless vampire could only ask Mrs. Barton's maid to prepare extra strong coffee for him to stay awake.

“When Kyle came back yesterday, his face looked very bad.” Seeing Zach looked like he was having a caffeine addiction, Mrs. Barton didn't care: “Have you resolved it?”

It was Zach who engaged in the conversation. He put down the cup reluctantly and said, “You could say that.”

Mrs. Barton's fingers, which were fiddling with the teacup earlier, stopped, and her eyelids half-covered, “Don't play word games with me, I am not Quinn, I am not interested in talking with riddles.”

Zach frowned and glanced at Benjamin. With an affirmative sign, he stood up and straightened out the somewhat wrinkled clothes: “Mrs. Barton, we have resolved the things that bothered Kyle. But the problem doesn't come from this matter, but from Kyle's heart. If Mrs. Barton's family does not take any measures, such things will happen again.”

Mrs. Barton's half-covered eyelids opened completely, and she looked at Zach who was standing, “It will happen again? Saying it in such a solemn manner, you are telling me that if there is a second time, Grande Funeral Home will no longer accept my request?”

“Yes.” Zach bowed and said, “You can think it that way.”

Mrs. Barton looked down at the celadon tea cup at the table. There were a few more wrinkles on her original wrinkled forehead.

“Now, I have changed my mind, I want to know the process. What did Kyle see?” Mrs. Barton's eyes returned to Zach's face again. She paused for a second before she carried on again, “Or, what did Kyle do.”

Zach shook his head, “We have completed Mrs. Barton's request, so Kyle did not see or do anything. If madam wants to know more, I suggest that madam can check Kyle's belongings to find out what Kyle is thinking.” Zach looked directly into Mrs. Barton's eyes: “This is Barton's family business, and it's not something we ‘Grande' should touch.”

A strange look flashed in Mrs. Barton's eyes. After a while, she hummed and waved to her side. The middle-aged man who looked like a housekeeper passed a checkbook. The sound of the metal nib rubbing against the paper sounded. Mrs. Barton tore off the check and asked the housekeeper to hand it to Zach who was still standing.

Looking at the number on the check, Zach decided to take back what he said to Benjamin before – ‘they have lost a lot of Dor'.

“You have done a good job.” Mrs. Barton stood up with the support of the caregiver, “I accept your suggestion. You can leave now.”

Zach and Benjamin, led by the maid, left the same way they came in. But the journey was not short. The marble reliefs, the smoothly polished cobblestone corridors, the potted plants that were carefully trimmed into various shapes, famous paintings from a few centuries ago…

This was the home of the founder of Barton, the home of the old woman who gave out a half a million cheque. Zach was more cautious in his words and deeds here compared to when he was with Mrs. Quinn, and now it seemed that he had achieved the best results.

Zach returned to the van and smiled and handed the cheque to Benjamin: “I need to thank you again.”

Benjamin raised his eyebrows slightly, and he gladly accepted the credit. But then, when he saw the amount on the cheque, he frowned and handed it back, “Too much, we can't just go and exchange it.”

Alas, what a realistic thought. A werewolf can think like a human better than a vampire.

Zach was distracted and thought to himself when Benjamin started the truck, yes, too much, and the cheque of two hundred thousand given by Mrs. Quiin, which was placed in the drawer, is also too much. How should such unexplained income be explained?

“Maybe, we can make it look like Mrs. Barton reserved a high-standard grave. What do you think? “Zach asked Benjamin, who had already started shifting gears.

“I guess this is the only way.” Benjamin shrugged, and the truck drove away from Barton Manor.

At this time, in the Barton Southern District, in the half-renovated ‘Mill', Madison looked at the mirror and frowned, his hair began to change color again! As always, this ‘ordinary human', uh, me, doesn't know whether the change in the future is good or bad.
