Records Of Barton's Fantastical Events Chapter 42

Chapter 42: Chapter 8 Hunter

After midnight, the sound of friction between the metal and the ground sounded, and the manhole cover of the sewer was pushed away!

James's hand was already on the holster on his waist. He leaned back, sliding down against the back of the seat. While hiding, he patted the sleepy Coulson, and then pointed to the manhole, signalling that someone had just come out of the sewer.

Coulson lowered his body alertly, staring at the man who suddenly got out of the ground. The person's whole body was wrapped in a worn trench coat, and with this appearance, Coulson's hand also pressed on the holster.

The person that appeared on the street lowered his head and quickly walked to the alleyway between the buildings. Coulson was excited. They were about to catch the man on the spot!

“Stop!” James pushed open the door without warning, a beam of light shot from James's left fist, the gun in his right hand was placed on his left wrist!

“Just there! Don't move!” James's shoulders were leaning against the door, and his entire body protruded from the car, keeping the shooting posture while moving close to the ‘person' that had stopped.

“Rance! What are you doing!” Detective Coulson suppressed his anger! What is James thinking! Now the other party is just a suspicious guy! Even if he is really a criminal, now they have no evidence to arrest him!

But Coulson still cooperated with his partner. He pushed open the car's door and quickly walked to the other side of James, blocking the other party's route from the sewer. His gun had been pulled out, with the help of the flashlight in the hand of James, he aimed at the man who was back to them, motionless.

“Rance!” Coulson lowered his voice, he was both angry and puzzled, obviously not understanding why his partner rushed out so early.

James ignored Curson's dissatisfaction. Catch the man on the spot? James didn't think that he and Coulson had enough mental endurance to witness a feeding scene of a bottom-level creature!

“Turn around! Let me see your face!” James kept his posture, trying to calm his voice. The son of General Rance was nervous. Why? Because James had already had a ‘fight' with nonhumans. At one moment, it was still a passerby seeking help and hitchhiking on the side of the road, but at the next moment, it became a wild beast with a bloody mouth! The reason why this ‘beast' did not take away James's life was that it did not like bones!

James didn't want to pin his hopes on every nonhumans he encountered to have the same quirk as Jim, he pinned his hopes on the gun in his hand!

“Do what I said! Otherwise I will shoot!” James ordered the motionless man again, threatened.

“It's him! It's him! It's him!”

This sudden panic voice! It was that homeless man!

The homeless man's dirty face protruded from the dark alley, excited… As I said, this is a guy with mental problems! The homeless man pointed at the guy in the trench coat and yelled, “It's him! He wears the same trench coat! You see! The blood stains! Doug's blood!”

Although Coulson didn't like the mentally-ill homeless man, and his words most likely could not be used as evidence, he saw the mottled black mark on the trench coat! This is the concrete evidence! Coulson was relieved. It seemed like his partner noticed this!

This is a beautiful misunderstanding.

“Do what he said!” Coulson adopted a tougher tone, “Extend your hand and turn around!” The two detectives exchanged glances while approaching the criminal, “I will count three! One, Two,Three…”

Red. Even under the dim light, James could still see the red gleams in the person's eyes drawing two red lines in the air as he suddenly turned his body under the night sky.

“What the fu-” Before Coulson could finish, he was interrupted by Jmae!

“Don't look at his eyes!”

The beam of the flashlight held by James shook and he instantly became very nervous. Red eyes! The only thing he knew with red eyes was the hypnotizing eyes of the vampire! He didn't know if the red eye he saw was the same thing. He lowered his head and tightened his finger on the trigger!

Gunshots rang in the streets at midnight! James fired the gun. However, the action driven by instinctive fear did not work!

The rancid smell pounced on James! In the general's son's low line of sight, a shadowy figure was rushing towards him!

The buzzing air burst sounded, and the electromagnetic burst suddenly came from Detective Coulson who didn't know what happened! Coulson's eyes rolled up in convulsions! His body was like a boneless monkey, collapsed on the ground softly. Coulson was attacked from behind!

“What were you doing! Aim at knees!”

The roar came from nowhere, pulling James out of fear!

Knees!

James's arm moved down quickly, pulled his finger, and the bright red spark burst from the muzzle! In James's sight, the person who rushed to him lost his balance in a gunshot, and fell toward him with the blood-stained trench coat and rancid smell!

“Step aside! Buddy!” James' shoulder was suddenly pushed sharply aside. Failing to react in time, James only saw a pair of brown pointed leather boots while losing his balance quickly.

The ‘man' who fell to the ground, was wriggling on the ground. His left leg, which had been blasted to pieces by James, was strangely trailing behind him. His body was propped up under his trench coat, and then a dry, hoarse scream appeared from a bloody mouth that extended to the both sides of his ears.

The stranger who appeared out of nowhere opened the brown leather coat, took a square silver alcohol bottle from his waist, unscrewed the bottle, and spilled it onto the creature on the ground!

The steaming white mist immediately wrapped the creature, and the sound like a blistering hot red iron being thrown into cold water filled the silent street!

The stranger turned and looked at the stunned James. The sturdy outline and the Bolottie on the neckline showed that this was a federal indigenous people — Inan: “I'm sorry buddy! When you wake up, your head will hurt!”

The blue light on the stun gun in the hands of the stranger flashed in front of James' eyes. James felt a tingling in his shoulder, and then there was spasm all over his body! A moment later, James lost consciousness.

When James woke up, it was already the next morning and he and Coulson were in their car. James endured the headache that felt like his head was about to explode, and pulled out his gun. The disappearing bullet proved that what happened last night was not a dream!

A moment later, the phone of Zach's office in Grande Funeral Home rang, and Zach smiled, sent away another guest who came to make an appointment and then picked up the phone.

“James!” Zach said with joy: “I haven't heard your voice in a few days, is everything going well?”

“No!” James on the phone seemed unhappy, and was not interested in having a chit-chat with Zach: “We need to talk!”

“What's wrong, Detective Rance, are you in trouble?” Zach looked at the office door that was pushed open, Alice looked at the vampire with an anxious face.

Zach signaled to Alice to go out first and held the microphone: “I don't have time at the moment. If you have encountered something that you can't solve, you can ask Anthony.”

“Humph!” James on the phone snorted: “No need to trouble the mayor! I just want to remind you that a hunter just appeared in Barton City!”

Hearing the hang-up noise from the receiver, Zach frowned and hung up the phone. The vampire had already thought that the creatures that would come to Barton city because of rumors would not only be nonhumans, but also the hunters who kill nonhumans!
